Sweet, Thanks all for the advice! :) I restarted a new character and stayed more goal focused and now I'm a few hours in and having a blast :)

If you find other things you don't like, just check Fallout3Nexus.com for the mods needed.

The original poster's complaint is a bit ridiculous. "I killed all of the people in the first quest hub and now there is nothing to do!"

I recently got fallout 3 for the 360. At first everything was fine up until you get to the first town. I had no idea what to do/where to go and whenever I went to where the marker was it lead me to a dead-end subway station. I gave up and walked back to buy some more ammo. I was testing to see if I had any amo in any of my guns and I shot the store lady thus making everyone pissed at me. I fended them off for a good while then left the place i was using as my fort. I explored around a bit and now this is where I stand:

I have no money, no ammo, no indication of where to go, bored with repetitive environments, everyones dead and the people who arnt dead hate me.

I am frankly dissapointed because I was looking for a really solid, entertaining RPG that wasnt as text loving as ME1(or 2) or DA:O. What should I do to spice this up and make it the jaw dropping deliciousness I always hear about?
If it's the one I'm thinking of, you need to open a sewer lid inside the bathroom (maybe?) and then go down and there's lots to explore

3 step process to never having to worry about resources in Fallout 3:

1.) Sell all your useless junk until the merchant has no money left.
2.) Buy everything that they have that you might need.
3.) Steal the money back and move on to the next merchant.

That and reverse pickpocketing is hilarious.
I think everyone in Megaton in one of my saves is wearing the pre-war pajamas.

personally, i love mass effect 1 and 2 and dragons age origins myself, and i can't stand fallout 3, its so boring and just a massive sandbox game thats almost empty, their are a few towns sure, but besides that the whole damn game is emptiness with random things to fight against

so just fyi, we seem to have similar tastes, and i beat the game, and i immediately sold it due to not liking it at all

I don't get the "Don't shoot the people who sell you stuff" I started my most recent Fallout save by disarming the bomb to get the house and then murdering everyone in Megaton (Actually I did Colins stuff first) by the time I was done I had tonnes of cash, stimpacks and ammo. Evil is the easiest way to play.
If you don't know where Rivet City is then you just cut yourself off from any merchant who can repair your things. You'll spend more money on the items to repair your things. Thats why I usually locate Rivet City on my pip-boy and then blow up Megaton (though I usually save it because I generally play as a good guy). But you are right, evil is easier.
Yeah rivet city is pretty much the only location that I haven't laid waste too. And on the repairing front I took it as one of my main skills as its so handy. I got it up to 100 as fast as possible so I don't waste money, it is a pain when your skill isn't very high and all your guns shatter after a couple of rounds though.

Blow up Megaton in a nice nuclear explosion and move into pennyhouse xD Do whatever you want and it'll be an awesome game

Restart, and don't shoot Moira.

Or whichever store lady you're talking about.

Or, simply wander to Rivet City.
Check the wiki.
I agree with most of that, except for the part about not shooting Moira. I hate that woman.

that works until you use up that ammo and those stimpacks, and then you're left with tons of caps an nobody to buy stimpacks and ammo from.

being careful about who you kill is the most important part of the game, as it changes just about everything. For instance, i always disarm the megaton bomb, not for the karma, but for the fact that megaton is smack in the center of the map, with a doctor, ammo/armor/stimpack supply, and quite a few mini-quests.

also, if you're having trouble getting into the game, it may be because you're playing it as a FPS instead of an open world RPG, nothing wrong with that, but the game wont feel right if you play it that way, and you should find a game like MW2 to satisfy your bloodlust.

also, the easy way to rape the face of the world in fallout 3,
1. get ol' painless
2. get 70-100 small guns
3. get 70-100 repair
4. ???
5. PROFIT

ol' painless is a special hunting rifle found in the republic of dave, you can either get the key to the safe from Dave via the quest, or slaughter everyone there. This area is found at the farthest northeast section of the game map. The rifle has 100% accuracy and obliterates people when used for sniping, and since it uses 32. rounds and is repaired with hunting rifles, ammo and durability should never be a problem.

the best thing to do is to collect all the enclave/power armor you can and make all the kids in little lamplight wear them, then take the clothes from the kids and make everyone in megaton wear them, with wonky results.

That's the beauty of the game; you can do pretty much anything.
Feel like doing the main quest only? You can
Feel like exploring the entire capital wasteland? You can
Feel like blowing up Megaton? You can

Start again, maybe, and try wandering around, exploring. There's quite alot out there, and most of the sidequests are great. Pity the main storyline is lacklustre.

Maybe it's just that the game isn't for you. In that case, don't force yourself to enjoy it, just stop.

If you're going to shoot up the joint most people won't like you :).

You could look up other safe havens, but megaton was the only proper one you get - with a house anyway.

Or you could just quit, it might not be the game for you. Just depends on what you want really - you said the environment's repetitive, it might just not be for you :).

I only had to start again once, when the door to Galaxy News Radio remained locked(and could only be opened with a key), even when I used the intercom. The Metro system was very confusing, but only because I was in such a hurry to do the questline that I missed out the vital point that I had to use the tunnels in the first place.

But the only thing I'd say you did wrong was the whole shooting people bit. Fallout 3 does tend to get less fun as you do everything, and the DLC such as the Pitt is a bit to short lived for my liking.

I can't understand how people get stuck in Fallout 3.

Everything is signposted clearly and every quest section is written in your pipboy, telling you what to do and where to go.

I hope these people never try Fallout 1 and 2, they wouldn't make it past the first 10 minutes.

I completely agree with you on the limited amounts of ammo, weapons and most things that move hating me. I was even more annoyed when after going through one of the subways, killing some mutants and talking to some people for about an hour, I was told to go BACK into a different story. Boredom killed this game for me. It's far too realistic (considering the circumstances) than my liking. If you enjoyed it? hey, knock yourself out.

The game is, in essence, as fun has you make it. If your all about killing everyone and everything, then you'll find that it will get old real fast. However, if your willing to put in some time, and effort.... who am I kidding, a lot of time and effort, you can actually make it play out like a movie of sorts. But that is also the key, you really have to work at the game to make it work for your. The game type says it all, RPG, Roll Playing Game. You have to make your character, and then play them. This isn't some mindless shooter like Battlefield 2.

That said, in terms of 'Are you doing something wrong?', if your not having fun, the only thing your doing wrong is not having fun. Follow your folly. If the game doesn't feel right to you, its neither your, nor the games, fault. The game just isn't your style.

Man I hated fallout3.
I just couldn't stand it.
Not because I hate the adventure aspect. No, no that is awesome as always.
But seriously, it's freakin bleak, depressing, and everything kills you. Even the environment. But not in a creative "Aww that plant just tried to eat me!" sorta way. More like "You now have cancer" sorta way. Oh, and the healthcare? Its freakin terrible. First time I played I got a concussion right off the bat and had no fuckin idea how to make it stop. It gave me a migraine.
Taking care of your partners is a pain in the ass. Dogmeat is the only one I can stand...mainly because he doesn't talk back and you can heal him whenever....
You can't kill the children, for some god fearing reason. But you can make them orphans. Much more ethical.
Walking across the wasteland seemed more like a chore than an adventure. All for short, easy, tedious missions that often leave me feeling like I missed something.
Talking to people sucks, because If I want to be anything other than a goody two shoes, they try to kill me. So now I have several towns full of dead people.
They give you radio, which would be a good thing..if the stations they gave you played good music, and you had them all right off the bat. Why did dogmeat have to die over a stupid violin, that turned out to be out of tune anyways?
I liked oblivion, where everything came together. Fallout seems too......shallow I guess. I just went on gamefaqs not too long ago to check if how many quests/missions I didn't do and where to find them. I had only done....maybe 20 or so, including main quests, and it turns out I did them all.
I really do enjoy walking through the capital wasteland and finding different groups(preferably one that doesn;t want you dead) fighting each other.
And not knowing if whats around the corner can kill you in one hit or not? IT's a good feeling.
But overall, I dislike it. Maybe if they just added more stuff to do in between cities, or maybe made it closer together...

I hated Fallout 3. I love fantasy RPGs, but this was grey, boring and depressing. It's also incredibly repetetive.
