One question.
Why are there really good writers that write books because they like writing and are actually good at what they do, you know, like Terry Pratchett.
And then there are writers such as Stephenie Mayer and J.K.Rowling, that are just happy with their big pile of cash and stop writing.

Just wondering.. .
Umm... except Rowling IS currently working on various projects. Did you actually bother to look up what you were saying? Just because none of them are out yet, and she can afford to take her time, doesn't mean she isn't writing.

And PLEASE don't compare her to the waste of space that is Meyer. Meyer couldn't write an authentic/believable human character if her life depended on it. The only reason her books sell at ALL is because they're the same as porn for many mindless females (NOT saying all females are mindless. I know several females personally who hate Meyer's work with a passion)
Also, J.K. Rowling is a talentless hack who even quit her job just to write her goddamn books.
And that the only thing that she really does is mix school with magic. Which is like clashing the Breakfast club with Gandalf.

To be fair, the series ended for me with the last book 4 years ago, i've still watched the movies, i liekd them, but the story concluded when the books ended, it's not like teh movies are adding anything new there.

Yes, like all other franchises i've liked it was a bit sad when it ended, but the movie is just not gonna make that happen again, cause it already ended once.

I haven't seen the last movie yet haven't had time, so i'm still looking forward to that.

Before I saw the last movie I was shattered that it meant the end of my childhood.

Then I walked out and realized I wasn't affected that badly.

It'll be missed, but it went out on a high.
basically this.... I grew up with the series, I got the first 3 books in a box set when I was 8, never looked back since ^_^

I actually had a mild..... well I was depressed when the books ended, but I was better after the movie was over.... though not by much,

but I've come to terms with the fact that there will be no more

I don't really care that much for the movies, but I remember having that same sadness when book 7 ends as I do all series when they decide to end after spending 100+ hours of my time characterizing themselves. It's like if you were an avid Spider-Man fan from the 80's and you've read every single book of all the concurrent series and then he dies.

Part of you thinks "Oh, well at least they can't ruin the series!" and the other part thinks "But I KNOW him better than I know my best friend!" It's an odd sadness.

Kinda. On one side it'll be weird not hearing or seeing a trailer for a new Harry Potter but on the other side you see what they've done and know they could have done better with somethings. But all in all I am debating still.
I am waiting for them to wait a decade then remake them, except with a different 'artistic vision' so to speak. So all those little tid-bits they missed out on might get little 'background references' during one of the major scenes, and a new visual take on things like hogsmead, the castle, the room of requirement, all that stuff. Also, all those through-the-course-of-the-story bits that movie bob touched on[footnote]Where plot twists and stuff are revealed in later books, so the earlier books don't really set it up well for all of that[/footnote].

I'd just like to see what happens when someone can look at what was done and go "This was good, this wasn't, I felt like this didn't capture the feel of the book, a reference should have been here, etc", but not now, more like in 10 years time, when there is a new generation of kids.

OT: I'll miss not having that 'expected' movie to look forward, though this Avengers build up doesn't look too bad.

It's tough to see a great series come to an end, but it must be so.

And the seventh book, a cop-out? Heck no, it wasn't perfect, but it was consistent with the other books and an overall solid finale. Except for the painfully banal epilogue, I couldn't be happier with it.

I'll miss it. I've been following this Harry Potter thing since Sorcerer's Stone reached the US. I still remember people mourning the demise of the printed word and sorrow over their children's disinterest in even the slimmest, lightest, easiest books. Only to have these same, supposedly alliterate pre-teens start demanding several-hundred-page tomes. Weird how things turn out.

As much as I hate to see it go, I really hope it doesn't become a sprawling zombie franchise like Star Wars. Let it end with grace.

Doesn't quitting her day job to write kind of make her, you know, a writer? I can guarantee you that Stephen King doesn't have a day job on top of writing. How does that prove a thing? As far as the talent thing goes, that's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. And since WHEN is mixing two things together such a horrible thing? There have been countless fantastic books/films/albums/games/ect that result from that. Complaining about her mixing two things together is just petty. If you have a legitimate point to make besides simply "I don't like her/HP" and want to use examples to support that, that's fine, but don't just say random things and hope it makes you look smart.

Ugh... it's terrible that peoples troll detection is wavering.. What a shame.

I think they shall be missed and it shall be a monument in film making due to the length of the series and being able to retain the original cast (bar Crabbe whose actor was arrested). We saw these kids grow up on camera and I grew up with them however I felt more sad when the book series ended. The ending to the film series was dramatic, spectacular and I will never forget it, the series, the characters and the world of Harry Potter

kind of like when your favorite show enters its final season.
If Harry Potter was your favorite series that's sort of exactly what this is.

Isn't there some middle ground between "You'll be missed" and "Good Riddance"
I thought it was an excellent series, and with the exception of the third one the movies were wonderful.
but more would be unwelcome. Harry's story is over. It can not be picked up again without something extremely contrived happening. Another book or movie would feel like Fan-Wank and just be bad for everyone (Except JK Rowling's wallet)

I certainly don't think "Good Riddance" I cried when I finished the last book (Because it ended, not because it was sad)

It was a great series that rapped up nicely. I don't want more, I'm not glad it's over. I'm just happy it exists.

I love the whole thing to death, the books more so than the movies. I don't really see myself getting sad or missing it because it's 'over', though. I know I'll be still reading the books years from now. It's incredible to see the culmination of a fantastic accomplishment in movie-making, but other than that the 'end' doesn't really impact much.

It's sad to see it ending, but all great things must come to an end some day. It's been a part of my life for a long time and while it saddens me to see it have to be concluded, I'm also just so happy that I was able to stick with it for so long.

I'll definitely miss it. Both the movies and the books.

First of all, the actors are just about the same age as I am, so I kinda grew up together with them and that makes it more interesting I guess.

Secondly, I like the books more than the movies. Again, I grew up with them and I really think it'll be something I will recall in the decades to come. The books that got the youth reading again isn't an exaggeration in my case.

Ah well ... youth sentiment ... hope my kids will read the books someday and be as mesmerized by them as I was. Without a doubt, the books will become classics.
