as surprising as it is i was discriminated against by one of my english professors for being a male.. She was a massive feminist and since i was one of the only guys in the class she always lowered my grade because of it.
Or maybe you just didn't deserve a better grade?
seeing as i was top of the class and one out of the three to pass that class...maybe you should make better posts.
Ah yes, because obviously I should have known that. If you were top of the class and you were one of three to pass she can't have been lowering your grade by very much.

I havn't. I'm pretty much a person that has nothing that is easily discriminated. I'm not fat, I'm white, I'm a man, I don't have a religion, I'm avarage length and I have short, dark brown hair. I also never do political statements the way some people to. Doing that is basically implying that your opinion is different.

As far as I'm aware no, I guess I'm somewhat lucky in that respect. Then again, that's probably likely to change, as I haven't come out yet and one of my closest friends has expressed some rather homophobic attitudes in the past, although I'm hoping rather naively that he wasn't being entirely serious and that being bisexual rather than gay might soften the blow somewhat.

Age.

Never mind that I have better qualifications, behavour and outside hobbies other than television, il still lose that low paying job to the 30 year old man.

Not as bad as some of the other cases on this thread, but it really irks this 17 year old.

There is one group that no one ever mentions, no one ever admits to being one and everyone discriminates against.

Arseholes.

Well i'm an arsehole and proud dammit!

And its time people started owning up to being arseholes, going on rallies so we can get the respect we deserve for our unflinching dedication to being kind of a dick to people!

In all seriousness however, if you find that you have never been discriminated against then you live in a place where everyone is freakishly the same, which would be kinda terrible.

As a Maori, I've had to be a part of awkward racist conversations when the person making the comments doesn't realize (because I don't largely appear to be). I usually let them rant it out before dropping a hint, and then they became really ashamed.

It's kind of hilarious, if a bit sad.

I've also been told insulting things by some racists even when they find out. Especially when they are drunk.

I'm going to have to side with those people who have pointed out that being teased doesn't necessarily rise to the level of discrimination, and those white people who put their 'oppression' on the level sillybear and others here should really stop and consider the world that you're living in. This is not to say that racism cannot be directed at the majority, only that it's almost impossible for a racial slight to land as hard on those who are in power. Personally I've only encountered discrimination directed at me personally twice in my life, neither of which were terrible. One being a somewhat humorous situation when I was in high school working at a discount store and a customer told me to "go back to my own country". I have darkish skin as is common among NW Native Americans so I can see where he got confused, but it was hard to feel too offended when I couldn't suppress a chuckle. The second time bothered me significantly more, although I'll admit freely that it doesn't nearly rise to the alienation that many people suffer, when a friend of mine made some very broad assumptions about my spiritual beliefs based on my race. I know that doesn't sound so bad, but I remember at the time being really taken aback by this idea that because of my parentage I held to some ancient traditions (many of which are not even native to this region) and that this came from a friend who really should have known better.

Im a white male, possibly the most discriminated demographic there is. By default I am racist, evil, a potential rapist, can't dance, prejudiced, uneducated, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, and patriotic.

My attitude is to let those who discriminate you believe whatever the hell they want. In my experience, any attempt to educate those who believe I am not one of those things has been met with increased hostility. I say if someone calls me a Racist, Evil, Rhythmless Rapist, I will pat them lightly on the head and congratulate them for being so smart.
Pretty much this. Have you ever actually done the whole head-patting thing? I did it once and I thought the guy was about to stroke out he was so pissed.
I'm Asian (and half white) and a Conservative, so whenever I tell people my political beliefs I get judged for being a minority and not a Liberal.

That poll ought not only be multiple choice but have choices that encompass more than one form of discrimination on the list.

I could easily check 'All of the Above'. That's part and parcel of living in the South while being descended from people from the Southern Hemisphere(and tending to be colorful in a non-ironic way at times),after all. If I don't leave it at that and go into specifics, I'll end up with a great wall of text and feel more than a little whiny, practically mandating that I take the rickshaw to WhinyTown.

It's reason enough to be tolerant of everyone when I've been discriminated against in almost every way possible for a single human being to be discriminated against at some point and thus know how it feels(or how foolish it makes the one doing said discrimination look). That even includes robots though those ferrous foreigners from cyberspace/Mechs-e-Co done took jobs away from decent Americans.
As long as you aren't too disrespectful, I'll respect you,ReCaptcha. You've been pushing it lately, however. You must think we meat-bags are pretty stupid for not being able to decipher your cryptic codes at times, don't you?

Hello my dear Escapees, your friendly Sister of Battle here.

So I've noticed that a lot of people in the world, and particularly on this site have a whole host of unique opinions and lifestyles, so through a long winding train of thought I began wondering if anyone of them had ever been discriminated against due to their beliefs, gender, lifestyle or even race.
I'm disabled, most of the time I have to walk with a stick (the rest of the time I can't walk at all) I've heard people mutter behind my back before (apparently the inability to walk also makes you deaf) but the most shocking discrimination came recently when I went to see HP & the deathly hallows part two. A guy rushed past me as he was "sick of being stuck behind the fucking cripple" (his words) and knocked me to the floor, my friend and one of the cinema attendants helped me to my feet, I thanked the attendant who then told me that I should wait for everyone else to be seated before going in. I complained and said that I didn't want a seat right in front of the screen, to which he replied that "maybe you should stay at home then, and wait for it on DVD"
Sometimes I want to hit people, this was a time I wanted to stamp on peoples heads!
...wow

I dont know what to say...DAMN I would be angry, I guess because its a big even people would be anxious to get seats but yeah, having to go for crappy seats because of that...I cant belive the cinema guy said that to you

Hello my dear Escapees, your friendly Sister of Battle here.

because of my god damn religion, and the fact that I have one. They hurled insults at me and generally began to avoid me or treat me like an idiot and THIS even happened a few times:
Person: Uhg, I'm having so much trouble with my (Psychology/Geology/Physics) homework.
Me: Oh, do you need some help?
Person: No, I don't want to offend your beliefs, you don't believe in this kind of stuff.

That didn't make me mad, that just hurt.

I've been discriminated against completely on two occasions. The first was where i worked and they needed to make cutbacks and didn't have a legitimate reason to fire anyone or make then redundant. SO they started harassing all the students (of which there are 3 others) to try and get them to leave. I've been harassed, ridiculed, been told that they hope i fail my exam results so the they can try to get rid of me some other way. The students teamed up and we made an official complaint saying we were being discriminated against because our current lifestyle needs us to have a job, and that the bosses were abusing that by making us work long and horrible shifts without notice and without overtime, not paying us owed wages etc. They knew they could almost get away with it because we all NEEDED the money. They only did this to the students. It friggin hurts when your trying to better your life with education and are stuck in a dead end job where no one cares if the students get picked on because it's virtually allowed, no one wants to help you...

I've been ridiculed by some atheists because of my philosophical and ethical beliefs. I'm technically Protestant but am non practicing, so i'm not religious but my philosophical beliefs conflict with non-religious belief and i used to get problems with these friends of friends who thought i was "Mentally Defective" because i hold these philosophical values.

I'm lucky. Despite being a white, agnostic male, nothing major.

And I don't mean some guy saying "I hate all XXXXXXX" on the news, I mean someone personally judged and was biased against you, simply because of one factor of your life.

I personally have been shunned from a group of friends, not because of my gender(female), or my lifestyle(bisexual) or even my political party(not telling), but because of my god damn religion, and the fact that I have one. They hurled insults at me and generally began to avoid me or treat me like an idiot and THIS even happened a few times:

Hello again, Daughter of the Emperor.

I'm actually surprised. I thought America was much more religious than Europe. And more liberal.
Oh, wait - I've been discriminable against once. An American couple coming over here to the UK became really offensive when I said I was socialist.
Apparently, they didn't know most of Europe is.

Funny thing happened to me. I managed to successfully apply for a scholarship. The organization was called The Alliance for Minority Participation. I'm not a minority where I come from yet, and technically they aren't allowed to prevent any particular race from applying/receiving it.

The organization that demanded a bunch of bureaucratic garbage to be done to fulfill requirements that were poorly communicated. They would send e-mails of at most 3 sentences suggesting whom to ask about what needed to be done. I had to ask one of the directors -- who is a minority -- for help on what needed doing. She talked down to me -- like I would imagine a minority being talked down to, and treated as a complete imbecile -- and acted as if the e-mails had paragraphs of detailed explanations on what I needed to do.

Needless to say, it wasn't because she had a lot to do, and it wasn't because I was asking questions. I left that organization quickly.

I happen to enjoy marijuana. So naturally I steal, don't care about my education and am going to die of a heroin overdose. People I used to be perfectly good friends with no longer talk to me. The thing is, I was smoking for 2 years before they found out, and even then only because I told them. I asked them how this was in anyway different to them drinking alcohol (we were underage at the time, they were playing the legality card). They turned to me and said "It's just different, okay? I can't hang around with you anymore."

They said they'd stay friends with me if I gave it up, but if they're willing to turn their back on me at the drop of a hat, are they really worth having as a friend?

It's just something that bothered me.

Also, I've been discriminated against many times when I was younger because I was tubby and didn't like football. I was more into make believe shit but no one else was. I got into video games because it meant I didn't have to run around in the woods by myself and have the piss taken. Ah well, kids suck.

lol keep dreaming xD

Um a couple times because of my race. Had a woman call me a coconut once in london and a 12 yr old all me a paki dispite not being pakistani and walking down the street with my white granmother (I'm mixed).

Tbh living in a place where you are the only black kid in the class is hard (in relative terms of course, tbh I'm very lucky to have the kinda life I have.) but you don't get hasseled so much like when you are in London where people excpect you to act a certain way because you are black. I'm not sure what worse.

But yeah I get more hassel for being a nerd rather that being black I'm honest.

OMG this! My grandad was a coal miner and it's like suddnely they start making really insulting asumptions about his intelligence the second I metion it.

But what is worse it the asumptions people make when I tell them I lived on a housing estate. The way people casually look down on people from estates is kinda sad really. It's like I couldn't have gotten into university on my own or my sister must have dropped out of school because she was pregnant or somthing.

I'm Korean. They're not. They're also lucky I'm not the kind to beat the shit out of them. My friend you see, he doesn't like racists. Not at all. Even though I hold the opposite opinions, I respect his views nevertheless.
