When you follow your own rules. That, is decent moderation. The escapist mods however, most of the time, do not, and are far to opinionated on when the rules apply, and apparently being in the publishers club or working for the escapist gets you a free pass to say and do what you want. And to be fair, that comment was an insert considering who most sites basically have no mod system beyond one guy with a keyboard and an attitude problem, so yes, The Escapist has got a great system of moderation comparitively. All I am saying is, if you are going to impose rules RE: banning and reporting, then you need to enforce them where they occur whenever they occur without fail rather than letting shit slide because of your own personal bias.Copper Zen said:I knew it was just a matter of time before someone started growling at the Mods. How do you characterize 'great' moderation when you consider the moderation on this site to be better than any other site like it?![]()
I'm in the Pub Club and they watch what I say pretty fiercely. Can you give any specific examples of Posters, any Posters, getting away to say and do what they want?SpectacularWebHead said:When you follow your own rules. That, is decent moderation. Him and Khar really had it out for each other.
That fantastic little emotional mini series taught me to cool off the kindness a bit. Some people might take it the wrong way. T^TSacman said:Heh, yeah it all seemed a bit too real for him... seeing as how I remember at one point he was telling you that he loved you... xD
same with the banning too... taking it all personally cause he got in trouble for posting porn once, if I remember correctly...<.>
I'm not talking about forum celebs, Arguably a couple of people in the banned list where in fact, forum celebrities. No, I mean once you stat giving the escapist money, the mods look the other way to a lot of stuff. Just because YOU are responsible and adhere to the rules does not mean everyone does likewise. I can't name anyone specific, but the number of times someone has come out with something that was either directly insulting or offensive in a wider context and gotten away with it because they were in pub club (Although only ever on R and P, that is the only vague example I can give, sorry, I haven't been active recently and therefore can't link anything recent) is staggering. And selective moderation is something that tends to pop up a lot between randomers, in what I would imagine is either laziness or MOD bias.Copper Zen said:I'm in the Pub Club and they watch what I say pretty fiercely. I don't wish to come off as confrontational D:, but I remember the sour poster who had such a hang up against "Forum Celebrities" but he/she just ranted, and when someone else asked for examples he/she got nasty and spoke in generalities. I don't recall who it was but witnessing the whole exchange left a bad taste in my mouth.
Okay, first of all OF COURSE staff have special exceptions made. If we were banned from the site, how would it be run? It is our job to work here, and therefore it would be logically impossible to do said job and ban ourselves at the same time.SpectacularWebHead said:I'm not talking about forum celebs, Arguably a couple of people in the banned list where in fact, forum celebrities. Well, I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt. Susan attacked people for defending ME, and that includes the friendliest user in the whole Escapist, Caramel Frappe. One or two of 'em got banned from that, and I got both punished and called a dick for saying the site was ugly. I'm not defending these people.SpectacularWebHead said:Ah yes, the mods. It's a bit of a long story. Essentially, after Teddy's banning they decided to migrate from The Escapist and make their own forum. After that they slowly got banned from here for a variety of reasons, usually to do with either mod sass or for trolling the forums under the idea that since they had their own forum they didn't care what happened to their accounts on this one.Lionsfan said:If you don't mind me asking, what happened with Hubilub and all them? If it helps, I can name over 100 accounts that are Pubclub and have a ban level higher then 2 currently.SpectacularWebHead said:I can't name anyone specific, but the number of times someone has come out with something that was either directly insulting or offensive in a wider context and gotten away with it because they were in pub club
Unless the report button does not work, I believe there have been times I have reported without commenting on a post and nothing has been done. As for staff members, Is this some form of "Who watches the watcher?" situation, where there is no internal moderation whatsoever? Not neccesarily for Mods, but for contributers, the video makers and article writers and such?Nasrin said:Okay, first of all OF COURSE staff have special exceptions made. Note: That doesn't mean that we don't make it an in house policy to strictly adhere to forum rules ourselves. We do try our best to follow every rule. Additionally, in the case of staff or content providers, conduct problems are addressed in ways that are not visible on the forums themselves.
Second point, we don't make exceptions for publisher's club members. If there's a post that you feel deserves more attention then you need to make someone aware. Don't assume that because something has gone unnoticed that we're consenting to it. The moderators are volunteers, and they simply can't be everywhere at once.

Speaking of silliness:Scde2 said:I think that whole ordeal was just plain silly for all involved.
I mostly lurk now-a-days. Saw a poster get a warning the other day for using the red and black mod notification.mParadox said:Speaking of silliness:Scde2 said:I think that whole ordeal was just plain silly for all involved.
A) I miss the always active Ban Game. It was super silly fun. And I miss that.
B) Y U NO POST MORE IN FORUM GAMES?!
Liek, srsly. You were a regular and now... you're not. T^T

It was me debating ResonanceSD, then Mortai decided to get involved after that was basically settled by trying to pick at my earlier quotes in the thread.anthony87 said:Was it that debate that was more of a three way thing involving yourself, Mortai and.....Kerplunk if I recall correctly? Nope. That's me. Same avvy for almost 2 yrs now. I've just been super busy trying to take over the world. But... I still take time to enjoy the Holidays.mParadox said:I think I remember you. And the Ban Game? It isn't locked or anything. Nope. It's disappeared. Like any good old fashioned threads, it's still there. Just beyond the radar.
Yeah that's the thread I was thinking of, was just combining it in my mind with a different thread in which he was doing the exact same thing.AzrealMaximillion said:It was me debating ResonanceSD, then Mortai decided to get involved after that was basically settled by trying to pick at my earlier quotes in the thread.anthony87 said:Was it that debate that was more of a three way thing involving yourself, Mortai and.....Kerplunk if I recall correctly? He proceeded to make personal attacks and a paltry attempt at debating. All while reporting me for anything that he found offensive. I think he got banned for his overuse/misuse of the 'report' button. I don't know for sure but it was far from a graceful ban and wasn't anyone's fault but his own. There's one thing a select few forum members on this site tend to do and its act majorly pompous when they don't need to.
