Other: One Piece.

Its just so much more interesting. Naruto was good in part 1.. Bleach died after Aizen's gambit and betrayal and Rukia was saved.

DRAGON BALL Z

.... I'll get my coat...

But I really love Samurai Champloo. I hate how some japanese stuff just goes on and on. I like how Samurai Champloo tells its story and then is done.

I've found it hard to get into bleach and Naruto. I really dont like any of the characters. I must be becoming more western as I age!

After that part, it has just gotten stupid. Really really stupid. The series jumped the shark a long time ago
THIS, a million times this. I mean Naruto has some stupidly convaluted and stretched out story lines but I'd like to think if they did the equivalent in Naruto as Bleach did they'd have the decency just to end it.

Never seen an anime that ran over 50 episodes that managed to stay interesting. Some times one can manage to stay funny... but never interesting in any serious/storytelling manner. Bleach and Naruto are not exceptions to this rule, they are simply confirmations of it.

As far as i am concerned, Berserk is the one manga that stands high above everything else.
Fantastic artwork combined with a story that has no equal in any medium i can think of.
Just don't make the mistake of quiting on it after the first few volumes. The story gets really epic, and you can re-read it a hundred times and every time you can find some new aspect to the story or some funy detail in the artwork.

Death Note is also very good.

The important thing to consider about Naruto/Bleach is that the Manga is far superior to the anime.
I like both mangas, Naruto more than Bleach, but the animes don't do them justice, especially Naruto Shippuden. At least watch the japanese originals, even if you have to read subtitles.
But seriously, read the mangas, they are good.
I like tyhe way you think :) berserk ftw
Although with Berserk most people think that its just mindless blood and gore with no story at all :(

Out of the big 3 i'd have to say that I like Naruto and One Piece around the same, and Bleach slightly less but its still very enjoyable.

Although if this was my favourite manga/anime of all time, It would be

Berserk
EDIT: DRAGONBALL Z!!
Fist of the North Star/Blue sky
Naruto/One piece
Death note
Tough
Shaman King
Bleach

Im missing out quite a few

I like both. I like Gantz, Claymore, Gamaran (<3), The Breaker, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama (SHUT UP I'M STRAIGHT), Great Teacher Onizuka and few minor mangas that are currently ongoing MORE than those "big ones", but they are good enough to enjoy reading once every week.

Wow, thought nobody watched Kaze no Stigma. Pretty decent anime... I loved the hot springs episode. "You're lucky. If I wanted to, I would kill you, but..." "...You hate getting dirty after a bath, right?" "HMPF NEXT TIME WILL BE YOUR LAST" "HMPF NEXT TIME WILL BE YOUR LAST" for 10 minutes straight. Going from ridiculous, to dumb, to ridiculous again. And the ending of course.

About Bleach - the only reason I liked it to be honest is because of the fights. I picked up Dragon Ball manga recently and it has a LOT faster plot than Bleach - Buu arc lasted about 60 issues, from the tournament to the end of the series. Bleach's Aizen arc laster... oh holy crap, three times that I think. Then again, Fairy Tail and few other animes also have great fight scenes..

This is like comparing dog shit, with cat shit. Then looking at the polls, you decided to throw in regurgitated dog shit. The fun thing about this metaphor is that the shit used to be decent, edible food.

OP please, there's more to anime than just the big three and the 90's classics. Do some lurking, just a little and you'd find out that there is actual stuff worth watching. Hell, even googling "good anime", or "anime worth watching" is a great way to start.

OT: Other - Hunter X Hunter. Fairly known, but strangely nobody has given it a chance. Made by the same person who did Yu Yu Hakusho. Imagine the latter, but on steroids.

Both these animes are terrible. Good stories should have an end, a resoultion to the conflict. Bleach and Naruto are milked plotwise to drag it on forever and ever so they can keep seling the name. Those two and One Piece are like the Call of Duties of the anime world.

Yeah, there are dozens of anime/manga series that I've viewed. The reason why I made this thread about Naruto and Bleach was because I didn't expect there to be as many responses to this as there has been so far. Now I know how many people enjoy different types of anime and manga, so next time I post a thread related to anime, it will be about other titles.

In the contex of the poll, I pick Naruto.

If I had another choice, One Piece by far,
it hits notes on me like a piano.

Mobile Suit Gundam (most long running series have about 50-100 ep,s and most short ones around 8-26)
it know when to end a story line (unlike Bleach/Naruto/Shippuden which have over 9000 episodes and is still going strong)
I,m not planning to watch AGE but I still have a big backlog of Zeta,ZZ and 0079 among other series.
also I HATE Naruto for birthing the world of Narutards (I used to be one/ a Weeabo luckily I,m past that phase. Although I still have a konoha bandanna.)
I tried watching Naruto but I stopped after seeing episodes number of 500+ I think I stopped extremely early on. I tried watching bleach and just stopped watching before they went to the Soul Society.

It seems they have cut that particular part out of the rules in the more recent editions.

I do miss the days of the stricter, clearer forum rules.
it's still in the banhammer thread on top, but yeah absent from the rule topic

Locked/Deleted Threads

This kind of moderation is probably the most common on the forums, but has no effect on the user themselves (unless coupled with a probation/suspension/ban). What it does is prevent a thread from being replied to, thus letting it sink down through the pages to a point of obscurity.

There are two kinds of locks out there:
The normal lock, as described above; or
Thread/Post deletion, used to eliminate posts or threads that would be better off not seeing the light of day.

Here are some thread categories that are sure to receive a lock:
Vs. Threads: Who would win in a fight: A or B? Which is better: X or Y? These are dull, repetitive, and are surefire ways to start a flame war. All three things that The Escapist does not wish to be recognised as."
it's funny cause i think over time the escapist has in somme way gotten dull and very repetitive :D

Yes, but that thread was made under the reign of the old forum rules.
I don't really know what the official policy is on vs-threads these days.

Yeah. I guess I'm fine with it.
Vs-threads can spur some nice discussions so long as they do not get too plentiful.

I could never get into Naruto, the main character just seems like a dud.

Bleach was much better in my opinion, but they really took a dip in quality around the 4th season, only lately have they started getting good again, in like, season 15.

Right now I prefer Soul Eater to both. Specifically the manga, as the anime has now been drowned in filler.

Honestly....if you are going to to a vs. thread for shounen manga/anime - you need to do it between the Big 3.
One Piece vs. Naruto vs. Bleach
Otherwise it doesn't work.

Anyway - my vote would go to Bleach regardless. Kubo is an absolute master of creating interesting panel perspectives for samey scenarios, and his character designs are fucking awesome.
He also has the most badass chapter titles of ALL TIME...referencing rock albums, Nirvana, contemporary poetry etc.
Fuck the anime up the ass though. Its like they took a fun shounen manga with more 'edge' than usual and neutered the fuck out of it to make it even more palatable.

kaibutsu oujo would have to be my favorite. It may not be the most popular out there however the characters are the most likable I've ever seen in an anime.

Both shit, I didn't enjoy either.
One piece isn't better, it's the same rehashed crap.
One is for gay pirates, the other is for pansy ninjas and the last is for sword fetish people.

There are much better animations out there, far surpassing that crap.
*If you want action,
-you can get a Tarantino-esque experience from 'Black Lagoon'.
-Another one is 'FullMetal Alchemist' for a nice plot and many secondary characters you care about, plus interesting fights.
-The Hardcore shit comes from 'Elfen Lied', though you could say that the gore is to emphasize the inner pain these girls experienced, the nudity is how they feel so exposed and fragile, but nobody can explain why they need to show a decapitation every episode, besides the OVA.
*If you want a comedy I recommend,
- 'The world god only knows' because you've never sympathized with an otaku before.
- 'Welcome to the N.H.K' for brilliant, funny and realistic comedy that harbors an ACTUAL PLOT. But it also includes talking fridges and an... wait for it.... otaku.
*If you want a good drama, a plot with many twists and some human emotions,
- 'Tokyo Magnitude 8.0' will grab you by the throat and then at the end decapitate you, leaving your twitching head rolling down a flight of stairs. Yes, that's the feeling you'll have when you'll finish the anime, and you'll love it.
- 'Death note'. Sure most people say that the last third of the anime is crap, but the rest is amazing, and even though some people can't stop bitching when some characters they love go away, this is a must see for you. MUST.
- 'Code Geass : Lelouch of the Rebellion' for nice mecha battles with compelling story and characters. No, wait - SCRATCH THAT. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, for a compelling story with strong and meaningful characters, with a side dish of mecha battles.
That's it.
Go watch it instead of waiting for the fillers to kill you. SLOWLY.
