Im Welsh, i dont really have much attachment to the british tag, not sure most people from the two celtic countries of britain (wales and scotland) do refer to themselves as british often. as can be seen from Mackheath's quote of "I am Scottish. Not British" thats not uncommon. i think thatcherism had alot to do with the resentment of being called british. when alot of the conservative cuts came in that were deverstating to areas like wales (mainly the valleys coal industres) this led to a general feeling of "us and them", although things probably couldnt have been described as perfect before this. especially when wales and scotlands military history pretty much reads like this.

thats being said i do have appreciation for some aspects of british culture, its a good place to be if you like rock and roll and comedy.

I couldn't be any more indifferent to it! I'm 25... shit I'm 26 damn I'm getting old! Being proud to be from somewhere to me is the same as being proud of someone else's achievements! Ive had very little to do with the UK on the whole! Born in Scotland moved to England grew up and now I'm paying taxes! Schools aren't the same here as in say the USA! We weren't taught we're the greatest! We don't seem to be the most shit country going *cough~ Africa* but we aren't exactly "GREAT" Britain! More like Alright Britain

I small percentage. and not really, i wasnt born there. I run on the american basis of provable 2%-ism (mainly its you have ot be 2% to be considered seriously of that race/ethnicity.

6% Native American.
24% Italian
15% German
36% Polish/Pollack (i'm told there's a difference, but i dont see it)
14% Irish
4% mixed (pick a country in europe, chances are I'm part of it geneologically)
and
1% British

Its a waste of ink to even say i'm british.

Most English people are amazingly tolerent of other races and nationalities - We have to be, seeing as we live in a very ethnically diverse country. Maybe you didn't make it up to Manchester, and the southerners didn't treat you right... I'm at a loss as to what to say. I'd like to shout "FABRICATION", but I don't know why you'd stoop that low.

Just saying what i experienced. I know I made up to the 3/4s of the country, but it was more or less along the coast for most of it till london, then it was just (relatively) straight north.

I can't say much, seeing as I'm only half british, but What I can say I shall. I went through a phase where I hated everything British, seeing as my current school was mostly a bunch of dickheads, so I always associated those people with the rest of Britain (and watching the inbetweeners certainly didn't help that). A couple of years wiser, I must admit that living in one of the world'd premium city's (london, amongst city's such as Tokyo, New York City, Milan, Paris, and Las Vegas) is pretty damn cool and flashy. It's quite awesome at times, really. The one thing that really annoys me about some brits is their consistent patriotism which stops them from appreciating or even not minding other countries (To all Brits, America really isn't a bad place. I'm not even a part American, and I love the damn place. If you need something to hate, then hate on anything but another country.)

90-94% European (Depending on what 'mixed' means (mixed sweets maybe?))

In fact I just realised. Genetically I'm 12.5% Native Kiwi (New-Zealand) and a few %'s Scandinavian. So at most I'm 85% European and you're at least 90% European. You're more European than me, damn you for coming to my native lands of New-Zealand and repopulating it with your own people, and putting flipping sheep everywhere! Or something! I've never actually been!

It seems like you have had a pretty unlucky experience, unless you came here already wanting to dislike the place. though it seems that people up and down the country have just seen that your native American heretige as a button to puch and wind you upand to get a rise out of you, if you were short they would have got to you about that. and i dont honestly belive that most people you met were doing it maliciusly.

also not visiting the north was a mistake we are a much friendlier bunch up here

I dont hate Britain because and Englishman is my ancestor. The person said a native american knocked up a women so i'm trying to make myself more them I am without any prior knowledge of my situation. I clarified.

I dont like the way the OP white washed Britain to look good. and I dont like (most) British people until they can prove they are decent from my livings in the UK where i was treated as scum and something of a side show freak.

Okay, haven't really read the thread but thought I'd chime in, I'm 25 [whatever relevance that has], I'm English but but I've got blood from all over the place, point is I don't see any reason for people to be proud of what is essentially hereditary geography.

Only Brit by paper, and living here for a while... PS: there's no option for Not brit and over 25 years of age.. and below 25 years is repeated.

However, I don't see the point in being proud for the endeavors of the ancestors of your nation. Every generation is a new country. If you want to be proud of your country, then do something that people can be proud of.

Personally, I just see national pride as a way of controlling the masses.

You was not treated like scum. What i have gathered from your earlier post was that you went around UK telling everyone you meet you were a native american. You did not get the reaction you wanted to like, i.e WOW you are so cool. But instead no one cared. So you decided instead to class us as arrogant.
