A lot of the time I go in third person because the animation (hell, the entire game) looks really good and since I don't fast travel, I have no choice but to go in third person on my horse. When shooting down more than one enemy though, I use first person because it's more precise.

I was reading that and in my mind it said, "I don't often fight in first person, but when I do I kill dragons," or something similar.

I use 1st for scoping puzzles and scavenging for treasure, but I switch to 3rd for overworld exploration and combat.

I'm a 2-handed specialist and those charged swings really need a 360 view in order to be effective - that three second delay between holding down the Mouse key and actually landing the blow needs more management than you'd think. :p

Actually, it's safer sometimes to go in 3rd person when fighting a dragon on the ground. For example, if you're fighting in a tower, and you happen to be chopping it's head of, you can climb it's head and when the dragon lifts off, it rockets you into the sky and then you die from fall damage. But general, I prefer to battle dragons in 3rd, because I can see all of them, and not just the part that I'm hitting.

I play in first person all the time, except for when I want to gaze in awe at how badass my character looks.
same here, really. if i want to see how cool my new armour looks, for example, i'll flick to third person.
and if there's some enemy nearby i can't see and i'm wandering out in the open. just so i don't get jumped...
plus there's the finisher dealies which go 3rd person.

I really love the third-person camera and animations this time around, they're huge improvements over Bethesda's previous games. I occasionally go into first-person for firing arrows (for instance, I had to essentially snipe an undead mini-boss who spawned after I killed a dragon because he floated off the edge of the cliff and down onto a steep slope) but I've found that the third-person camera works pretty well for all of the combat, even as a warrior-mage mix.

Neat. But I was basically referencing the Dos Equis guy, The Most Interesting Man in the World.

If I do wind up getting the game (looking likely, though not for awhile yet), I'll be playing it mostly in third-person. A first-person 60-degree field of view is incredibly limiting for an RPG, there's just no available analog for peripheral vision or feeling your body positioning in a first person view... so I'll play it the way I play the new Fallout titles: third person most of the time, first person for detailed searching of a small area, precise shooting, or cramped places where the camera goes wonky. The switch is just a middle-click away, and the zoom is on that very same button.

Seeing as I'm playing the game at a resolution of 800x600 with everything on low settings I try and play in third person as much as possible as it looks slightly better that way.

First, the difference being the immersion, playing in 3rd feels like, its my character doing something, playing in 1st feels like its me doing something.

(something usually being throwing fireballs left and right ^^)
