Charmander, who becomes Charizard. Who honestly wouldn't want a fire breathing dragon?
cause he sucked against onyx and starmie and about 80 percent of the gyms. though charizard is cool
You can also use Butterfree for the first gym (Confusion rapes the weak special stats on Geodude and Onyx), and Bellsprout/Oddish for the second gym. Vine Whip and Absorb, respectively, are very very powerful against the water types in Misty's gym.

Charizard is the coolest and probably the most useful overall, even if Arcanine is statistically a better fire type. Venusaur has the best stats, but doesn't really learn any great moves in R/B/Y. Blastoise is outclassed in every single way by Cloyster, and to a lesser extent Slowbro and Starmie.
I think you mean Moltres and not Arcanine , Arcanine was the ice type:p

For me it's squirtle. The only thing that would of made him more awesome would be if he had his shades.
But... Jesus still loves you!
Ouch, no he's right about Arcanine. You're thinking about Articuno, Arcanine is Growlithe evolved. OH YEAH!

sorry for the double post, had to correct him

I just got pwned:p Now I will go cry in the corner at my fail:/

Charizard will always be my favorite. A fire shooting, flying giant dragon lizard of doom! But Blastoise is always pretty cool :]

Cyndaquil... Because you cannot deny that an adorable flaming hedgehog that evolves into an adorable, badass badger that can turn itself into a rolling fireball is completely epic. Also, because Gen 2 is completely better than Gen 1 in almost every aspect.
What did I just say about Gen 2? There was no Gen 2.

Move along, Sir.
Gen two was the best series. Gold/Silver are the best games, you get 2 worlds! And they nailed the gameplay.

By far Bulbasaur was the best, with him you had the advantage against the first two gym leaders from the start.

Bulbasaur.

It's the cutest, most type-efficient in the early game, and he can be rolled on INT checks.

I have a habit of picking out my favorite for each generation and sticking with it. I go...

Bulbasaur, Totodile, Mudkip, Turtwig.

It's all eccentric preference, really.
Same...
So I herd u liek Mudkipz

Charmander because by the time you get to the Elite Four, Charizard is the only one you'd really want in your 6, though chances are you'll still have your starter in there, for sentimental reasons.

I choose Squirtle, because the first Gym is easy, and he's still good later on (and there's lots of water moves, and bugger all grass moves) which is why I don't like Bulbasaur even he is good against the first 3 gym leaders. Charmanders an easy second, but I just love Squirtle too much.

I took a lot of flak at my school for choosing Bulbasaur. Every one though he was dumb, mainly because his evolved form wasn't art for either version. Stupid that is, until every one tried getting past the first three gyms :p

Squirtle. because the water just pwn the rock-type gym that you face first and by the time you reach the second, starting pokemon won't matter anymore.

Hey, I never claimed I played them the easy way.

For me it's always been fire types... well except I started on yellow so I got Pikachu (no pikachu should never be considered, he was a waste of time, and if you saw the show and had aspired to be just like Ash and never evolve it you quickly regretted it and went and found a shiny yellow rock) but Charizard and every subsequent fire starter (twisted fire starter) has endeared itself to me greatly.

It's not like it's hard to get a grass pokemon before the first gym (or something with a nice double kick *cough* nidoran *cough*).

Charmander, because he turns into Charizard who can learn fly which is more useful than surf or cut.
