Poll: What do you think of the WiiU now?

Nintendo fans are feeling rather vindicated right now, it seems. I'll admit it, Nintendo won E3 this year. Sony and Microsoft were both rather dull, and most of the games were previously announced titles. It was nothing like last year, I'm afraid, in which Sony, frankly, delivered the greatest E3 of all time (for me).

The only title that really excited me was the new Zelda. Or perhaps I should say, it peaked my interest for the first time in almost two generations. However, since it was the only exclusive from any console that interested me, I give it to Nintendo. Hyrule Warriors and Smash Brothers also caught my interest. Unfortunately, this is a step in the right direction, not enough to actually win me over. They would have to deliver one of the best Metroids of all time on top of a Fire Emblem that equals Awakening in quality. I they start really pouring out quality hits, I could see myself buying a WiiU in a few years, once the price drops. After I purchase a PS4, of course.

I really enjoy my WiiU. I picked one up not long after last year's E3. To be honest, I find myself getting more excited for Nintendo games these days than a lot of others (the only thing that has me more pumped is Witcher 3 - cause fucking WOW!). Particularly looking forward to Hyrule Warriors and the new (OPEN WORLD!!) Zelda. Oh and Bayonetta 2. And Mario Party 10 (myself and a few friends have a long history of all night 50 turn Mario Party games)! Splatoon also looks really neat but I don't think my shitty Australian internet connection will make it too fun.

I'll give you that I hope that the open world Zelda doesn't fall short of the showing it just demonstrated (though I didn't know emulation could even be talked about in public without mod interference). But nothing else looked interesting at all?

The Wiiu Exclusive Devil's Third, brought to you by the guy who made the good Ninja Gaidens? Multiplayer Hyrule Warriors gave a lot of info a lot of people knew nothing about: Multiplayer alone, not to mention Zelda or Midna being playable. Xenoblade Chronicles was dull looking? Splatoon not interesting either? Miyamoto and his secret black projects?

Eh, I guess I'm just too easy to impress.

My mistake; I thought I worded my post as "The only new announcements I looked at that actually show promise," since saying there were absolutely no promising announced Wii U games would be unfair without me having watched every single trailer. As it happens, every game you just mentioned were ones I didn't look at apart from the new Hyrule Warriors trailer (and in its case, the gameplay difference between hack-and-slashing dozens of enemies and doing so while someone next to you does the exact same thing is negligible). After having watched the trailers for the rest of the games, Splatoon has appealing aesthetics that, after you've played fifty matches, will no longer distract from the fact that, apart from being able to disappear into the paint, the gameplay appears to be fairly basic and standard multiplayer third-person shooting underneath. Xenoblade Chronicles X apparently didn't consider showing any gameplay whatsoever a priority, just cutscene footage and voiceovers talking about things that no one who didn't play Xenoblade Chronicles will understand, so who knows what to expect there. But I will say that Devil's Third looks like it may have pulled off being able to quickly and easily switch between first-person shooting and third-person action and keeping things sufficiently high octane and fast-paced that both types of gameplay seem equally enjoyable and useful (though there remains the possibility, particularly where the story is concerned, that the end result will just end up being exhausting).

If a few of these were out for my system of choice I'd really give them a stronger look, but they're not... soooo. Maybe in 5 years or so when the price has been halfed or something and I've worked through my backlog.

Lots of interesting looking stuff, but not the something new that I'm personally looking for, I'm sure its lit a much needed fire under the Wii-U's butt for Nintendo fans, been out for almost two years years now, 'bout time it finally GOT something at least.

If the bring out a solid looking Metroid game then I might give it a a third look. I've grown jaded with age, and now grasp onto my wallet for dear life.

So in closing; software looks incising, but not enough for a new console.

Yeah, I can't say it impresses me. I couldn't care less about the Nintendo staples, and aside from that there is maybe one game I've seen for it that interests me. And even that couldn't get me to buy the console. I suspect that the Wii U will be just like every other Nintendo console for me. A system that has a few games that interest me, but not worth my monetary investment in the system for them.

I think the same of it now as I did before.

Yeah, I realized this way back when I was talking to a coworker about it. Specifically, how the Wii U is not an add on to the Wii, but a whole other console (he didn't know that). Then, he asked me a question. "What does it look like?"

I admit that I was stumped. I had no idea what the console looked like. I couldn't even describe it in vague terms or even the color. And even now, I barely know what it looks like. I just know I saw it once and that it reminded me of a car radio with a CD player. Not even sure if I could tell the difference between the Wii and Wii U.

I would've clicked that. Sure the wiiu has a lot of good Nintendo games on the way so if you like Nintendo games, you're all set.

I like Nintendo games (have since the nes) but it's got to get some more (interesting) third party support before I go in. Things like Bayonetta 2 or how the DS got GTA Chinatown Wars. Maybe they could get a Borderlands, a Fallout game, or (put that tablet to good use and) get a kickass RTS like a Dawn of War; some sort of franchise I'm interested in.

That said, I'd rather have a WiiU than a ps4 or Xbone. At least I wont have to pay a monthly fee for multiplayer and not ALL of the WiiU's multiplayer is done online.

It hasn't change anywhere for me.
I loved it before E3 and still do, the thing I am most happy about is that there is a stream of games and not every games coming out at once. So we'll have the games come out with small time gaps which is just perfect for me.

And if I get some time were I am bored I just hop into the Eshop and get an old RPG or something, decided to try Breath of Fire II a month ago and damn it's good! Golden Sun also peaked my interest so that might be next on the old school to play list. Nothing wrong in good RPGs you get for 7?!

As you said Splatoon seems like a really nice game and another title we at th WiiU Online Multiplayer user group should get together and play

Nintendo have always sold their consoles on first and second party merit. Their consoles rarely have much third party support, and if they do, the third party games never really sell very well.

Who's talking about porting over? I agree, that was part of their problem. I'm talking about new original games from cool franchises like Borderlands and Fallout. I'm not going to buy a Wiiu to replay Borderlands 1 or Fallout 3, but I would definitely get one if it had some weird spinoff like Borderlands 'the next vault' or Fallout 'Motown.' You dig?

I played GTA Chinatown Wars more than any other game on the DS, including Mariokart and Nintendogs put together. If they want more people to have WiiUs they need to embrace the preferences of a larger portion of the gaming community.

However if they really want to just do their own thing, and don't care what I want, I can admire that. This e3 seemed to be exciting for the Nintendo fans who already own a WiiU or were planning on getting one. There's obviously a big enough and loyal enough fanbase that they can get by... but I get the feeling they'd like to move more units.

I feel the same way about the Wii-U as I did about the Wii when they first showed Super Mario Galaxy; Damn that one game (in this case Zelda) looks great! I'm not going to buy an entire system just for that though. It would have to be Resident Evil 4 levels of awesome.

Only the Nintendo games are worth a damn, and the only Nintendo game I give somewhat of a damn about is Zelda. And I doubt that this is going to change anytime soon.

I was sold on Devil's Third, Project Zero V and i'm fairly certain that i would love most of the other games also. Of the three new consoles, the WiiU is the only one that has games that makes me excited, maybe because i'm tired of open world, online and shooters? I love that this machine exist, a console featuring tons of gameplay oriented games with lots of colors and ideas (And VC supported with Gba, GC and Ds titles isn't hurting either). I'm only wondering if they are getting any indie support?

But the most important game is Devil's Third, i love Ninja Gaiden and i really need to get my hands on this one, same goes for Bayonetta 2. Probably not going to buy one anytime soon (I'm not rich), but it's the only next-gen console i consider owning, if it wasn't for WiiU i would go handheld only.

Though i will say that i wished that the From Software game and the Suda51 game were for WiiU, as they are some of the few games that got me excited on the ps4 (so far). I wish they would reach out to From Software to get an exclusive Armored Core game, or something and maybe a replacement for the Wii's No More Heroes?

Was waiting for about 5 games to be released I strongly wanted. Obviously the ones announced today are not out yet, but I have strong bias towards Bayonetta and Kirby. So this will be the first "next-gen" system that I get.

And honestly, it may be the only one I get, now that I've upgraded my PC. Xbox and PS4 only had about three exclusives announced between them that I was interested in (Bloodborn, Sunset Overdrive, and Scalebound).

Well... I feel the same as I did almost a year after it came out... As in, once the Smash Bros WiiU Bundle comes out, you bet your ass I'm getting that shit for Christmas...

They WERE doing it last year. They just severely underestimated how big an impact the jump from SD to HD has on their game development cycles. That's why these games are only coming out now rather than last year.

OT: I bought a Wii U a few months ago because they had a sweet Monster Hunter bundle, and while I hadn't got that much use out of it up until Mario Kart I never regretted my purchase. After Nintendo's presentation... in love.

Though I don't know why I'm telling you this. Nothing's going to change your exceptionally cynical opinion. Hell, I bet if they showed Wii U software that magically cures you from any disease when you turn on the console, you STILL wouldn't be impressed.

...Where'd you get that impression? The same source that told you cynicism is an inherently bad thing? I gave very clear reasons in my second post why only a few of the games displayed (several of which you brought up in defense despite my positive statements about them) caught my interest. And just for the record, the prospect of a new Star Fox does improve my estimation of the Wii U's future lineup; if they'd deigned to show us something from it, my appraisal of Nintendo's presentation would have been more enthusiastic. Perhaps if I walk away with an overall negative impression, then, it's because their presentation was genuinely underwhelming, not because I have some sort of prejudice against the console.

Oh my, that Hyrule Warriors trailer looks amazing. The again I'm a sucker for Dynasty Warriors games in general. Can't say I'm too interested in the rest beyond Mario Kart and Smash Brothers though, unless there's been any news on SMT x Fire Emblem.
I put that I wanted one in the poll but in the end it's going to be a toss up between a Wii U and a PS4 for me, if I ever even buy a current gen console.

The third party ports were generally gimped compared to their Xbox 360 and PS3 cousins. What they need is exclusive third party, not ports.
