Actually, neither of us buys condoms, though we do use them. She is on a Peer Advocacy board, and I am a former president of our university's GSA. So we both interact much with Planned Parenthood and the local reproductive health centers, as well as national safer sex awareness campaigns.

So we pretty much do not ever need to buy them for a good long while. Loving the perks of our positions.

In high school, a woman came and did a sex ed demonstration, and put her whole fist a condom. A standard sized common. I'm going out on a limb and saying a standard condom can accommodate pretty much all penises.

Condoms stretch fine for girth, but not all of them are long enough for well endowed men. There's also thickness of the material to take into account.

I've already pointed out in this thread - just because they CAN stretch to accommodate much larger objects, doesn't not mean that one size will fit all penises in practice.

For starters, regular-sized condoms only unroll to a length of about 7 inches (18 cm). Proper use requires the condom to be unrolled all the way to the base of the penis (no doing so greatly increases the risk of the condom slipping off), which with a regular-sized condom in therefore impossible for roughly 1 in every 10 men.

Secondly, some penises are sufficiently thick that regular-sized condom cannot be comfortably unrolled down the entire length. Furthermore, the more the condom stretches, the more likely it is to break - remember, it's not enough for the condom to simply accommodate the penis inside it, it must also hold up under the friction involved in sex.

I have personally seen penises (not my own, lest someone mistake this for a brag post) that are too large for a regular-sized condom, and must therefore use large condoms. Reality trumps theory.

I disagree, sir. I had to switch from regulars to magnums because the regulars were choking my unit to the point to where I would lose, and be unable to regain my erection. For me, regulars are tight to the point of being almost painful. Once I switched, it was like day and night; they were much more comfortable.

Good for you and your large penis, I guess? I know you are going to argue against it and realistically it doesn't matter as long as the things don't slip off, but the latex can actually stretch a lot before it's stretch resistance should get anywhere close to the point it bothers most people. So either your penis is unrealistically large, you have a mild sensitivity to the lubricant in whatever regular sized condoms you tried before switching, you have erection troubles and any odd sensations present problems, or it is all in your head.

Possibly a combination of factors.

Either way, as I said. It doesn't matter as long as it doesn't slip off. Besides if you had read a little more of the thread I would have already clarified that it wasn't like I didn't believe there where not people that had difficulties with regular condoms, only that they where extremely few and far between. Not the norm in any way.

Mind if I ask about your response to the people showing videos of condoms stretching to the size of legs? I'm not throwing doubt about your penis size (because how the hell would I know?) but I do think Magnum condoms promote the idea that condoms have certain set sizes, but I've personally put a 'regular' condom on my arm without much stretching.

They can actually stretch quite a bit more than that, a Trojan Magnum can fill with enough water to fill a bath tub.

In my case, its neither. We dont really want to tempt fate before we are married so we are not having sex until we are married. Plus both of us believe in only have sex to have children, so theres that.

Not like it would make much of a difference anyway. The women in her family seem to have some sort of...I just call it a curse, where NO BIRTH CONTROL WORKS. Condom, The Pill, both at the same time, 70% of the women in her family have gotten pregnant while on Birth Control. Again, since I dont know if my GF is in the 30% minority, Rather not tempt fate.

Respect the beliefs, but when you are married, there are more options than just the pill and condoms. There the Implanon, the implant that goes in the arm and lasts for 3 years and the Mirena an IUD that gets inserted in the uterus, requires anesthetic if there haven't had a baby, but lasts for 5 years and completely removes the woman's period so it's cheaper than abstinence, as they don't have to buy tampons/pads. These are far more effective and long lasting.

Well, I'm not here to to talk about the size of my unit; because in the end, it's irrelevant. I was only saying that regular condoms HURT, and magnums don't. I think it has more to do with the remaining latex at the ring which ends up at the base; more so than anything else. For my lifestyle, condoms are a requirement, not an option; and I'm not going to be one of those a-holes that says "baby, condoms hurt, so I don't wear them"...hell no. I made the switch, and they don't hurt now...simple logic if you ask me. The fact that they're named "magnums" or "large" has nothing to do with me. Condoms could have come in "flower" and "rainbow" sizes, and I would still wear the one of the two that didn't make me wince. And you're absolutely right, Manaman, as long as it doesn't fall off, the name on the box doesn't matter. ;-)

People with penises (including strap-ons) should buy condoms as people with ovaries are usually buying the pill. Share the burden and all that.

That said, if you are a person who is generally receiving penises, you should also buy condoms (either the female condom variety or the male condom variety) in case your partner doesn't have any.

Dental Dams. Hm...I have a bunch...since they are more exotic and less used, I'd say the person who is most concerned about latex barriers while giving or receiving vaginal oral sex should buy them...but ideally both partners would.

When I had a relationship, I bought the condoms, but only because my ex was too socially inept to face a cashier with a box that essentially proclaims 'I'm having safe sex, I'm a good guy'. In hindsight, what I should have done was refuse sex unless he bought them. Or just refuse sex entirely since I never wanted it anyway u_u

Always carry a few on a night out, my girlfriend is on the pill so we dont use them...which she gets for free as a student. but I reguarly get asked for one in clubs by mates/randoms and so having a few backups is a good idea. condoms may be expensive but kids are REALLY expensive...
