These questiosn always turn into pissing matches but I see your SEALs and SAS and I raise you the sayeret matkal the Israeli special forces, they would chew up and spit out both teams for breakfast.

Also someone poked fun at the Irish special forces earlier and I say to you do not under estimate the Irish ranger wing their training is absolutely brutal less than a quarter on entrants get in.

Someone else said something about IRA being the best guerrilla soldiers of the generation maybe in the past this was true but not anymore the original IRA practically wrote the book on urban guerrilla warfare back in 1914.

I would think Delta Force...

Neither the United States government nor the military officially acknowledges the existence of Delta Force.

That means Delta Force does the most beastly things that can probably result in a few international laws being broken...or that Delta Force is such an embarrassment they want to pretend it never existed.

Where are the Para's?

We may not be "special forces" but we kick arse in every warzone we go in.

(Biased opinion there coming from an ex British Para).

Yeah, pretty annoyed you left the Australian SAS off that list.
Sorry. There were only 8 options and I was typing it quickly. I also left off the Israeli SF too.

The American Navy, the British SAS,and the Russian Spetsnaz are pretty much the best out there.
Also,there's the French Legion,if you're into that.

Im going to vote for the SAS as they practically wrote the rulebook on special forces operations. although they are getting matched more and more by Delta as the US has a great deal more funding to aid in operations.

also in terms of American forces technically the SEALs cant be better than Delta because because the SEALs are a Tier 2 force as oppsoed to Dela which is Tier 1. (im also quite sure that the Rangers are Tier 2 as well but dont hold me to that)

Oh god... this thread is not going to end well. I'm bracing myself for the nationalistic dick-measuring contest.

That said, I guess I'll join in.

U.S. Army Rangers. If for no other reason than because of this:

My vote goes to Thessia for this one.
They probably take the cake, though.

I was just watching a documentary on the Discovery Channel about the US Navy SEAL team 6. Those were the guys that took out Bin Laden.

Anyway, I knew the SEALs were elite, but the documentary showed clearly that they are (especially team 6) are the badasses TO THE badasses. I've long held that either Delta Force or the SEALs are the kings followed by the other and then by units like the SAS and GSG9 but that Documentary was pretty clear on who wins in the US military.

I understand that everyone wants to have the best so who do you think is the king military unit of badasses and why?

I going to put up a poll listing all of the SpecOps units I can think of so please don't be offended if yous in not on it.
royal marines aren't special operations forces. they are light assault infantry specialising in mountain and amphibious operations. they are considered elite infantry.

and OT proably the UK, although the US has better tech

one correction: GSG9 are counter terrorist federal police (more like SWAT), not military. they were created because the military cant deploy in germany and the police dont have the right equipment. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_massacre] they do go on missions with the SAS and probably the other groups from time to time, so the effort might only be 75% down to one group when they operate.
i would say the Israelis do, or at least are on equal footing with the SEALs, given that they're raised in a warzone, are trained to fight from a young age and that they train the Navy SEALs in some forms of combat (probably desert guerrilla warfare and Krav Maga, idk.)
If you are looking for german military special forces, go no further than the KSK (Kommando Spezialkräfte) [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kommando_Spezialkräfte]. We also got something SEALS like, the Kampfschwimmer [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kampfschwimmer] (literal translation: combat divers).

Also, we got the Fallschirmjäger [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallschirmjäger] (paratroopers) and Gebirgsjäger [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebirgsjäger] (mountain infantry).

Heh, the most elite military unit isn't even Special Forces.

The Gurkhas have the most grueling recruitment and training regime of any military unit. You don't get in unless you are a superman to begin with, and then you start three years of intense training with no leave.

Those special forces units may be better equipped and even better trained but if you gave them each a knife and nothing else and dropped them in hostile territory I'm sure most would walk out by themselves. The Gurkha wouldn't, he would stay and kill his enemies until he was killed himself. As it has been said "If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or is a Gurkha".

Also SASR.

Royal Australian Navy Divers.

Imagine the special boat service, who are better than the seals, by the way, except they also do the work of mine clearance divers.

More athletic than olympic athletes, bomb disposal experts, as well as being special forces.

Hyper professional.
