It depends on what their mission is. If I want a good sized group of troops that can generally fuck shit up I would choose the US Army Rangers, Spetznaz and Royal Marines as being about on par. If I want to run a Counter-Terror Op Ill send in the SAS, GSG9, or Delta. If I want to extract my guys from behind enemy lines Ill send in the US Air Force Pararescue. If I want to open the door to bring in more guys to a remote spot I want some Combat Control. If I want to run a hit and run OP who better than the SEALs?

Basically it all depends on what I want done, they are called Special Forces for a reason. Some call their members living weapons, and every situation has a weapon that is best suited for dealing with it.
This. I did vote for the SEALs in the poll because they're awesome, but all of these teams kick ass at whatever they do best.

Im going to vote for the SAS as they practically wrote the rulebook on special forces operations. although they are getting matched more and more by Delta as the US has a great deal more funding to aid in operations.

also in terms of American forces technically the SEALs cant be better than Delta because because the SEALs are a Tier 2 force as oppsoed to Dela which is Tier 1. (im also quite sure that the Rangers are Tier 2 as well but dont hold me to that)

The Cap
The SEAL's are Tier 1.
Nope. DEVGRU is Tier 1, SEALS are Tier 2. The only Tier 1 assets the US has is DELTA and DEVGRU.

Tier 2 includes SEALS and Army Rangers. That's why I get irritated about all of the SEALs misinformation that gets thrown around. SEALs didn't snipe the pirates, DEVGRU did. SEALs didn't take out bin Laden, DEVGRU did.
Then why do all the news people say it was "SEAL" Team 6?

No sarcasm, just curious.

Being an Australian, I'll have to go with the SASR however we can't really tell who's the better unit. I mean, if you make a battlefield and then just threw them in there, every time you do it you'd just get a different result. Most units are also probably trained to approx. the same level but they also are being trained to focus on differing areas of expertise and are also likely to react to situations in differing ways. Also:

I going to put up a poll listing all of the SpecOps units I can think of so please don't be offended if yous in not on it.
With all due respect, although the poll can't have all of them & I'm not particularly offended by it, you did miss out on the SASR, the Japanese SFG (Despite being restricted to Japan, they are classified as a SF group and have been trained by 1st SFOD-D personnel) and the French Foreign Legion.

DEVGRU. I know, they are all SEALs, but there is a distinct difference between a SEAL and a member of DEVGRU. It's like the difference between an ARMY Ranger and a member of DELTA.

Who cares? All of them are putting their lives on the line for their cause, why do we have to have a pissing contest on which one is the "best"?

British SAS. Why? If you look at their history, how they were founded and what they've actually been up to since they were created, you'd know it takes a special sort of person to do any of those things. The SAS recruit badasses and train them to be even bigger badasses.

Unless you wind up in one of the most elite units in the world, you'll never know it exists. The Spetsnaz used to be an exception, until the public became aware of their existence.
The only ones I'm aware of in US Military circles aren't really known by one particular name. "Secret Squirrels" is the mocking name I heard, but I did know a few men who joined them... who were removed from ordinary US Military networks shortly thereafter. Not sure if any of 'em kept their names, lived, or what... but I do know that Delta Force guys and SEALs are at least still the same person to society any time they're not on duty. "Secret Squirrels", as I know them, don't. I've only ever seen the aftermath of what they do, and I've known people who became part of them... but I know that they make the rest of our special forces look like parade-ground garrison soldiers.
Good man, there are names everything from NSA (No such Organization) to the NVA (North Virginian Army) to GOD (horrible joke, I'm aware). They exist in the nebulous realm between special forces and the CIA. Not that I know anything on the topic... but, no. You are no longer John Smith from NYC once you've finished your career.

OT: I voted Delta simply because they're the closest to the real experts at killing people and breaking things that are either known or still exist.

If I'm allowed to go with past organizations than the Rhodesian Selous Scouts.

SEAL team 6's official name is Special Naval Warfare Development Group or DEVGRU. Because they are still a SEAL team, they are known as SEAL tEam 6.

But he's correct, The seals are Tier 2 and DEVGRU is Tier 1.

Gotta give credit to the IDF. Well trained and they've shown in about four wars that they can take on some pretty big fish. When you look at it, they CAN'T lose a war, or else they lose everything. With that much riding on your shoulders, you'd be making a big mistake not to be the best.

Also Israel again since the Mossad can pull off some incredibly difficult missions and succeed.

Uh... that's what all SF groups do. DEVGRU members are cherry-picked from the SEALS, DELTA members are mostly cherry picked from the Rangers, but often come from other walks of life. DELTA like to recruit crazy motherfuckers. The list goes on, but all are badasses before joining an SF group, and their badassery increases by an order of magnitude or so.

In America, from experience, I'd say CAG (Combat Applications Group, AKA Delta Force). CAG soldiers are generally selected from special ops units across all branches (including SEAL) and they function in a very different manner than most special ops units. SEAL team 6 in particular would probably be up there with them.

Outside of America, I'd probably say the Israelis (forget the name) or the Indians (again, forget the name). I know the Indians win the competitions enough, at least.

Also, just as an aside, the Republic of Korea has an all female special forces unit. I forget the actual name, but we called them Black Widows. They were pretty fucking awesome, we actually got to meet a couple of them on a jump while I was over there. Also, they are hot.

Edit: This is not a personal photograph, just one I found on the internet.

I think the Irish Army in general is pretty good especially since we are a peace keeper force. Our troops have training only specialised forces in other armies get I can't remember off hand what exactly for. In the Spec ops only 15% get in or something like and I don't know how that matches up to other known Spec Ops forces although no woman has passed the Spec Op test.

Probably Russian or Chinese, why? Because they can take a child and start trainig it when it is like 2 yers old, hell they can even use genetic engennering to create a super soldier. USA or England can not start training ther spec ops befor the age of 16 (maybe?) how do you think is the best spec ops the person how haw trained for it in 40% of there life or the one how have trained in 90% of there life?( and they are the same age).

The ones that don't get press or fancy names on paper or even real names anyone would know. The ones that do the really nasty terrible things that never get explained in the media or declassified ever because it never happened on paper.
