I graduated last year and I left home straight away. I had to if I wanted to go to a University. Although they are helping with the rent so I'm not independent yet.

I still live with my mother, but she is in the process of finding a new house and plans on just giving me our old one so I'm not going anywhere.

In an early entrance program at a small liberal arts college, haven't really got my diploma yet.

The dorms at my school are about $14,000, living at home is considerably cheaper.

I'm 17.

I'm at university, my final year. I do not want to move back with my parents.

Not only does it feel like a step back in life, but the area my parents live in has stupidly low employment. That said, I currently have no job and cannot drive. Thankfully, I have three months after I graduate to find a job close to where I am now so I can afford a rented house once more...unfortunately I'm not sure if anyone I currently know will want to live with me due to everyone going different directions.

So, I may end up with my parents again, trying to find work elsewhere so I can save up, learn to drive, get the crap out of that unemployment black-hole and actually find a rented place.

Ugh...excuse me while I lay down and have a minor heart-attack...

Technically, yes. But officially I'm only "visiting", long term, because I don't have a place of my own yet (Also, no point getting a place if I don't know yet where I'm going to be going to uni yet)

I'm 22 and graduated college and still live with my parents... Yes, it is perfectly fine to call me a loser...

Actually I help a lot around the house and with grocery shopping, etc. I want to move out but can't because I can't seem to land a job. I guess I could sort of blame the economy on this one.
well, depends on what you graduated, sort of. what did you study?

I'm 25 and live in my mother's basement.

When I was 19, I moved out of my mother's house and into my own apartment. I could barely afford it with the job I had so I dropped out of high school and got my GED so I could get a better one. When my room mates moved out, I had to take another job to pay all my bills. I was thinking about going back to school but couldn't find the time. Eventually, I had to throw in the towel because it wasn't working out for me. So at 24, I moved back home with my mother and started college.

I am suppose to graduate in 6 months. Hopefully than I can support myself.

All my friends do... and they're not gamer nerds... in fact most people I know do. Almost all of them do. You sure this counts as a nerd stereotype in Melbourne, Australia? Because apparently not.

I'm 19.
When I went to university I basically had the choice between staying in my home town and taking the train for like 40 minutes into town every day and back, or moving away and walking 5 or 10 minutes to class and being able to not be nagged by my dad when he rages.

I live in another city but stay with my parents during summer outside the academic year so far (here for a few months now).

No, Infact I moved out before I graduated, back when I was 15 actually... Was really hard but I managed. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else doing the same though.

18 graduated high school when I was 17 and still living with my parents. And does this really count as a stereotype? I live in Holland and only 5-6 out of 25 of my class are living on their own. It is perfectly normal to do so here even in college.

Just finished my second year studying computer systems engineering and still live with my parents.

Uni is a 40 min bus ride and rent prices are too much to afford on a part time job. I could possibly find somewhere affordable if I was very lucky but it wouldn't be any more convenient to uni than my parents' house. I do have some friends that live in a flat but they got a good deal because the house belongs to one guys parents and all of the other guys there get a student allowance from the government because their parents earn below a certain threshold. My parents earn too much so its harder for me to earn money.

My parents understand the condition of the economy and high property prices mean it's not viable for me to move out. Lucky for me I was able to get into a field of study that produces instantly employable graduates. I also have to complete 800 hours of practical engineering work experience for my degree which will likely end up as a graduate job offer.

To be honest it's not such a stereotype, it's more nobody can get a job after university. The people limited to living with their parents till mid twenties is no longer a basement dweller thing but applies to all.

Well I'm in the yes pile but God damit it's only been 5 days since I graduated give me some breathing space!

To the OP: The other thing you have to remember is that when those nerd steoreotypes where coined it was much easier to just move out of home. I don't know about other places but living in Melbourne (big city in Australia) renting is bloody expensive and a new home for a fresh secondary school graduate is almost unheard of unless you've got like a trust fund or something. So most people live at home now even if they aren't typical nerds. Hell my brother (19) and sister (21) both still live at home and they are not even close to being nerds.

PS: Woot love being finished school!!!! :D
