I strongly believe the guy should pay, I get so embarrassed if I'm out with a girl and can't afford to cover what we get..

On the first dates everyone pays what he/she buys, simple as that, i refuse to pay a girl for going on a date with me, hookers would be cheaper. I might get a round of drinks ,but wouldnt refuse to accept her doing the same. When the dating is on for longer time, the one who has the money pays. If i'm broke and she still wants to go to the cinema, she pays, if i want to got to a club and she has not much money left, i pay. Sometime it all evens out.

It goes both ways. On a first and maybe second date the guy, but the girl by that point should start picking up the tab afterwards. That way they take turns paying. Sorry ladies gender equality killed chivalry.

Far too many girls have the same interests as a prostitute when selecting a partner.

He pays, so i dont care. First date is safe, even if hes a perfect gentleman i can get out with a nice meal, a lot of drinks and some making out max. Good deal to me.

Isn't it the one who asks someone out for a date who pays?

Maybe it's just me, but if someone asked me out on a date, and I say yes, they can't then force me to pay for it all.

depends on the situation really, personally I probably wouldn't even ask a girl out if I didn't know I had plenty of cash to cover everything.

But my ex wouldn't let me pay for anything she considered it demeaning (bit of a feminist I guess ;D)
even after our first date when I insisted on paying she posted £30 though the door a couple of days later lol

it depends on the situation but on a first date, at least if you are a guy and like the rest of us you think with your balls, then expect to pay if you don't need to then bonus.

Depends on what grounds you've based your relationship.

So far it's been half half pretty much always for me :). I never expected girls to be so courteous.

Whenever I can, I pay for my girlfriend. She feels bad, but I'd feel awful if I didn't. I dunno why though,'cos my parents were never like this. It's just ingrained in my head that the guy pays. *shrug*

It's noones job to pay on the date, you get up and run at the end of a meal obviously!

but on a more serious note, yeah it doesn't matter, it's not the guys job the shove his cash around at the end of a meal, and it's not the girls job to expect the guy to pay.

What you do, if your a guy, is at the end of the meal say, "ill get this one, you can get the next," they chuck in a joke about going to a super expensive resturant next time.

but when you do actually go out next let the girl pay, and if she expects you to pay, in a jokey but serious way tell her its her turn to get the bill becasue you got it last time.

While some guys may think their date loves it when they get the bill, it's not actually true, girls don't like guys who just push their money in wherever possible, and guys, if your on a date with a girl who expects you to pay, get up and walk out of the resturant, leaving her alone so she can either get the bill herself or run out after you without paying.

If the girl is a ***** that's used to getting her way then she'll be super angry at you and might not want to see you again, but if not then more than likely she'll get the picture and like you MORE for doing it ;)

Sorry, what?
Where did that conclusion come from?
Observation. Perhaps it varies according to age and location. There may be much more variation by age than location, but that is why I said girls and not women.

Even still, you think that a good proportion of girls pick their partners based on their money alone? That's incredibly cynical.

That's a little harsh.

I view it more as collateral over an investment of time. The courter is laying out collateral for the opportunity to court. If the person being courted is not impressed by the courter she/he recoups their investment of time somewhat at the expense of the courter.

If a person is asked out and is vastly disappointed their consolation prize is not having to pay for the evening.

Start dutch...go from there. No one feels owed anything, no one feels responsible...just pay for what you ordered and it relieves a lot of stress from the thing. Also, talk about how the bill is going to go down BEFORE you get to the restaurant. It's awkward to go to a nice restaurant, have the other person order something MUCH more expensive...and then having them excuse themselves to the bathroom for a half an hour until the bill comes.

I pay if i insist on going somewhere nice...he pays if he just wants a burger and I don't dig it. We trade off now depending on who picked the joint.

I'd say the guy even though the girl can offer to pay. But once you get to know each other, and are probably in a relationship, either one can pay. It's only fair.
