People only know them because of guitar hero. That's why I hate them. Seriously, would you know Dragonforce if it weren't for Guitar Hero???

Personally I knew them before they were in GH. Guess I got one of their albums a couple of years before I played GH at a friends and went: 'Hey, I know them. Lemme try. Perhaps I can do their song better than the damn Slayer one.' For some fucked up reason I actually could.

As for Dragon Force: I don't hate them but I do find then pretty bland and uninteresting. If I want to listen to power metal I'll most likely put on some Hammerfall or Manowar or something entirely different.

I do think that people take Dragon Force to seriously though. They are a stereotype and should be seen as such. I find them to be like a bad action movie: not good by any means but also not bad as such. Goes well with a hangover and a need for mindless entertainment.

Lets see, they are ok.
I like songs that are worded well and have meaning behind them.
I also like songs that get better the more you listen and realize the words.
And, i like songs with the main instrument backing these two up.

Unfortunately, Dragonforce are inconsistent with their design of music, slopping words together that dont fit the music. With the words being quite.... cliched. Hence the reason i prefer rise against, meaningful and fitting.
But, of course, i like to have some kind of techno and power metal for thoughtless FPS's or close RTS's (mixed with my traditional mix)

I actually like Dragonforce, but than again, I'm a sucker for an insanely fast guitar solo in a song about war.

HELLO? DIO? AXEL RUDI PELL? JOURNEY? (wait, what?) IRON MAIDEN? HELLOWEEN? DREAM THEATER? REMEMBER THESE GUYS? come on people, they rocked! where did the golden years go? it is up to Dragonforce to reclaim those lost years, i wish they would do a much better fucking job about it though.
there are two lead guitarists because their solos are too complex to do alone, Sam and Herman Lee (asian dude with seriously long hair, wtf?), and they both can "shred"

*snip*
Emphasis mine.

I would argue that Iron Maiden still rocks. At least they did last summer when I went to a concert with them again. And it would be silly to claim that DF in any way are up to the standards of Dio and Maiden. And the golden years are called the 80's.
Iron Maiden also have a shit load of guitar players but I think they manage to take advantage of it and make memorable music.

Also: Journey?! For real? :)

Dragon this, dragon that, dragons all over the place. I've had enough of them a long time ago. Everyone and everything that has dragon in its name gets automatic hate from me. Fucking dragons.

With that said though, i kind of like the music in question. Sounds a bit like classic metal.

I personally dont mind the repetition, like AC/DC, people say their music never changes it always sounds the same. I see that as consistency, theyre good at what they do and it sounds awesome. theres nothing more annoying than a band you used to love trying something new, changing their style a bit and sucking
as for dragonforce, huge amounts of talent there, and their music has an intensity you can feel, that comes through hard and fast. thats a rare quality these days

I used to listen to them alot, but nowadays i tend to listen to other music. Still, Disciples of Babylon and The Last journey Home were my favourites from them.

Repetitive and predictable chords make Dragonforce a very very dull band.
This.

Also, the lyrics are laughably bad, even for a cheesy power metal band.

They're just boring. The constant guitar-mashing isn't even impressive, because after a while it just gets very annoying, very fast.

I can see the talent there, in the band (save for the singer), I really can.. But the music itself is painful to listen to after about a minute.

All are welcome to opinion, including those that disagree with mine. I offer tolerance to both sides in the form of "listen to more music, and decide if you really like what you like." If you like Dragonforce, that's fine - but there is a vast wealth of metal out there that might just change your mind. If you don't like Dragonforce, listen to something you do like and learn that bitching won't make it go away.
I guess I can understand that...actually, no, I don't. I understand and agree with preaching tolerance of the tastes of others, but the idea of not enjoying something any longer simply because there's something better out there is something I have trouble agreeing with. Tastes can change over time with exposure, of course, but your argument seems the equivalent of arguing that because I enjoy Soul Calibur most of Namco games, I should stop playing Tekken.

I suspect you're trying to argue more that if I played Wii Tennis I'd stop liking Pong, but either way it's just trading insulting someone else's taste for simple condescending to them (which is a step up from most internet arguments, granted, but still).
Way to plant yourself inside the fanboy box. I'm not suggesting you stop liking Dragonforce at all. I'm suggesting there are bands out there you might like more, which cater more specifically to whatever it is about Dragonforce that you like. If it's the fantasy imagery, try something along those lines. If it's the technical ability, try something like that. The thing about all music, and especially the metal family, is that you can find the individual elements from one band decompiled and recomposed by others. I'm not suggesting Wii Tennis as a replacement for Pong, but rather that Wii Tennis might make you set Pong down for long enough to try something else altogether. You'll probably still pick up Pong every now and again and like it just as much.

I don't think anyone will argue that they don't have retro phases (in games or music) - I'm personally hitting a Rush streak at the moment. I know they aren't the absolute greatest thing ever, even though there are those who would argue against such thinking. They're called fanboys.

In a thread titled "Why the hate for Dragonforce?" you seem to lack an answer for an equally important question: "Why is Dragonforce so special?" / "What does Dragonforce offer that I can't get somewhere else?"

My apologies, then. I misinterpreted "I offer tolerance to both sides in the form of "listen to more music, and decide if you really like what you like." If you like Dragonforce, that's fine - but there is a vast wealth of metal out there that might just change your mind."

But still, calling me a fanboy. Been a while since that happened to me, for anything. Since the tone usually backing that up is "X sucks and since you like them, you're a stupid fanboy" (in different words, typing chatspeak makes me nauseous), hopefully you'll forgive me for feeling insulted.

I'm suggesting there are bands out there you might like more, which cater more specifically to whatever it is about Dragonforce that you like. If it's fantasy imagery, I have also Rhapsody, or Hammerfall, or Blind Guardian. If it's technical ability, I have Nightwish (vocals, at least), Blind Guardian, or...hell I don't know. I'm a clarinet player, the only music with "technical" aspects I could reliably judge would be symphonic metal (I hereby declare "Ghost Love Score" to be one of the best songs ever written). Hell, if it's speed metal, I could probably look up more stuff by Animetal. I just go with whatever I think sounds good.

I don't think anyone will argue that they don't have retro phases (in games or music) - I'm personally hitting a Rush streak at the moment. I know they aren't the absolute greatest thing ever, even though there are those who would argue against such thinking. They're called fanboys.

Except I've already answered that first one:

some random dude on page four said:
I mean, what else can I say? I like driving tempo and lyrics about dragons, warriors, determination, fire, awesomeness, and whatnot. Disciples of Babylon, Soldiers of the Wasteland, Revolution Deathsquad, and Last Journey Home are some of my most favorite songs. In fact, there's only a handful of their songs that I'm not too thrilled with (Storming the Burning Fields, Starfire, half of the Sonic Firestorm album, and especially A Flame For Freedom). Truth be told, I don't really care if their music is sped up in studio (it sounds good like that), and I've never really thought of them as "repetitive." I can see where the accusation comes from, but there's plenty of difference between their songs to tell them apart (even with certain motifs that are repeated, like the similar beginnings of "Prepare for War and "Fury of the Storm").
Why exactly do I need to elaborate beyond that? I'm not trying to convert people to liking the band; that second question isn't important in the slightest to me. All I went for was the thread question ("This is why I like the band, and I've yet to encounter obnoxious fans, so I don't really understand the hate").

They have their heads firmly lodged up their asses and are all the worse for it.
I hate them because they don't make good music. All they do is play really fast music, which quite frankly, I think sounds terrible. Plus being able to play live well is a sign of a good band for me, if they lack this then I have no interest in listening to them.
PS(I changed the quote but I don't know how you put the changes in bold, any help?)
Don't change my quote. If you've got something to say have the courage to say it without putting someone else's name on it.
That's not what I was trying to do, if you actually read the pot then you would have seen that I was trying to put the changes in bold to indicate what you should have said.

Because many folk seem to reason that this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNApV7JJfXk] sounds exactly the same as this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNcX4dFvcHs&]. I'm not seeing it myself, but all the kewl kids are insulting them so maybe my ears are faulty. There's certainly basis for the argument where the Inhuman Rampage album is concerned, but no where else.
Having seen them live I can honestly say that yes, they can in fact play that fast live, it's just that most of their live success came after Through The Fire And The Flames, so when they were on tour for the Inhuman Rampage tour, they were pissed as a skunk, the lot of them, and could barely play a triangle.
There's also the godless over hype of through The Fire And The Flames and Guitar Hero 3 for including it, which led to it being an overplayed pile of toss. Says alot when the part of the gig that you're dreading is the part which you KNOW is going to come.

Basically, it can all be blamed on the Inhuman Rampage album. They tried to move into heavier stuff and couldn't, so it all ended up sounding the same but on account of heavier being a more mainstream image of metal, it become more popular in spite of being their worst album. So then everyone sees their worst stuff and assumes that it's their only stuff. Their good stuff from Valley Of The Damned and Sonic Firestorm is very upbeat for the most part, none of it's trying to be heavy or serious.

Also, they've only JUST started listening to the keyboardist. If you're going for upbeat, techno synthetic shizz, then for the love of god you do NOT ignore the ukranian guy.

Huh. Never thought of it like that.

Still, if it's true, I like half of that album enough that I'm willing to forgive them (I'd possibly be willing to forgive them for more, but I've never listened to Lost Souls in Endless Time). In any case, even if the album were complete shit, I'd be willing to forgive them because of Ultra Beatdown.

the way i see it is, maybe people feel less manly when someone pulls a "JUST TRY TO PULL THIS OE OFF!" move. so they feel the need to shoot them down to feel like less of a prick. but honestly, let's see one of you guys pull off that guitar in real life. any takers? i fucking thought not. no GH3 doesn't count!
I can play considerably faster on paino/keyboard.

And I'm not even considered that good.

I know a lot of people who can play it on the guitar, though.
I learned the intro to Through the Fire and Flames in less than seven minutes.

And I don't even play guitar.

Apparently they can't play their solos live worth shit. I've seen videos over the internet and ones in real life taken by people I know, and it sounds like they're entirely muted.

They're also repetitive and their music has no meaning to it. Or originality.

-Orgasmatron- said:
They've also tricked alot of younger guitar players into thinking it's all about how fast you can play the same four notes over and over.
This.
