They're good, not great. Crazy sick solos for 4 minutes leaves me like okay... where did the song go. They're quite good songs but they seem to overstay their welcome for me. For those of you who think it's just insane power metal, listen to down over a new world, not the same as the rest, probably their best song and incidently their shortest. So overall, a good band but the solo's are too long and crazy.
If it had Axl Rose singing it might be alright.

People only know them because of guitar hero. That's why I hate them. Seriously, would you know Dragonforce if it weren't for Guitar Hero???
Yes.
Would you have listened to them???
Yes.
My point is, the majority of people wouldn't.
My point is, I would have.

Despite all of this, they can just move their fingers quickly, the music they create is horrible, and they really suck live. Plus, nearly every song they've done is about 7 minutes long.

*PS. I hope they die.

I like them, but they are sold under false pretenses, using Esticato to make it sound like they are playing faster than they are, and also use keyboards that sound like guitars... and also, guitar hero kinda made people think it was harder than it is.
What does The Darkness have to do with this!?
Wasn't it Jackie Estacado? I could be wrong, though.
Shush. You're ruining my fun.
Oops, sorry. Carry on, carry on.

Their music is pretty repetitive. All their songs sound similar. That's my main problem with them. The fact that all of their songs are written to show off their talent speed just seems soulless in my opinion.
Also, I've heard that they can't play their music live... I'll reserve full judgement until after I hear them. I love live music; the thought that they can't play live is a bit perplexing.
But as I said, I'll wait til after I hear them live...

The majority of people who like them only like them because of the song on Guitar hero 3. And all their songs sound the same, just mindless noise

i hated them, but i saw them live and i'd be lying if i said they suck.

sure they ain't as good as Helloween (pre deris, I'm a kiske and Kai fanboy!) or Stratavarious or most other 'true' power metal bands, but they're fine live...

you need to remember, 90% of people bad mouthing them heard of them off guitar hero, and only know that one fucking song... and probably badmouth them because either the song was too hard or someone told them they speed up the music ( i lol hard at people who think the keyboard player is playing a guitar as well...)

9% of people who hate them are fans of emo, nu metal, metal core, shit core etc (i dunno what they're all called)

only 1% of people who hate them actually can point out the reason they dislike them is because they use repetitive power chords and simple blues scales, which they seem to play fast in the hopes that no one will notice that's what they're doing.

it's fine to dislike a band, but don't be such a tit to acually look up bands you don't like on youtube just to say 'LOL DIS BAND IS SHIT SLIPKNOT 4 LYF HURR DURR' and stuff to that effect.

oh yeah and guitar hero is shit, i bought GH3 then gave it to a friend shorty after... what garbage, why waste hundreds of hours playing it when you could learn to play actual guitar in less time than that? i mean really, i don't see how it's addictive or fun, but w/e floats your boat, i pretty much just play fps player so i wouldn't know much about games like GH or rock band...

1 more thing: lets not forget, Dragonforce are a speed/power metal band, they are meant to have lyrics about dragons and castles and shit... and the music IS meant to be very fast, although they do speed up their solos in the albums. And yes they can play their stuff live, very well infact, it sounds much better, my only complaint is the vocalist (ZP) uses many effects on his voice live, which seems kinda pointless tbh lol.

so ya no complaints from me as long as a load of Dragonforce clones do not appear... i think they're fine in their own way, far from my favourite band, but still alright... and since everyone around here loves power metal so much, thoughts on Polaris? I thought it was better than the recent Strat albums, but nothing compared to the 90's albums like Visions

EDIT: and no i am not a power metal fanboy! i obviously enjoy helloween and such (KOTSK) but i only dabble in that sort of thing, death metals where it's at, hence i have Chuck as my avatar...

Axl Rose is a great singer and all but he would probably drive all the other members away and get all new ones so they wouldn't be the same band anymore, take 13 years off and bring out a new album with loads of hype that ends up awful... not that he hasn't done that already

All they have going for them is fast.

And Herman isn't even all too fast considering they've deliberately sped up the sound in their studio albums. Go look up people who actually play at insanely fast speeds like Petrucci, Vai, Gilbert and the like. Even then, it's not just strumming a guitar as fast as you possibly can, they add technicality to it, and it makes Dragonforce look very very mediocre.

EDIT: If you just cant live without speed on guitar but you can't stand Dragonforce, just go look up Michael Angelo Batio. He plays a left-handed, right-handed guitar at the same time for Christ's sake.

I like them personally. They're good musicians and although they are fairly repetitive when it comes to what their songs are about I still like them none the less. However, I once had a mate of mine comment on them that he found that they just spend all their time showing off, which is a point about them.

I honestly don't care for any music group that creates a 7 minute song and over 5 minutes of it nothing but mediocre power cords. I have no problem with long songs like that (I love Zepplin), but I just do not care for DF. It's totally fine if others have differing opinions to mine, but, as I said, I find DF to be tedious and annoying.

I like their stuff a lot. They're the third band (along with Blind Guardian and Rhapsody) that ultimately got me into metal.

I mean, what else can I say? I like driving tempo and lyrics about dragons, warriors, determination, fire, awesomeness, and whatnot. Disciples of Babylon, Soldiers of the Wasteland, Revolution Deathsquad, and Last Journey Home are some of my most favorite songs. In fact, there's only a handful of their songs that I'm not too thrilled with (Storming the Burning Fields, Starfire, half of the Sonic Firestorm album, and especially A Flame For Freedom). Truth be told, I don't really care if their music is sped up in studio (it sounds good like that), and I've never really thought of them as "repetitive." I can see where the accusation comes from, but there's plenty of difference between their songs to tell them apart (even with certain motifs that are repeated, like the similar beginnings of "Prepare for War and "Fury of the Storm").

This is also another one of those instances where I haven't seen any of the zealous fans of something I like. Maybe I just ignore them instinctively, since almost the only times I see the band's name mentioned, it's always people saying they suck. That's all well and good, I guess, but I agree with the OP; it gets kind of obnoxious.

To the Dragonforce fans: please, just let it go already. Some of us don't like the band, some of us don't like the fans. It's incredibly easy to fix one of these problems. It starts with not fighting over this anymore. When all the pointless debate is over, pick up some Dream Theater and see if you like it as much.

To my fellow haters: We stand little chance of converting Dragonforce fans by such meaningless pandering. Leave them alone, and maybe they'll just drop the issue once and for all. Perhaps recommend transitional bands instead of building a wall to keep them out of the "good metal".
...it's like you made a conciliatory gesture with one hand and flipped me off with the other. I'm confused now.

the way i see it is, maybe people feel less manly when someone pulls a "JUST TRY TO PULL THIS OE OFF!" move. so they feel the need to shoot them down to feel like less of a prick. but honestly, let's see one of you guys pull off that guitar in real life. any takers? i fucking thought not. no GH3 doesn't count!

It might be a dick move to pull, but:

Can I do better? no. Have I seen done better? Absolutely.

I like their music but they're not nearly as talented as everyone thinks they are. Most of their sound comes from effect pedals, post prod audio editing, and synth instruments, and everyone's like "OOOH THEY'RE THE FASTEST GUITARISTS EVER"
Michael Angelo Batio would like a word with you guitar queeros
