Pretty much this. I admittedly don't typically watch the medium, but most of the images and clips I've seen of female characters in modern anime pretty much all have the same appearance. They're predominantly fair-skinned, slender of build and have the exact same doe-eyed, noseless facial features with vacant expressions. If it weren't for the different hair styles and colors I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.altnameJag said:Anime should go back to, and improve on, having more body types in general.
I mean, used to be there was a plethora of skin tones and body types just...out there, without comment. You could tell three red haired characters apart and only some artists had a problem with copying body types within their own work. (Leiji Matsumoto, I like your work, but damn, there is more than one way to draw a woman.)
Meanwhile these days whole genres, and large parts of the medium as a whole, look like they could all be drawn by the same group.
It's why I tend to prefer Western style animation, as there's more variety in the aesthetics and character design.
First MLP, then Lord of the Rings and now anime. Do you view all mediums that happen to have some skinhead fans/interpretations Nazi propaganda? Because you're going to have to swear off the vast majority of art and entertainment if you do.Smithnikov said:I want anime to just stop sucking the Nazi party's proverbial cock. The "Germany did nothing wrong" circlejerk has already gotten me to swear off the medium entirely.
