First MLP, then Lord of the Rings and now anime. Do you view all mediums that happen to have some skinhead fans/interpretations Nazi propaganda?
If it's speaking to them on some level, clearly.

Anime's not being very damn subtle about it though.

Ballad of Evil Tonya. Need I say more?

Because you're going to have to swear off the vast majority of art and entertainment if you do.
Que sera sera. If it turns out the vast majority of art and entertainment is out there to push a right wing authoritarian message, I'll be glad to be rid of it.

What the hell are you going on about? Youjo Senki (japanese name) makes it very clear that the protagonist is on the nazi side and definitely not a good person, at all. In fact, her empire is portrayed as invading other places for no reason other than spreading their own culture and gaining power over all the land. And let's not forget the protagonist herself. A total asshole of a calculating, cynical egomaniac with delusions of deserved prosperity, whom happily uses other people as mere pawns in her failed climb to the easy life and has no problem using any means necessary to reach her goals, as long as she's allowed to do so by her superiors.

How in the world are you ever getting out of that that 'Nazi Germany did nothing wrong'? Yes Japan seems to have some kind of fixation with Nazi uniforms, thinking they look cool or something. And they certainly like using Nazis as a part of their setting in anime. But you're just plain wrong about Japan endorsing them. All anime I've seen that had some form of Nazis in them only ever painted them as bad guys or made them a laughing stock. Did you even watch Youjo Senki? Or did you just hear it from others or saw some short youtube vids and based your opinion on that?

On-topic: are we talking anime, or..."anime?" Like...the special anime, that we hide deep in a nest of innocuously-named subfolders.

If it's the former, I generally support more varied body types overall, because it helps distinguish characters from one another and generally contributes to better animation quality.

If it's the latter...well, I'm not opposed to cartoon badonkadonk, but it's never been a personal gripe of mine that there wasn't enough of it. I mean, maybe the Japanese are just more fascinated by massive breasts than they are by a prodigious badonkadonk. Honestly, I don't discriminate.

I want anime to just stop sucking the Nazi party's proverbial cock. The "Germany did nothing wrong" circlejerk has already gotten me to swear off the medium entirely.
I got no idea what the context for that is, but I do know that Japan has a problem with right-wing revisionists who think that Imperial Japan did nothing wrong. It seems to be sourced basically from the fact that Japan never went through the process of "de-Nazification" that Germany did, with the result that modern Germans have a very clear and honest grasp of their country's unsavory history, but modern Japanese are not likely to even be aware of shit like Nanking. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_Massacre] Schools just don't address the topic; students have to go find out about it on their own, and some of them slip into denial as a result.

Because people make anime and people are political, that thread sometimes appears in anime to a greater or lesser extent. Code Geass, for example, while being a pretty great show, had the uncomfortable premise of a formerly-independent Japan being conquered, subjugated and exploited by a fantastical stand-in for the USA blended with British imperialism. High School of the Dead, apart from the gun porn and...well, the regular porn, had a right-wing militia show up in the latter part of the season as the good guys. Which was weird, to be honest.

I mean, it never felt too blatant to me and I was often told I was reading too much into things, and I can accept that. But I feel that once you start thinking about it, you keep seeing this strong revisionist undercurrent running through Japanese media, tying anti-Americanism and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with denial of Imperial Japanese war crimes committed in the 30s and 40s. I don't even think it's intentional or malevolent; the Japanese just get taught "America nuked us, twice, and then we surrendered, but it's okay now," and no-one mentions all the parts about the rape camps and inhumane scientific experiments. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731] I can't even blame them; sometimes, the history of Imperial Japan seems too cartoonishly evil to be real.

So...according to Wikipedia...

Wikipedia said:
An atheist Japanese salaryman, in the moment of being murdered, is confronted by a self-righteous entity he refers to as "Being X" who condemns the man for not believing that "Being X" is God and sentences him to be reborn in a world that is similar to WWI Europe mixed with early aspects of World War II and magic, in an empire torn apart by countless wars with all nearby countries. The salaryman is reborn as a girl, Tanya Degurechaff. According to "Being X", if she's not able to die a natural death, or she refuses to have faith in Him, her soul will leave the circle and be sent to hell for the countless sins that Tanya has committed in her previous life. In search for an escape, Tanya decides to enter into the Empire's Mages Division and fight in the world war, hoping to reach a high enough rank as fast as possible to remain far from the battlefield and in this way avoid the risk of being killed. Even if she's now forced to speak with a young girl's lisp, Tanya soon turns into a ruthless soldier who prioritizes efficiency and her own career over anything else, even the lives of those beneath her, especially those that get on her bad side.
...what the fuck is that all about?

And how comically inept everyone EXCEPT the Empire is at warfare. I had to shut it off at seeing infantrymen firing on mages for the umpteenth time and having the balls to look surprised when their bullets do nothing. Again.

The (totally not German) Empire are brilliant strategists, honorable soldiers, have the cute Moe girls, and are not only possessed of technical and tactical acumen, but GOD IT'SELF blesses their prototype weapons to work beyond their expectations.

If my eyes rolled any harder, they'd have fallen out of my head.

It's a wank fest for German military memorabilia lovers. It's one thing to Mary Sue a character, that show Mary Sue's a whole nation. The Empire are righteous, smart, technically and tactically superior while all the other nations are too stupid to live, and blessed by God.

I'm curious what "countless sins" this atheist salaryman committed, that is being used as the stick for his soul. That sounds like a giant pile of shit to me.

Japan, as a culture and civilization, I despise. If it's not this defiant smug self righteous shit that surpasses even our own, it's their fucked up "even if you are right, you shouldn't say anything" corporate bullshit they engage in.

And the racism. They do shit to non Japanese over there in 2017 that make pre civil rights Alabama look like a hippie commune.

A few game franchises I like and a few movies doesn't change that.

1) Protagonists aren't necessarily likeable. I do actually like Tanya but there we go.
2) Most of their 'brilliant strategy' comes from a character who vaguely remember something like this happening before in an alternate reality, so that's cheating slightly.
3) Mild spoilers, but 'God' is also blessing the Allies at the end of the season.

Basically giving zero shits about anybody else, being a compassionless tool interested in nothing but his own career progression.

One of my favorite anime is Darker than Black. Thinking back, it actually has a good mix of "standard anime women" and ones that don't fit the trope, but I really didn't notice. There was even an indian women in it and she's just there. No one address it, and it really isn't a part of her character, she just happens to be a Hindu Indian in Japan.

Yeah, I do. First of all, it's more realistic. Secondly, it's attractive to me. Thirdly, diversity in body types is just plain good character design.

It doesn't matter what the fuck us Westerners want, Japan will focus on Japan first and foremost while everyone else will get 2nd servings.

As for what I would want in the fantasy world where Japan puts in effort I would rather they focus on characters that have a purpose rather than how they look. To often I see characters crated with the only purpose to be: a stereotype, self insert, precious little wifu, or jackoff material.

I'm all for skinny/petite looks. It's just more attractive in my eyes. Japan also has a different cultural standard with regards to weight so what to westerners seems "skinny" to them is "normal" so what is described in this topic would come across as fat.

Hmmm, I'd say that on the whole h-manga/anime offer a larger variety of body types for women than non-h anime/manga do. Fetishes are a thing and you're likely to find at least one artist catering to any of them. The vast majority are still going to be thin, improbably busty high school girls tho (maybe a bit meatier in the hips/butt/thighs on average).

So Entity X...

A: Maybe blesses the Allied leaders with a couple more brain cells to realize that shooting at people with impenetrable force fields is NOT a viable tactic?

B: Has them recruit mages of their own that aren't as worthless as the ground troops?

Sure, why not. Mixing up the body types can't hurt. Well, ok, it might hurt the more Otaku-driven shows, but those don't exactly exist to present a diverse and interesting mix of characters.

Then again, I probably shouldn't talk - one of my favourite animes is Dragon Ball Z, and whoever did the art for those has same-face syndrome so bad it hurts. ************, my Dragon Quest characters all look like Goku! Every single one! There are different faces, for fucks sake!

I don't get why anime should become more "realistic" when it comes to body-types, it's stylized appearance is exactly what sets it apart as its own thing.

Making it more diverse in character designs? yeah, I can see that, and a lot of anime who dare break that mold actually get rewarded for it, still, there's a ton of cheaply made anime out there with mass followings in the same way we still churn out samey sitcoms and bland romantic comedies, shit sells and casual consumers are actually a far larger audience than dedicated consumers, they don't much care for the direction of the industry.

No, not at all. She's not the heroine. She's the protagonist, sure, but not a hero in any form. Even her own nation is a little scared of her.

-They're not brilliant strategists. The brilliant strategies come from someone who remembers how an almost identical war in his own world went, and has a basic idea of the strategies that were used there.
-They only have the 'cute moe girls' because the story focuses on the empire. And in anime the cute moe girls are always where the focus of the story is.
-Yes, their technology is indeed more advanced than the other nations. But that doesn't mean 'nazi germany did nothing wrong'.
-God doesn't bless the empire. God manipulates the empire through faith to get to Tanya.

You're really obsessed with this aren't you? It's like you see nazi favouritism everywhere.
