A prefer the Rogue to be honest. I like my character to be the kind who uses wit, guile and anything else considered cowardly, because at the end of the day, that is the exact type of class I'd be in really life. I usually make them very skinny and appear not particularly adept at normal combat, as that is the kind of look I have in real life.

i'm a slave to high dps builds, so whatever i reckon can max out my forward damage regardless of ability to take it in return :D

this usually means assassin in games with a good sneak system

Nothing screams for the pursuit of knowledge quite like summoning lightening from your fingertips! Mage all the way!

Priest/Healer. I actually wasn't too interested in it until I was a raiding Holy Paladin in WoW. Now it's my go-to in most rpgs where I have that choice, especially in multiplayer/co-op.

I do love my plate armor, but i will usually give up my pretty plate for the ability to bend the rules of reality to my whims, because **** YOU REALITY!

Tie between rogue/thief and mage. On the poll I chose rogue/assassin/thief because that was the first one I ever played.

A mage is far too nice, I prefer getting business done and getting straight to the source so warlock is the role i would pick

Thinking about it, I don't really have a favorite archetype. I'll play anything, but I probably play archers and rogues less often.

I am a sneaky bastard. I have all the instincts of a sneaky bastard, and yet no cause to employ them in my day-to-day life, as well as moral qualms. I get quite a kick out of being able to lie, cheat, steal, and stab in the back as I please, so give me an RPG, and the first thing I'll try out is whatever variation of the rogue archetype is in vogue. It's funny, the mage is touted as being the 'intelligent' archetype, but in my experience all the mage has on their side is comical amounts of power - awesome, no doubt, but your more roguelike talents, when allowed to be employed creatively, are far more of an intellectual diversion than shooting fire out of your hands until everything dies. Of course, that's more true in tabletop RPGs, rather than computer ones, with their built in limitations, but even there, it's the rogue's life for me.

Particularly the lying bit.

I mean, in terms of combat mechanics, it all depends on the way the game works, and the first thing I do with an RPG is to sit down, look over the skill trees, and figure out what to take and what to do. After that bit of thinking, it's just an exercise in seeing how well I can execute the plan. Yes, a mage is usually going to be the most powerful (again, depends on system), but there's usually no fun there for me, and if I can get it done with any class, then 'most powerful' doesn't mean much to me.

I go with the archer/ranger/hunter type, usually branching out into lockpicking/thievery once I get into settled areas. My first characters, in games that allow that class type, are almost always rangers.

My first character in Skyrim was basically a Nord cosplaying as a Native American Hunter. I scouted for game trails, and crept along river banks, collecting hides to use and sell. The actual plot of the game was something that only occurred as a side note to my characters long, drawn out, hunting excursions.

Voted for Knight/Guardian/Paladin option but it's really only the first two.

Shield, Heavy Armour and tanking skills. No magic, magic's for pussies. Not like there's problem that a well aimed shield bash can't solve anyway.

Kinda depends on what's available. If there's a pet-based class I usually go for that (because I like knowing there's always someone to look out for me, even if 'someone' is just an AI), but if that's not available I usually go for the slow behemoths (because there's something innately satisfying about being able to wade into combat taking hits that would kill anyone else with ease)

In CRPGs, usually a rogue/assassin/thief type, but one that specialises in archery. Basically the fantasy version of a sniper. Sometimes I'll go for a ranger since that's basically a tougher but less sneaky version of the same.

I've not got much MMO experience but from what I have had, I prefer Healer for pvp or DPS for pve.

Pnp usually a ranger type or warrior type.
