What? We're not talking about consoles, we're talking about handhelds. When was the last time you saw a midnight release of anything on a handheld? It's extremely unfair to say that the DS has plenty of "killer-apps" yet say the PSP has none because it doesn't have the "killer apps" like Halo or GTA that are on consoles.Rigs83 said:You are going to call "an okay game" a killer app.
How many midnight releases have those game justified?
People have and will wait out hours (some even days) ahead of time for a Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, Madden or Halo console release. All killer app have to amaze and redefine a genre or even create it's own. After GTA 3 came out it created the sandbox play style the industry is recreating for just about every type of game being released even to this today, how many times have you heard "It's like GTA but with...?". GTA: Liberty Stories just copy and pasted that with bad controls. Metal Gear Acid may have created the card battle stealth game but who rushed out a knock off to rake in on it's success, how many times have you heard "It's like Metal Gear Acid but... ?"
In entertainment imitation, not copyright infringement, is the sincerest form of flattery.
If no one is trying to follow you than no one cares about what you are doing. If you have tell someone a "PSP is a healthy system" I have a Dreamcast to sell you.
When has a "killer app" on a handheld ever "redefine" the genre? You're comparing consoles to handhelds and you just can't do that. They're two separate different things.
I've never heard "It's like Metal Gear Acid but..." though I don't see how that's relevant in any way. I've heard many great things about the GTA games on PSP and MGAcid and I've even played a little of both myself, they're fine.
I don't see how your "I have a Dreamcast for you" sentence is in any way relevant to anything. The PSP has sold over 50 million units, about half of the DSs sales. I fail to see how that's like a Dreamcast, which sold 10 million and is a console.
You're making unfair comparisons, comparing PSP "killer apps" to console "killer apps" and everything inbetween while leaving the DS alone. If you compare a handheld to a console, then you have to include everything.
So tell me this. When was the last time you've seen a midnight campout for any handheld game whatsoever? When was the last time a handheld game "revolutionized" a genre? When the hell did handhelds all of a sudden become comparable to a home console?
