Activision still makes a lot of games I like to play, and thus they're doing a lot right as a company. Kotick just has a terrible public persona, and apparently is in dire need of a better PR team to properly manage his unfortunate outbursts. As it's been said, he's been the CEO there for a very long time, and he seems to have only really come into the spotlight since the Activision-Blizzard merger.
But it's no use, gamers want a "devil", a punching bag, and Kotick does have some idiotic comments from time to time so there it goes. I really doubt many gamers understand about Activion's situation as a company in the last 20 years to really say anything about Kotick's contribution.

Few gamers? My friend, I believe you would be hard pressed to find any gamers who disagree with Schafer.
lolll x)

but really, Kotick has seriously reached that point where he's feeling untouchable enough to be a jerk and not suffer the consequences...

Few gamers are going to disagree with Schafer, as Kotick does have a tendency to alienate them with the comments he makes, but to suggest that Kotick hasn't built anything in the industry seems disingenuous, however, as he has been the Activision CEO for nearly twenty years.
I wouldn't really call a strip-mining rig much building.

As long as people are still buying his games, something tells me he really doesn't give a damn. Sure, this proves Schafer's point, but it's hardly going to stop him.

You don't like Kotick and want him out? Stop chucking money at him.

I'm so sick and tired of 'let's maximize profits' and 'business this' and 'sue them that'.

Life is so meaningless when it revolves around Kotick-philosophy, but unfortunately, in -many- cases, money makes the world go round and round...

It's so damned annoying. So glad we still have doods like Schafer around. It's like a breath of fresh air.

Raising my strongest flame shield and reminding everyone that I still think Kotick is a measly worm of man who needs to get the hell away from gaming before he sucks it dry I will say this for him:

Gaming is a business, and Kotick is treating it like a business. I'm not saying Shafer doesn't have a very good point, and it would certainly be nice if all developers thought of the gamers they were supplying the product for, but it is still an industry, and by all accounts Kotick is pretty good at that industry.

Yes he's a prick, yes he doesn't appear to have much of a conscience beneath the layers of profteering that make up his soul, but which would you rather, he ran Activision like a business and it continued to make money and games, or he ran Activision like his own personal idea factory and it soon went bankrupt and we never had anything more from them; thus creating the knock-on effect that many other smaller companies would go under as well, and potentially a lot of investors into videogames would abandon ship?

Personally I'd rather we put up with the devil himself as long as he manages to keep some semblance of life going, then boot him at the first sign of trouble.

I agree with him, and could include a few other game company CEO's into those comments as well. Ya Kotick has created something ... a big steaming pile of ....

Maybe Kotick could run a brothel?

I'd feel sorry for the hookers, but it'd fit his sleazy personality.

Or he could run a drug ring!
or he could go in the shrimping business and hopefully get destroyed by a storm.

I'm starting to think that Schafer might be the sanest man in the games industry, which is ironic, given how manic the games he creates are.
Well, if you dump all the crazy into the games, there isn't any left and you end up sane.

As much as I loath Activision, there are other companies that do the same thing. Like Nintendo and EA Games. I just don't think they've gotten such a bad image though because their CEO's don't suffer from some sort of personality disorder. Which is the main reason why I don't buy their games (save for dragon age. I couldn't resist).

The only problem is as long as those fan boys keep buying these games the companies will keep pumping out grotesque spawn (not unlike the brood mother in dragon age) and slap a brand label on it.

"Hopefully he'll go back to another industry scene," Schafer added. "He could go to an industry that makes more money ... something that suits his passions more. Weapons manufacturing?"
I love it, I love everything about it.

Damn, Tim Schafer QFMFT.

It's nice that a fairly big name is speaking out against Kotick. Wonder what will happen next?

I don't care.

The problem isn't Kotick. The problem is mindless gamers who will keep buying poorer sequels.

It's often not a viable long term strategy to stop new stuff, but some companies, like square enix, actually get away with it.
