I think that PC gaming is going to exist like forever! Why? Because they rule! And PC's are going to exist for a long, long time...

Well, 20 million people have xbox live, and less than half have gold so that's 9 million or so, and WoW has 11.5 million subscribers alone...dunno what to say about that.

I don't think pc gaming will ever die since there is obviously still a powerful market.

Yeah, in the middle of a play through of Fallout 3 with about a dozen mods thrown in to the mix. Can't do that on a console (With the exception of UT3 on the PS3). Also bought a couple of games of Steam for a grand total of seven bucks.

So, unless they eliminate the ability to create mods, which will not be bloody likely, and console games can pull off sales that digital distribution of major titles on the PC can, I don't think PC gaming is going anywhere soon.

Plus, lets not forget the longevity of games on PC, such as Starcraft, that you can play on the same system you're playing Fallout 3, APB, etc.

Then there's the drive space available for saving games, adding on DLC, expansions, and mods. Then, there's not having to get rid of your PC to play a new game, just incremental upgrades.

All I want out of a console is a slot to put the game inside, and a button to turn it on. Nothing else. I don't want a camera, instant messages, or Netflix. All it represents is an interface you have to go through before playing the game. I just want a game system, nothing more. I don't even need an Internet connection: I don't play MMOs and online multiplayer is too inhuman to be fun. Local multiplayer is where its at, anything less is just lame. So I don't like where consoles are going.

Maybe I'm just too simple for this complex world.

PC gaming makes up 7% of the total gaming market. There is that stubborn 7% that refuse to acknowledge it's generally inferior, and they will never abandon the PC. So long as that 7% remains as stubborn as they are, it will never completely die. Even though it should.

Hell to the no! PC Gaming is the past, the present, and the future. Not to mention awesome.
End of.

PC's are the best for FPS and RTS and that's a lot of the gaming population.
I don't agree that PC is best for FPS at all, not by a long shot.

But one thing is for sure, if you want an RTS, you'd have to be an idiot to get a console version.

It's not dead, but I wouldn't say that right now it's at the top of its game (no pun intended). Why do these damn things always have yes or no answers.

How can FPS be better on the console?

I forgot MMORPGs.

PC gaming is dying, but there's no reason it should be. I don't play many PC games, I use consoles, but the PC has so much potential as a gaming platform, it's modable, and it would stop the annoyance of having games exclusive to one console.

The problem is that it's easy to cheat online, it has no unified achievement system, many people don't realize you can just use a corded 360 controller instead of a mouse.

If those problems could be tackled, and developers starting making more games for the PC again, people could buy a nice PC for probably less than the cost of having an average PC plus a game console, so they would save money and have a nicer PC for when they're not gaming.

Frankly, I do think PC gaming is dying, I don't think it will die mind you, just that it's a sick little malnourished thing that has been perpetually on the verge of death for years, only to be kept alive by the stubborn nature of PC gamers.

I WANT PC gaming to work, because it has unbelievable potential (and modding is fucking awesome) and I do think eventually PC gaming will make a comeback (if only because of the fact that consoles eventually become indistinguishable from PC's) but as of yet, PC gaming is on the verge of death.

Oh right, MMO's too of course.

FPS is better on the console because of the fact that consoles use controllers instead of a mouse and keyboard, even if I used a controller for my PC, that would make them equal in terms of control, at which point the fact that consoles have achievements and it's harder to cheat on them (since you can't directly tamper with files and download them) would put it over the edge.

Mainstream PC support is dead but otherwise PC gaming is stronger than it ever was. If they would stop worrying about piracy and just port games to it they would make more money than they are now.

Where's the 'it remains the console of choice to people who have the patience to actually mess with installs and system requirements' options?

The problem of PC gaming is that it's compared to console gaming too much. There's plenty that's different in it. On its own terms, it's thriving. But if you equate success with 'being like console games', of course it's not successful.

PC gaming is not dead at all. Console gaming is just more popular becuase it's easier. You don't have to make sure a console has has the specs to handle a game, you just plug it in and go. That's in my opinion anyway.
Probably why there was that thing with the two devolpers implying Console gamers are impatient n stuff.

It will die if all the big releases are just Console clones designed for consoles and not PC's. PC's have one thing consoles don't: RAM. Lots and lots of it. With ram we can have endless variety in our games, instead of copy/paste scenery. If we have big, diverse games on the pc then people might just start coming back from console land.
Meh, you'll still have the loyal ones to it. The ones that use the Emulators for liek PS1, NES, N64, Gameboy Advance, etc. Since the PC is the ultamite reverse compatability machine.
