Morgan Freeman sells it for me. I feel kinda sorry for Zac Efron...perhaps he's a good actor, but his film history doesn't do him any justice at all.

i wouldn't watch it because i hated Akira in the first place. it is my firm belief that most people only like it because it was the first or among the first exposure to anime they received of which they were actively aware it was imported, unlike speed-racer.

Why cant Hollywood leave The Japanese stuff alone >.<

Only if i was paid would I go see it
Hollywood doesnt leave anything alone. It remakes old movies from any nation. It makes books into movies. It makes games into movies. It makes recent movies into movies, "Let the right one in" being an example.

And Japanese stuff is a prime thing for them to go for because of the Wests immense obsession of all things Japan.

I think Freeman's just to old to be playing a military officer: Maybe a general but not a colonel. I'd have to wait to see the trailers to make sure the don't go the rout of... Dragon Ball *shudders*
Dude, Morgan just played a kick-ass secret agent in RED. Playing a colonel should be no problem for him.

Also, need I remind you of another famous "old" military officer in a tv show?

I posed the following question of my 7th graders: In general, would Morgan Freeman balance out Zac Efron? They aren't familiar with Akira (and frankly neither am I) but they agreed that if Morgan Freeman was a god-character, it might be okay. Otherwise, probably not.

I'm less concerned about Efron, who I can take or leave, than I am about the supposed PG-13 rating. I understand that a live action movie that's likely to be as CGI-heavy as a semi-accurate telling of Akira needs to reach a decent-sized audience in order to have a shot of making back its budget, but at the same time, the original anime Akira (and what I've read of the manga) is uncompromisingly brutal, and there's a very real danger that even a well-considered PG-13 would run quite visibly into the limitations of that rating.

I'll wait for the reviews. I'm definitely not going to "opening night" this one.

ZAC EFRON GTFO AKIRA RIGHT NAW!! Seriously, I think that Morgan Freeman is an awesome choice, but even Jesus could not balance out the awful reality that is, the Efron.

I'll end up watching it but even as much as I love Morgan Freeman I don't think any amount of him could ever change the fact it's going to be a god awful film. It should stay to an Anime being the graphical masterpeice it is.

I still don't know what the fuck "Akira" is, but I would rather scrape my testicles over a mile of broken glass than to see Zac Efron in anything other than a hole in the ground.

Real talk.

It's a western live-action adaptation of an anime. What's going to happen? It's going to suck, that's what.

I had to look up who the fuck that Zac Efron was and if at first I thought it might even float then now really hope it sinks like a rock.

When the name "Morgan Freeman" appears, all bets are off: that movie will be good, at the very least.
Even on the off chance that the movie is bad, you still have Morgan Freeman to lighten the mood with his sliky smooth voice.... MMMMM.

Thing is, why americanising everything?

Isn't a bit racist to YOUR OWN COUNTRYS PEOPLE to asume that they can't watch anything if it isn't soaked in the Stared and Striped Banner?
