That is the point Japan doesn't even have a real organization for women who have been violently assaulted to. In fact Japan until recently didn't even take crimes against women seriously until pressure from the UN in the 90's. To sit there and honestly take Japan's violence stats seriously shows naivety when it is a nation that has shown little regard to women and considers having 40 or so Clinics for women of violent assault to be satisfactory. You tell me how you can tout the rape stats of Japan as fact when even the Gov't of Japan admits their countermeasures to violence against women is not satisfactory?

Whilst you can argue that from the reported rapes, do bare in mind that the Japanese culture is hugely different and it seems likely to me that the 'rape games' have little to do with the trend for low reported rapes in their country. A more likely scenario for me is a combination of increased shame, increased objectivation of women making them more submissive, and a general attitude of 'its not rape'. MAybe I'm wrong, but I don't think a handful of these games would appease the 'urges' of the average rapist.

Historical data of pre-1990's rape stats would probably provide a fair baseline of what affect these games have had.

Fair enough, fair enough. I'm just saying you can't make factual statements about what the average American and Japanese rapists do. Even the statistics aren't enough to tell, as as stated before, the Japanese culture still reduces the likely hood of reporting sexual assault, and allows for more 'submissive' targets for the scum to control for there wants.

Thinking on it, even the historical data isn't enough to compare with, as historical data is more likely to be uncomplete.

If you think banning a game will stop real rape your delusional. Speaking of women's rights, this isn't a strictly male fantasy (nor are females always the ones being rapped). We have to be realistic and admit that there are many people with this fetish and 99.999% of them wouldn't want it in real life. Actually there are reports of people in Japan who hold "rape parties". They invite unsuspecting girls to dinner parties pick out their favourites and rape them.

Furthermore Japan may have the apparantly lowest rate of rape but maybe thats because the judicial system over there makes it harder for women to prove they have actually been raped, the victim has to show undeniable proof that she had tried to fight her attacker off before its considered rape, so situations where the woman was too afraid or even unable to fight back are not considered rape.

For people saying "its just a game" its more than that, it normalises rape in society. This game is different than GTA as the whole point of GTA is not to kill people but to move up the ranks, and there is the 5 star system, so the player is still "reminded" that what they are doing is wrong. In Rapelay the whole purpose of the game is to rape that family to the point they no longer care and there is no system in place to say what is going on is wrong, infact the character feels justified in what he's doing.
The fact that games like this exist makes me sick, what kind of decent person would actually want to play a game like that?

PS: Since when has rape ever been erotic? Perhaps you should ask victims if they think their attacks have ever been in any way erotic....

1) i've heard of those parties i'm fairly sure it was exaggerated there were very few but a bunch of wankers had to go and think it was cool and claim they did it too

Rape cenrtainly isn't good. But so is murder. There are ton of games where you kill people, but that doesnt mean that you will kill in real life. Same goes for these games too. As long as it's JUST A GAME it should not be banned. If you ban these sort of games, you should not oppose the banning of games where you kill people.

The 'point' of a game is subjective - you can't say that GTA isn't about random carnage, as many casual gamers will play it for just that. What you view as the purpose of a video game is not necessarily the same as the next gamer, so any argument about points and purposes is unfortunately bullshit - you cannot say that, for any game, it has a universal 'point' to it.

If we ban games like Rapelay, we could no longer justify any game in which you harm or kill a virtual human being. Yes, rapists are scum - but guess what, so are psychopaths, wife-beaters and hitmen, but it's fine and dandy for me to kill virtual human beings, but not to do anything sexual towards one?

I haven't played Rapelay, and I don't intend to, but anyone saying that the game should be banned, needs to take a look at their shelves, and try to justify why a game involving any kind of crime shouldn't also be banned for the same reasons.

Or, what, is rape worse than serial killing? Running down the street shooting anyone you see is fine, as long as you don't have sex with them?

Rape is disgusting, but so is the large majority of what you do in any game rated 18.
