Ooohhhh, so it's no biggy.

Feel free to throw all your made in the U.S games in the bin.
thats fine! I still have my Dragon Age and Zelda!
Dragon Age was published by, wait for it, an AMERICAN company.

But if you're fine with it, post a video of you destroying all the games you own that were made or published in the U.S.

No?

You like some games from the U.S?

Oh, I see.

Get over yourself. The U.S is the primary creator and exporter of video games.

You're fighting a loosing and meaningless battle.

No one cares.
answering questions before others answer it... tisk tisk

besides Biowear moving from EA would be a good thing. move to someone like... hmmm Ubisoft a better dev
You do realize without the US market the profibility of games goes down by a significant margin. Therefore games are very likely not going to have a huge budget like Dragon age. So it really wouldn't matter where you moved Bioware either way it would be an end to any game with a budget.
Look I think Ubisoft has quite a bit of money. I don't think I would change the budget of non-USA games at all. maybe they will get higher budget since it doesn't have to compete with crap like CoD.

Horrendous use of the English language... tsk, tsk.

Oh, I was wrong in my answering? Do please upload said video.

I just can't wrap my head around why you're being so silly.

It seems you picked a fight and are backing a loosing horse to somehow save face.

It's over.

Move on.

I shan't reply to you again - I've better things to do.

I would like to thank everybody (apart from Cassita) for keeping this topic a civil debate with out a massive flame war.
Its hardly a flame war when someone has a differing opinion, mate.

OT: Well, the US is a major exporter of video games, so if this goes ahead it could have pretty deep consequences for the gaming community. But more than the law, its what the law entails itself.

Gaming is simply another entertainment medium, like books or movies. Why should they be singled out for persecution, simply because they are slightly more interactive than films?

Then again, it seems like the current witch-hunts against gaming is the same radio went through, then movies, then TV. All we can really do is ride it out.
its a bit more than slightly, yes it would have an major impact however I am sick of people saying its the end of world wide. OK lets look at it from there eyes (man its old in here).

Video Games, ya like Mario and Pac-Man great fun. wate... what is that man doin... WHAT! this is made for KIDS!

I AM OUT! see people still think its a toy that's the major issue here. lack of knowledge about the medium. WHILE I can see that some games are out of line (manhunt I am looking at you) also us as a community do have a reputation for being well... not the most polite people.
we often try to defend something with the weakest points (see Cassita). however others are like this as well. I think we need to make games more open and not have only CoD after CoD after CoD. we do need to see better games and in the end that's what started this whole thing.
immature games and minor growing up in a world of presser to play the games.

ok say it goes ahead, they way there speaking (to me anyway)that all the worlds games will share the same fate. ok fine we may not get that many USA games that way, but we still have many world wide devs that will make games.
e.g. Biowear, Ubisoft, Krome, SEGA, Nintendo, ID and of course... Rockstar north.

I under to USA this is a big issue and to them it could(however unlikely) be the end as games as they know it. but please stop making it seem that world will fall with you.
You do understand how companies work? If, there is a massive change in the way games are designed in the states then it will most definitely affect other countries. This is because the U.S market is one of the biggest in the world and games designers will probably set the U.S version as the norm. Shit? Yes, but it might happen.

Companies now are already scared to take risks because of this. Erase the US market and you will get more FPS's because atleast those are guaranteed to sell. and your last sentence doesn't even make any kind of sense

*cry* I like kiddy games!
lol JK. Thanks for my uproot lol. However worse case is, yes many people would lose there jobs (and they be a saving point in the case). in the point of peoples views, I don't think that is off topic I think that is the root of the issue here.
Don't get me wrong, I like violence in games. kill or be killed for many games is the challenge. without a challenge... well it isn't really a game.

I mean stereotype of us as being load and in your face online, is very true. indeed much of this is because it is a challenge and losing will always make us pissed in one way or the other. however I think we do need to clear up our act. "monkey see, monkey do" is a phrase I would use. too many 12 year olds are swearing into there mics and using swear words in RL when it is uncalled for and alot of the time it is because of hearing us.

The only real truth in this is that games make us more aggressive. not violent, but aggressive.

also I often miss games such as Mario, Zelda and Sonic. to say "No-one wants" is quite extreme in my books. its like saying "no one really wants twilight", regardless what you think of it people do want it. often after my hardcore Halo fests I grab mah DS and play some fun "kid games". I think there are better words for it than "kiddy". but thats just me, I am a sucker for cute and epic. (just look at mah avatar)

but this is getting off-topic. I just think that gaming as a whole will need to improve. we have a high chance of getting the law passed and I think it will. but even then, does that mean devs should go out and make more bloodfests? hell no! then we would have more issues like this.

if we are to get the respect we want, we gotta clean up our medium.

Dunno how many times I've said this. Japan put a governmental block on being able to show a penis in a movie or video. How did movie and anime producers get around this? Tentacle monsters. For a paper in school (If Porn can be art or just plain gratuitous) I looked up several forms. Japanese game shows can often be sexual in nature with "mini-Games" of girls doing really messed up things. (I won't post it here but PM me for an example).

Japan is simply like that. It's odd, yes.

My question is game prices and rights.

1) Free speech will be breached

2) if you can only get game simported from other palces, think they'll hike the game prices in north america $10?

Restricting sales, I still don't know how this is going to affect much more than it has already been. Its not saying outright games cannot be sold, just putting a little more pressure on how games are sold, which IMO isn't a bad thing. Sorry kids but til you are 18, you have to live with restrictions.
How this affects the adult population I'm not 100% sure, because I don't understand how this limits what games are produced. Kids don't buy games, parents do. Kids don't have money (aside from those of legal working age).
I have an 11 year old and I do not allow her to play certain games without screening them myself for content she doesn't need to see yet or wouldn't understand well enough to enjoy. I don't let her go to the store and buy whatever she wants. Likewise I don't let her watch movies that are too graphic/vulgar for kids her age.
Sorry if I feel kids aren't informed or mature enough to make decisions on what is good for them. Teenagers are no exception, mostly because hormones overtake rationality/logic and even the brightest teenager is still subject to fits of irresponsibility. Some of them just never get caught. M for Mature didn't work, AO didn't work and that is a lot of the fault of the person behind the counter as well as parents for not giving enough of a shit.
Of course one can argue that there are adults who still aren't mature enough to handle certain things, or decisions, but then adults are at liberty to be as responsible or irresponsible as they wish to be.
Still, I think blaming media solely for what kids do and not holding parents responsible is wrong. That is pretty much the other side of the argument.
Did anyone complain when age restrictions went up on Alcohol or Tobacco sales?

So now without the US as a huge market share you want to make sure that whatever game you make is going to sell for sure because now you have a huge chance of not making any money. so out of FPS's and JRPGs what do you think game companies are going to make?

True, they arn't fully naked, but if a culture came up with phalic tentacles that rape girls, who's to say they won't show alot of clevage in a game? My quote was made more to give an idea of how... Liberal they are with their content. A male chest simply isn't as enticing or sexual as breasts. Having a man run around in a banana hammock wouldn't get the same reaction as a girl wearing nothing but floss and guns... It's how they are.

People say it'll have a knock on effect on the rest of the world should it be passed. But they also said that about Communism, so who knows?
