If I wasn't so dependent on 4 extensions (ABP, NoScript, Lazarus, and PasswordMaker), I would have left Firefox at version 4. I absolutely loathe the UI, the new development philosophy, and the continued stability problems.

Unfortunately, I absolutely love Lazarus and PWM... :(

Now if Microsoft had just build their Operating System to be a little more secure we wouldn't have had these malware issues in the first place...

but if you have a grandmother or Auntie Sue who can't make such a judgement call, you could do a lot worse than making sure their laptop is running the most updated version of Internet Explorer
Gotcha. So in other words, time to recommend IE to my dad, who gets like, 15 viruses a week, and can 'never figure out why'. Uh huh.
This is how I see it... I live with a family of 6 (including myself) and I'm the only one litterate enough to get rid of viruses. My oldest sister is the only one who knows to avoid them and my youngest sister is kinda my "apprentice" I'm teaching so that when I move out she'll be able to fix my mothers computer.

I beleive the IE part because microsoft prevents people from their own stupidity by auto-blocking things and then telling you its a "connection problem." Really, blocking socially engineered viruses shouldn't even be a feature since anyone browsing the internet should know not to click anything if a random "scan" or "100th visitor" pops up.

EDIT: and I have to agree with the poster above me. Opera is the shnizz

They'd need to send me a whore-a-day to get me to start using Internet Explorer.
A clean whore, preferably.

Yeah, whenever I use Internet Explorer, it crashes on me.
Firefox has rarely crashed on me since I started using it.

But then you'd just be getting even more virusses. Real ones.
At least the means through which I receive them will be more pleasurable.
Plus, I'm pretty sure they make special creams for that. If you spread cream on your computer, well it doesn't work.

Im sticking to my wubby-dubby Fox6. I've had nothing but crap go wrong with IE, and seems most times when someone gets a virus regardless of Browser, its their fault for clicking on something stupid like "Earn $4,200 a week with GOOGLE!" scams.

Bullshit! If you have to download an exe file, run it and confirm 3 security dialogs, it doesn't count. There ain't nothing that can get through Chrome's sandbox.

Also, IE doesn't update it self. So even if Microsoft does patch something, how many people actually update?
while Google only says what they've fixed after most people have received the update.

Considering they didn't use the right version of firefox, this data is possibly misleading on purpose

I use IE & Firefox professionally.

Personally, I tend to use all of the "big 4" PC/IBM browsers: IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera. I can't remember the exact reason why (besides curiosity in the differences in functionality and interface), but now the reasons are gone and the browsers are just... there. Ready for use. Plus, thousands of HDD space, huge amounts of RAM - the computer's not struggling like it did five or six years ago.

IE9 is surprisingly robust and well made if only to compare it to its predecessors. I'm kind of preferring the UI to Firefox 4's.

Whatever, they all work fine.

I'll stick with Chrome and Firefox thanks very much. I've never liked Internet Explorer and I doubt I ever will.

So Microsoft funds a study that shows it's newest version of IE rates better than stripped down, outdated versions of other browsers.

I wish people's short attention spans wouldn't let this kind of crap fly, but that seems to be the world we live in. *sigh*

Safari has never failed me. My ISP sure does suck though been going downhill for months till lately. Been.... slightly better with them.
But I've never gotten viruses. Not as many made for Macs as Windoes though.

you guys might want to post their definition of "socially -engineered malware" :

a web page link that directly leads to a download that delivers a malicious payload whose content type would lead to execution, or more generally a website known to host malware links

handy

I like Chrome's speed, but I prefered IE 7's comprehensive interface. I dumped IE when it dumped the familiar interface.

Also, the reason you don't get as much Malware from IE is because it won't let you do anything online

Okay... it took me 4 tries to get a Captcha that didn't include some sort of Asian characters.

This study is invalid. Only IE, Opera, and Safari had their latest editions tested. Firefox is on version 6 and Chrome is on version 13 (check their wiki entries).

I'm really doubting that Microsoft managed to tighten up IE that much in 1 version. Staying with firefox.

outdated? its from august 2011
Outdated because of the browsers used. Which is why I'm calling invalid.
