Much better tbh.
Better. Not blow me away amazing, or anything, but definitely better.
How is that better?
It's the same imagine cropped out and put in front of a building...
Apparently, because it isn't American.

How the hell are you supposed to get facial animation across in the bloody box art? Talk about much ado about nothing... looks fine.

Ah, the classical tri-shot. Main hero, his work/job, and a sexy gal. Less common in games, but much often seen in the movies.

Only a skinnier Sam Spade can stop a flying lady's head from killing any more people in the sky cops' territory, in... L.A. Noire.

I think it would have done Rockstar good to design box art based on an art deco theme that falls more in line with the setting of the game. Maybe make it a movie poster, something along the lines of this:

Though I'm still very exited for it, being a sucker for historical fiction games, it would be nice to see a little more effort on the part of publishers to make their game covers a little more iconic looking.

I actually like this box art a lot. It's a lot better than the European version, at least.

That doesn't look bad. Sure it's no masterpiece, but what's the big deal? I don't get it, is everyone jaded? Is this an "Impress Yahtzee" contest? I haven't brushed up on my British-y insults.

It's a shame that they went for this. It would have be cool to see a film noire inspired box art.

Does anyone know if this is the European box art also?
Ha! That was my exact reaction: "Wow, this cover sucks. I bet the Euro version is amazing!"

Ok, all ye photoshop wizards in the audience (you know who you are). Give us a proper LA Noire cover. Best one gets a badge.
Got to go with the "less is more" concept.

one of these days im going to make a thread with the European box art, and says it's american, then show the american and say the opposite, after the rage ensues, i will then reveal the truth and laugh.

I think the European box art looks worse, this is coming from an Australian who always bashes how terrible and "hitting you over the head" American cover art is.

Seriously, the American one evokes a mysterious and intense atmosphere, with the main character wound up in between "dames" and crime (which is what this type of genre is good for).

The European box art is the guy... Standing in front of a generic city street... Wow! This gives no personality at all.

But hey, everybody seems to love jumping on the bandwagon with these things. I stick by my opinion, if you disagree, that's fine then, I just think the box art looks great and I don't see why a whole article needed to be dedicated to it. I guess since Yahtzee did an article recently everybody has to follow up to it, who knows...

I like the idea of trying to beat the company at their box art. Here's mine. Though the text is a little bland.

OT: I think about as tired as many others at seeing a character starring out at you on the cover. Though I think the US box art wouldn't be as bad if the right side wasn't there, too many people gathered around. I kind of like the woman's face being here on the left in blue.

Something like this? Obviously sharpened up a fair bit better (rush job). I think it looks more like a game box-art now. Just my personal opinion.

Done in 5 minutes in paint. :\

I don't even have photoshop :(
Winner (though I still think someone should be smoking. Something about Noir and smoking goes together in my mind).

Also, I would be seriously put off by that cover; it makes it look like a bad third person shooter with cheap eye-candy girls.
You mean cheap eye-candy corpses - I'm pretty sure that chick on the stateside box art is dead.
Pulse. No pulse. I'm not fussy.

I'd hang around such a thread. At least the American box art is merely mediocre. The European one outright sucks.

Now that's more like it.
