1: pg-13, grow some damn balls man. Akria is suppose to be a action mindfuck.
2: he can't do Kaneda, maybe one of the other gang members but not kaneda. Simply because kaneda isn't suppose to be good looking.

This movie is going to tank, pure and simple. Can someone please explain to me why frakking Efron is the lead for this movie? I'm sorry but the whole HSM thing is a glaring problem to me(don't care how much money he made with those movies) and PG-13? That's really going to be a crippling factor for this movie.

i said this about dragon ball going live and ill say it about this it will fail because directors and screen writers cant seem to keep the core of the movie intact while making the needed changes to adapt it to live

He's better than Hayden Christensen or Robert Pattinson, I'll give him that. Otherwise, despite his skill he still gives off the "complete douchebag" look everytime I see his image.

..Also the first time I've ever heard about Akira. Huh.

Wow, the rare "Fail before creation". Nice.

Seriously, live action reboot to an Anime to be led by a mouseketeer? Seriously who in their right mind would think this would be an idea that would sell to people and why do they still have a job?
The same people making Spike Speigel from "Cowboy Bebop" Keanu Reeves.

I hate all the live-action remakes of all of the anime I love.

And I hate the fact that the ones that WOULD work as live-action are ignored. Hellsing would be the best live-action thing...ever.

Get Kanye West instead! Cookie for reference.
You mean,... Kanye West as Tesuo?

Good Christ man, what are you thinking!?
That's what I'm thinking.
Yeah, I thought so.

I'd rather have Daft Punk play Kaneda and Tetsuo.

[sub]Still prefer the original Harder Better Faster Stronger.[/sub]
...In all fairness...I'd rather have Daft Punk play every character ever.

Losta rage over this, and not just for the casting of Efron.
I've never seen the anime myself, but judging from the Dragon Ball abortion that plopped itself on theaters a few years ago, Animes can't really be developed into good movies by Hollywood.

Though, I actually don't mind Efron as an actor, he's actually pretty good, which can't really be said for the rest of his HSM cohorts.

No.
No, no, no, no, noooo.
Not even basing that upon THAT movie.
Or the actor.
Or the idea of the movie including the actor.

No, it's the idea of there actually being an Akira movie.

Oh yeah, and that movie being done by the guy from that OTHER Efron film... uh, forever 18 or whatever?
That and High School Musical 3.

Oh no! A live-action re-make of something that already exists? The original is Ruined Forever!

That said, as someone ignorant and hateful regarding anime:
Metrosexual white kid plays a metrosexual Asian-Caucasian.

What's the loss, exactly?

Well, the Akira animated film was badly written, horribly paced and an hour too long so maybe the new live-action one will be okay. Impossible to judge Zac's suitability for the role as he's never done anything like this, but surely he wouldn't have been hired if people didn't think he could do it justice.

For those unfamiliar with the manga itself or the issues causing concern here I shall validate the following. The only way to make a GOOD movie based on this would be the following;

1) Gritty, down to earth actors.
2) An R/M rating with extreme violence and rather creepy sexual implications.
3) Keep it in a very Japanese metrapolitan setting.
pah, no one exept the japenese will make that.

im off to watch the original movie.

Topics like this make for a good age-check. If someone is raging, you know they're in the 13-20 bracket. If they don't give a damn, it's a safe bet that they're 21 and over and have barely even heard of this kid, much-less care if he's in the movie. Also... PG-13 doesn't really bug me. I honestly barely notice the difference between a PG-13 and an R movie, so I doubt it'll hurt the movie that much.

Ahem.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, had to get that out of my system.

Seriously, I don't hate Zac Efron with the burning fire of a thousand suns or anything, but he's totally wrong for this sort of role. Unlike a lot of people, I don't think that the remake will be irredeemably awful, and I can handle some changes to the tone and story, but I REALLY hope that Efron will not be playing Kaneda. It will never be as good as the absolutely stunning original, but I'll see it anyway.
