I don't know, a couple years ago people would laugh at you if believed Justin Timberlake could become a serious actor.

As much as this movie is bound to suck, I have to say that Zac Efron does have acting chops. He at least displayed some effort in 17 Again, and he actually did pretty good in Me & Orson Welles. There's just a lot of potential in the guy, and it's a shame that the High School Musical "films" will be hanging around him like a ball and chain, making absolutely no one take him seriously until he probably gets older (John Travolta going from Grease to Pulp Fiction, anyone?).

If anything, everyone should be more worried about the PG-13 rating. Honest to god, what were they thinking? That's like remaking Elfen Lied into PG-13. No good can come out of it.

Why does Hollywood likes to ruin what's already a masterpiece?... what's next, Spirited Away featuring Lady Gaga?

If Brenda Song was giving a blowjob to the main character in "The Social Network", then I have no trouble believing Zac Effron would do this.

I mean, seriously....Brenda Song? After you've seen some of the previous shows she's done, it's really creepy seeing her suck on someone's manhood.

Just...fucked up man!

Turning Akira into a PG-13 movie is like bringing back the dead. You might suceed, but it will be less than a shadow of it's former self. It's former self is not allowed to be in the same building as it.

Seriously, one of the best fucking anime movies I have ever seen AND IT HAS TO BE A FUCKING PG-13 MOVIE? WITH ZAC-GODDAMN-EFRON?

I for one think that he can't do it. It's like Justin Bieber playing Duke Nukem in a live-action movie of Duke Nukem: Forever.

EDIT: I should mention that I don't think that Zac Efron himself is the problem, it's more like Justin Bieber right now, having more squealing fangirls than those people from Twilight and every single rock star who ever lived combined which would make the company make the movie appeal to those audiences by bastardizing my favorite movie.

Now I cant really judge Efron's performance simply because I really dont like the HSM and have refused to watch any of them. SOme claim that he is great actor and look at all the money he had earned. Money aint got nothing to do with acting skill. If a studio milks a series enough reagardless of how piss poor the actors are someone is making money. That being said because of Efron's performance in 17 again I thin kI will say that no....no no no no leave akira alone. If americans try to adapt something and change names for the audience like they did with last airbender then its gonna be an abomination of a movie.

You know I'd be pissed at this but, as much as it pains me to say it, Zach Efron is not a terrible actor. I know, I know, HSM is complete and total shit, but the kid does have some talent. We can atleast take solace in the fact he will be better than that emo twat who played Goku in that pitiful excuse for a Dragonball movie that came out some time ago.

Making R rated material in a PG-13 movie just seems like a mistake from here.

Yeah, Zac Efron? Not a really an issue. The problem is far, far deeper than that. Why is it so difficult for Hollywood to stay true to the source material when adapting something to film? Lord knows they have the budget to make it seem authentically Japanese. This consistent whitewashing is pathetic.

To be fair, PG-13 movies don't all have to be fun and games--take a look at Cloverfield. However, it's still not acceptable, given the content of Akira. Do it justice or don't do it at all.
