It's hilarious to see how people get their panties in a bunch over this. Makes me feel weird about liking comic books. I wonder, did people go apeshit like this 10 years ago when Spidey's costume didn't have webbing under the armpits...?
C'mon, give us comic book fans some crediit. Of course we didn't freak out over the webbing on his armpits. We're not that insane.

... we were too busy raging over the change to organic web shooters.

Seriously, though, I understand where you're coming from, but in general, if they don't treat the outfit with some respect, it's usually a pretty good indicator they're not going to take the rest of the property very seriously, either.

Personally, I hate Green Lantern, and nothing about this movie looks to change that, so I'm cool with it being Pluto Nash levels of hideous.

Really the three versions are barely any different. I think they all look pretty meh. But I think most of the problems would be fixed with white gloves and some boots.

Is that so? Well, you'll be happy to know they're using the cartridge web shooters in the reboot. And all we have to put up with to enjoy this change is an otherwise re-designed costume (which, in fairness, looks pretty cool) and a presumably angsty high school teenie setting. Isn't life grand.

Anyway, I don't know Green Lantern from the comic books, but I did immensely enjoy the Justice League cartoon show. GL's costume there looked good, and aside from the symbol on the chest it didn't have a smidge of white in it. And it ditched the silly mask. Yes, I know it wasn't Hal Jordan in the cartoon, but we got to see hundreds of Green Lanterns in that show, and with each one the costume looked different. As I understand it, the 'treating the outfit with respect' point doesn't hold water.

The movie costume's look is not that radically different from what I'm used to, and the green-black combo works. So what if it's been re-designed? Looks change.

You don't care, that's fine.. I'm sure there is a whole boat load of stuff you care about and other don't.

But outright dismissal of views held, especially as you don't know the source and don't seem have an opinion either way is just asking for a less than civil reply.
I do have an opinion, and I've stated it explicitly several times. As for the source, I do know it, I just didn't grow up on this particular hero's comic book adventures.
I was making fun of how people get their knickers in a twist over absolutely irrelevant details of a movie that hasn't even been released yet. I'm allowed to make fun of what I perceive to be hilariously petty, just as others are allowed to call me out on what they perceive to be the behavior of an ass - it's their right, and mine.

Wow. Comic fanboys must be a unique breed seeing as they can whine endlessly because the costume of a big-budget movie adaptation isn't identical to that of the comic.

Also, the rest of the world didn't call, because it didn't care.

In fairness, I imagine that a modern day Moby Dick movie in which the White Whale looked like a giant turd would be met with distress by Melville fans.

I can only speak for myself, not everyone else who dislikes the outfit, but I personally don't care if it's identical to the comic. I just ask that it not suck toes. In that regard, this outfit goes right next to Michael Bay's Transformers as a hideous freakish thing to be burrrrrned.

Hmm, never had a problem with the previous costume,
but i like this one better, it looks good.

If the movie is just plain fun, i'm okay with toes.
Heck, i survived Batnipples, can''t be worse than that.

For what it's worth, I laughed at your reply. I know better than to take the interwebz too seriously. As you said, I've got my opinion, you've got yours... it's all good.

I would like to clarify one thing, though. I don't hate this uniform because it's changed from the comics. (I applaud what Brian Singer did with Wolverine in X-Men, and I'm a diehard fan of Wolverine comics). No, I hate this uniform because it manages to suck independently of anything else in the universe. Take away the green lantern icon and call it "Candy Man"; I would still want to vomit on it.

Personally, I never liked or read the Green Lantern for the same reason I don't like Superman. Too much power. Boring. I'm sure a Green Lantern expert can dismantle this opinion 5 ways to Sunday, but as a casual observer, it seems like his green ring is deus ex machina on steroids. Whatever he wants he gets in green, right? Where's the drama in that?

Now that I think about it, if this outfit is something this guy willed into existence, what does it say about his state of mind? "Ring, give me a suit where my toes and foot bones doth show through! With shoulders made of licorice, and a mask to cover my boredom from the audience!"

I'm all pro individual toes!
Don't know much about the character mythology besides what everyone else knows. But, if the ring will create an optimized uniform for any physical activity and is of alien origin, then I think it will behave with feet exactly as it behaves with hands and don't create normal 'shoes'.

Ha! That reply made me laugh. I like your writing style. ^^

Yeah, I can definitely understand and respect that opinion. I mean, a lot of people who are going to see this movie at the cinema will have no prior knowledge whatsoever of the Green Lantern, and they'll judge the costume with unbiased eyes; I'm looking forward to reactions from the general public once this movie is released.
In the end it all comes down to personal opinion. I'm sure the internet will burn me at the stake for saying so, but I quite liked a lot of the robot designs from the Transformers movies. Go figure.

This movie should be such a no brainer. I guy with a ring that can do anything who hangs out with aliens. But they can't even get the suit right, do they know what they're doing?

It's like that anime Dragonaut, a dude who rides dragons that turn into hot women that do whatever you want. It writes itself, there's no fail in that description, but somehow they still fuck it up.

I don't know, I'll wait for the word of mouth, not the reviews, not the ranting blogs, not that phony moviebob, but the word of mouth. Superman Returns should have done 400mil domestic easy based on the reviews and fanboish blogs.....but it didn't.

Its still a bit "meh" They are trying to much to look organic, and I do't like all the light flowing over the body. The only time he should be covered in light is when he flys imo. In some of the trailer it looks like the light eminate from his body and not the ring....

Well I have to admit. It's the first time a costume has clearly actually gotten sillier from the comics.
You forgot about Batman's arch nemesis bat nipples. Bat nipples was part of an evil plot to remove the credibility movie audiences gave the Batman franchise following the two Batman movies directed by Tim Burton. Diabolical!

is there a particular reason they have to have them white streaks all over the costume?

what its not believable if its all a solid color? o_O
