But yes I think the flaw so far is that they are trying to do standalone-ish episodes while at the same time trying to develop an on going story arc.

Like the children being monsters and the giant sea worm could have easily been standalone episodes from past seasons.

And so far these last 2 episodes felt too filler-ish.

Really strong opening, the stuff with Jack and Ashi was kinda over the place. Even the very dark ending of Jack seemingly away of commit suicide felt really rushed. In general, this seems like it would have been improved as two separate episodes, I was more engaged with the Scotmans daughters than the Ashi's "What is wuv" part. It seems to have been the weakest episode thus far, but that in no way makes it bad.

My guess is that Jedi Ghost Scotman will end up fighting the Bruce Lee demon ghost.
The only thing I cared about of this episode is the Ashi and Jack interactions since its clearly the overall story arc this whole season is building on.
I feel the opposite, I only truely enjoyed the Scotsman bits and thought the Jack and Ashi parts were okay

Agree.

We've had Ashi for a couple of episodes now, and we got the ladybird realization, it's basically an extension of that, spelled out bluntly with the totally expected friendship/romance blossoming. The Scotsman is the most beloved side-character and it immediately opens with him dying, and us learning what he's been up to and how things progressed, it's kind of a no brainier that would automatically be more interesting.

Hmm, previous episode felt kinda slow after dynamically unveiling plot in first 3 episodes. This one on the other hand felt like too much events being cranked into one episode. It didn't kill my enjoyment, but i can get where the complaints about pacing are coming from.

shows pretty dark when ur protag walks off at the end of the episode to commit suicide
Oh, and it managed to be one of the darkest and the funniest episodes so far, at the same time.

That last pick kinda reminds me of that time Jack met the spirit of spring(?). The backgrounds are kind of similar.Maybe we will see her, who knows? Judging from the pics I hope we get to see Ashi do some karate raving like Jack.

All I can say is her hair makes her look much more cuter than the spikey Illana look she always sported.

Okay, thoughts on the new episode:

Seeing all the people Jack helped again was nice... not to mention nostalgic... shame they couldn't fit in more, but eh, what can you do?

Speaking of nostalgic, anyone notice the Astro and Popeye cameos?

I know the show is on Adult Swim now... but some moments really caught me off guard, one in particular. You know the one. (Okay, more of a certain line to be specific...)

And it's nice to see Ashi opening up even more and losing the dark girl look. (Also, that was ashes, not a body suit? Jesus Christ that was a disturbing revelation!)

Still, she does look really cute now... what?

You also have to consider the sudden lack of blood since Episode 3. I was worried that was all they were gonna do with Adult Swim's freedom, but I almost never expected T and A. And to be honest it was beautiful T and A.

But now that the episode is over, I am bit dissipointed in one thing mainly the ending.

The horsemen that stalked Jack the whole time and when we finally reached the climax of it, it was rather rushed and short. We have no idea who these Warrior spirits are and why they torment Jack for a failure we don't know as of yet.

I mean instead of wasting time with Scaramouche who apperently did nothing in the end anyway, mabye you could have developed more of that.

Also no Spartans and No Haunted House girl now grown up. But Da Sa Moo Rai and Rave made a reappearence :p

Same thing from Episode 1: "You've forgotten your purpose! You've forsaken us!" I think Phil LaMarr gave us some insight into how we should look at this:

[Jack] changed a lot in some ways and not enough in others. He has not aged the way he would've expected to over those 50 years. And really, the story in a lot of ways is about ? you've got a hero, you've got a hero's journey ? but what happens when the hero gets sidelined on his journey and gets stuck? If you haven't accomplished your goal in 50 years, are you still a hero? Who are you? A lot of it is an explanation of that."
The failure is that after 50 years Jack's quest is still incomplete. The suffering continues. Aku's grasp chokes the past, present, and future. Hope is lost. The rider is practically a manifestation of Jack's despair and his feelings of inadequacy in the face of his inability to vanquish Aku.

Regardless another thing I am now convinced is Jack and Ashi are gonna do it with each other, I be surprised if they don't even kiss romantically in the lips.

Heck the amount of stuff this episode got away with I be more surprised if they don't show Sex.

Really dug the last episode. The cameos from the Woolies, the three archers, and the rave was nice. I was kind of hoping Da Samurai would have followed through on his promise to become a true samurai so that he would join the inevitable final battle, though his scene was still funny. I also heard a rumor that, if true, would be a really nice detail.

The woman who points Ashi to where Jack is after she leaves Da Samurai's bar may be the baby Jack rescued in the last episode of Season 4, now all grown up

For the most part I liked the episode. My one complaint is the "running down the mountain" bit. I accept feats of strength to a degree (cleaving metal, Jumping Good, the stone throw, and even tearing apart robots) but picking up someone and then using them to bulldoze through...I don't know, a hundred or so people with seemingly greater ease than a 18-wheeler? That feels...well a bit too brutish. Most every other feat performed by the protagonists has tended to leverage their greater skill, but that was pure 'hulk smash' raw power that feels out of place for the franchise.

Alright I can't deny it any longer.

This season is disapointing and not because of what is actually there, but the big problem is what I was fearing from when they announced this season.

IT IS RUSHED!!!

The pacing is too fast, all the events and resolutions happened too quickly and un-eventfully and its entirely because its only 10 episodes with 30 minute run time each.

For example when Jack stopped himself from commiting Suicide and defeated that ghostly horsemen. That Horsemen was grossly underdeveloped. We have no idea who that is and why? Where did Jack began to be stalked by this being?

And for this episode and I hope it isn't the end, but Ashi is met by her mother again and they fight, but sadly she is killed off. And Jack does not even know she exists. Because of that we will never know who she is and why she worships Aku and why she wants Jack dead, it feels like she has a personal stake at this.

I mean instead of wasting our time with unnecessary things like the insides of a Giant Worm, the children corrupted, some of the call backs (The Rave, And the Samoorai were not cool callbacks) and fucking SCARAMOUCHE!!! They could have added something that furthered the storyline of these interesting plotlines.

And again another problem is that the fastforwarded 50 years, who knows what else has happened between the seasons.

But still this season is grossly rushed to tell finale of Jack and the arcs and charcaters you introduced deserves at least 20 episodes and thats a conservitive esitimate. I think it should have 20 episodes each an hour long or 30 episodes.

I am sorry but this is disapointing. I mean the final episode is Jack facing off Aku, and its gonna be done in 30 minutes. And Jack has been shown in the past to easily outmatch Aku in every time they combat so where is the tension? Which is why I found Aku to be an unintimidating, failure of a villain played now for laughs as the series progressed.
