Samus's new kicks

Ok, ok, think about this, the yellow parts on the bottom of the shoe and back of the heel, those are the "Jet" in "Jet boots", The jets on the BOTTOM of the shoe, allow for increased ability to jump, the jets on the BACK of the large heel, allow her to propel her foot forward instead of upward, and so, kick, Really. F***ing. Hard.
Also, the heels look perfectly able to flip closer to the soles of her feet and act more like regular shoes for situations where she is either
A) Wearing a power suit.
B) Does not need to kick and could use more jump, and so could aim more jets downward.

It may be stupid looking, and I may have thought this through more than the people who actually put them there, but it makes sense.

So why isn't any body complaining about peach and zelda kicking ass in heels? or is this just about how badly they stick out?
Peach doesn't fight in her world, also she's a cartoon that abides by that logic example: Floating with skirt, taking bricks to the head that shrink her down in size, mushrooms increasing size.

Zelda is an archer and mage, not fighting with melee, when she does fight with melee she changed to Sheek if you recall, a character not wearing heels.

OT:

I just wanted to mention on other sites, I've gotten a lot of either flack or excuses being made for heels, including, but not limited to:

-Calvery wear heels
-Raiden and Chell wear heels and kick ass
-They're rocket heels increasing her mobility

Despite not mentioning anything about the subject, I got a lot of people pushing that "it's not objectifying women" so there's a lot of people pushing excuses so hard they're projecting arguments that were never posed.

Here's what I posed to them, and anyone who defends the heels:

Can you, in anyway tell me any advantage she has with these heels over salvaging her boots from her power armor? They're preequipped with double/higher jumping, are made of metal and can kick harder, and don't have the negative effects of heels: Lower grip, higher risk of breaking an ankle, lower balance.

Rendered by me because I'm sick and felt inclined.

We have to remember here, they are JET BOOTS! This means they can do whatever jet boots do.

Meh...I'll admit that practically speaking its stupid but i'm not really bothered by it. Hell, if anything the yellow bits on the heels and bracelets bother me more. The yellow just does not mesh well with the rest of the zero suit color scheme.

Because Princesses and formality. Also, while they both wear heels, I don't think they're that massively high for no reason. And, hey, it's not like they haven't been wearing their heels from the beginning, unlike Samus, who stomps around in boots.

im sure theres sexism in gaming, there is in every other media as well, but you couldnt have picked a worse example

also i literally cant see her ass in OP's image, in fact as a male i find this outrageous, im gonna tell the patriarchy!
You lose credibility when you open your argument with name calling. Also a worse example? How is the addition of high heels to a suit that she is supposed to wear while interfacing with her power armor for no logical reason other than she is a woman and high heels are attractive NOT an example of sexism? And the rocket boots aren't a good justification, because as I said in an earlier post, Haloid managed to make more respectable rocket boots than that, and that ended with a sexy dance!
i shouldnt have called him names, regardless its not the high heels, which i agree are out of place, but his criticism of the zero suit itself, which honestly are getting ridiculous, are women now not allowed to show any part of her body for any reasn whatsoever?

that the kind of attitude that really annoys me

Didn't Sakurai mention they added them to her to justify her abilities in the new Smash Bros? They don't fit into any kind of Metroid canon, so I'm not fussed on it.

If they wanted a character with heels, why didn't they put Bayonetta in it? They own her now AND its consistent with her character and let Samus keep her big stompy boots.

The zero suit never bothered me. Some sort of under armor would be needed for her suit and it looks like it would work better than the two pieces she has been depicted in in the past. The poses that they put her in are randomly sexulized at times though.

As for the heels, always a bad idea for a chracter of her type. They are also ugly as sin.
The idea of her fighting in zero suit when she has a much better alternative seems dumb to me, but I know why it was included.

But those heels. Like seriously.
Not only are they impractical, they are hideous.

Zelda doesn't wear heels.

Anyway, I see why people object to Samus's high heels due to how it fundamentally betrays her original design notes, I personally object to them because she doesn't even *walk* properly in those heels. She does some awkward crab shuffle. Not to mention the heel itself is placed wrong. It's overall badly designed.

You know, I can abide by Rule of Cool, the impracticality of something is outweighed by how cool it is.
But there's a fine line where something crosses from "cool" into "stupid".

Giving Samus Aran rocket-pack techno high-heels has not only pole-vaulted over that line but it wins the Gold Medal in Stupid.

Sorry, I don't know why I did that. I'll just say that the heels are really freaking annoying, though somewhat functional. Now I'll just show myself out in shame.
Functional? In what way? They push the ankle and all your lower leg tendons into very unnatural positions and shifts your center of balance, and after a while can cause debilitating pain when wearing normal footwear.

He isn't criticizing the design for it simply being sexualized, he is criticizing it for being sexualized and it making no sense at all within the context of the suit and clashing with the tone of the Metroid universe and that is the problem with so many instances of sexualizes characters. The characters of RWBY are sexualized, but it works, why? Because it fits with the tone of the RWBY universe. Bayonetta is sexualized, but it works, why? Because it fits with the overall goofy nature of her world and the sexually dominant nature of her personality. Poison Ivy is sexualized, but it works, why? Because her approach to problems involves seducing men and therefore it would make sense that she dresses skimpily. Samus having high heels when she is a professional career bounty hunter in a consistently serious setting where no one else dresses like that makes no sense whatsoever. THAT is what is pissing people off.

Occasionally Peach does fight in her world, and your right about Zelda, so I give you that. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Samus double jump ability come from her jet pack and not her boots? Anyway I do agree the attachments are ugly as hell, but why are we trying to bring reality into a fighting game where you can lay a dinosaur who walks upright, a ninja frog, and an anthropomorphic fox with bionic legs. Though I guess it is more about it not fitting with her character.

I don't know where Zero Suit came from so I could be wrong here but...

Zero Suit is what she wears underneath her regular armor, correct?

Could someone explain how that giant spike of a heel fits into this footing?

Unless her foot is made out of a jelly-fish like material for easy collapsing, I'm not sure how her new stripper heel is fitting. There's a minor heel in the suit but there's no way that her giant spike is fitting in that thing...
Probably because she isn't wearing those heels underneath the suit? I mean, those heels are clearly not part of the Zero Suit as you can see the Suit's actual foot within those Jet Heels. Plus, since Samus and Zero Suit Samus are different characters now, she could easily be wearing the heels just as Zero Suit Samus.

As for the heels themselves, I do agree they're kind of ridiculous, though quite honestly I'm confused by the outrage. Not the complaints, mind you, as normal heels are impractical in every way except looking taller and those heels are not only high, but clashes with the rest of the outfit. But the outcries of betrayal seem kind of silly. Like it or not, Samus has always been portrayed as a fan service martial since her first game. In fact, I'd call the pose much better than her introduction in Super Smash Bros Brawl. At least here she isn't curving her spine to show of her boobs and but and the suit doesn't have boob slots this time around. But yeah, the heels are silly, it would been more practical to give her rocket boots instead of rocket heels.

Pretty much, yes.
Zelda and Peach are princesses, it's in their job description to be ladylike.

Samus is a fighter, and you don't wear heels in a fight, unless you're a cowboy(about 2" so their feet don't slide in the stirrup).
Plus they look horrible.

But super smash bros is an incredibly goofy game. I would understand if people were getting pissed if these things were in a legitimate metroid game, but they're not. They are part of a fighting game that has nothing to do with the canon of the series.

I'd still say that's a really weak reason to be that mad. Especially since its just heels. At the end of the day, I'd chalk this up to stupid costumes decisions, not a betray of the character itself. Why? Well first off, Metroid does have certain fan-service things since the beginning of the series. Metroid, Metroid II, and Super Metroid put Samus in a bikini if you put the game fast enough. Super Metroid and Metroid Fussion originally had Samus nude when she died. Yet, its because she wears high heels that NOW she's being portrayed as sexy? Heck, considering the last game Zero Suit Samus starred in, I'd say that this game does her much more justice. Like, did everyone forget Brawl's intro pic to Zero Suit Samus?

Now that picture is an example of bad betrayal of the character. In that picture she is bending over backwards to show off both her boobs and her butt. Not only that, her suit has boob windows for each breast. Compare that to the one everyone's complaining about. She is no longer posing in a ridiculous way to show off her female parts. Her Suit now is more realistic in that they are no longer giving each breast a pocket. But because of the heels (which are completely impractical, don't get me wrong), THIS is the betrayal of a character? Besides, it's clear that the heels are not part of the suit as you can see that not only do they look completely different (not to mention ugly) than the rest of the suit, but you can see that she is clearly wearing them.

Yeah, they probably should've gone with a different design. The high heels really don't fit Samus's character. For some reason, I could really imagine Zero Suit Samus with Star Fox-style boots (yes, I know they're not actually boots in-universe). Or maybe she could have the boots from her regular suit (possibly with a different color).
