I actually like the name. Me and my GF tried to go for the prize, but didn't make it in time.
Still, all they get are the games? Not even the physical copies? You'd think they'd get some swag...

Gonna be hard to explain to their child in fifteen years why they named him after a videogame character that no one even remembers.

Wait, what is with the bully posts? Why would he be bullied?
Cause his name is Dovahkiin and not something like 'Frederick.'

Naming your child is one of the most important things you can do to help him succeed. Yes, employers WILL discriminate based on name.

People should not name children, living human beings who will have to put up with the name for 80+ years, using the same criteria they name house pets.

Naming your cat Dovahkiin is awesome. Naming your child Dovakiin is horrible.

Sure the kid will be bullied, who isn't when the are a kid?
I mean my name is MERLIN, you dont get much nerdier than that, and I love my name! it makes me feel unique.
Aw shit, I thought I had the most unique name on this site.

OT: Is it really worse than naming your kid Zelda? Or Spring Tripp (I actually knew a girl once who had that name)? There are odd names floating around out there, and other than the occasional weird look, the kid probably won't be that affected. Besides, if he dislikes it, Tom is a completely boring normal name.

Also, to all the people bemoaning the parents for doing this for the contest (which I doubt, they probably did it because they're massive fans), is it really worse than naming your child at the whim of your mother's bitching?

Why are people assuming stupid things over a name is beyond me. MASSIVE overreaction over a name.

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with this name.
If it IS an issue, just call him Tom in public and in business when he's older. He can tell his mates that his actual first name is dovahkiin, I would personally think it's awesome.

Hell, on my birth certificate my my first name and middle name are swapped around. I rarely use the first name on my birth certificate, and only a few people actually know it.

Honestly, pretty interesting decision, and it won't really impact him in any way. And he basically has the perfect fit for a haloween costume of the guy in the trailer! Or his skyrim character that he may make when he grows up...

Okay silliness aside, he basically has a really awesome nickname since birth.

"Hi I'm Tom, but my friends call me Dovahkiin."

But yeah if people discriminate or his parents will think so, Tom is a pretty common name so there is absolutely no problem with his name at all...

The clue is that they named their other child "Kyari".

"I am Dovahkiin the Dragonborn!....Oh wait I meant walking joke"

Also I'm naming my abortion Dovahkiin in honour of the guy.

"SON, IT'S BECAUSE I WANTED VIDEO GAMES."

^ This. It's such a sad, but hilarious tale.

"Commander Kiin" anyone?

I don't have anything against weird names, I would name my child after some game character or something (naming twins Dante and Vergil would be cool), but one thing that always concerns me is that you will have to use both your first and last name. While being called Dovakhiin in a circle of friends sounds kinda cool, introducing yourself as Dovakhiin Smith or Brown sounds stupid.

I've heard worse names, that's for sure.

Wow, someone actually did this, I wonder if they'll change his name once they get the rewards?

Edit: Also if that picture is to be believed the parents have two copies of Skyrim, one for PC and one for Xbox 360, excessive much?
My wife and I do that all the time. She does not like playing ANYTHING on the PC... so there ya go.

Yeah, bull. Kids judge by names so do adults. I don't how many articles I've read saying that employers do as well.

The difference is Zelda is an actual name. Spring is also an actual name. It's not a made up nonsense word.

I have to agree. I do understand peoples concern with the naming of the child in question because as a person who does not have a English/American name it did cause some issues when I was growing up.

However as it is short and easy to pronounce I have learned to deal with it. In my adult life and so far there have been no "attacks" made at me because of my name.

My friend on the other hand calls himself "Andrew" when he has a name from China. He prefers everyone here to call him Andrew instead of his real name.

The baby can do the same as he grows up. Like you said. At this point its all about how the parents teach him to deal with this if it starts to become a issue for him. Especially at a early age.

Dovahkiin Kellermeyer, eh? Now, I thought from the start this contest would end in disaster, and I was right.

And yet, I must admit I find the name Dovahkiin Kellermeyer to be quite badass. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.*

*Still pretty bad of course, that parents would do that, but the kid lucked out in the surname department.

I wonder if someone in Bethesda is laughing awkwardly in his office and muttering repeatedly to himself, "I didn't realize someone would be actually that fucking stupid to go along with that joke challenge."

It may seem like a cool name, but all I see is greedy parents who would rather save money on video games than give their child a name that won't condemn him to bullying.

The advantage of having the last name Kellermeyer is that it sounds nordic enough, that bethesda's psuedo-nordic name actually sounds like it fits.

Dohvakiin Kellermeyer just sounds like an unusually ethnic Scandinavian name.

I'm fascinated thinking about how the parents are going to explain the name to him when he grows up.

Anyone remember Sarah McCain Palin Ciptak? No? Nobody will remember this future nerd either. Can't be that bad, though, I met a woman named after a Battlestar character, and she was a hottie, and the name suited her perfectly.
