"That's a pretty sweet prize for something as simple as saddling your kid with the worst name since Sue..."

Heyyyyyyyyyyy....

(And for the record, I think "Dovakhiin" is a cool name.)

Well the kid better develop an awesome shouting voice.

Also, funny thing is that our generation of 20-30 year olds that play Skyrim at the moment will quite like be the ones that supervise and hire his generation... And we will know where his name came from...

Kids can get teased for their name no matter what it is.

With such an unusual name i really think the playground could tip either way. (At least he's gonna have fun picking up chicks in college)

You could say that for literally every name ever. If that's the case, just don't name your kids. Let them pick once they're old enough to figure it out. If we're that scared of it.

People will get bullied because of their name regardless of what it is. I don't understand why people would instantly assume that just because this kids is more unusual he'll get bullied more just because of his name. I'd love to have a more exotic name than what I currently have, sounds so plain and boring.

Wait, what is with the bully posts? Why would he be bullied?

By the time he gets to kindergarden, 4-5 years will have passed. 4-5 year olds don't play Skyrim and they'll think it's a Serbian name or something. "Dovahkiin" is exotic, but it isn't something like naming your kid "Megatron" or "Darth Vader".

When he gets to Elementary school, kids still won't be playing Skyrim. I doubt people in grades 2-6 would play an old RPG they'll probably never have heard of.

When he gets to Highschool, Skyrim will be so far behind him that only a few hardcore RPG enthusiasts/nerds will give him a wink or a nudge and talk about how cool it is. While everyone else just knows him as "That kid who sounds like he's from Serbia". I don't see any of the logic you guys are presenting, he's not going to be bullied at all.

Furthermore, people criticizing the parents think they're doing this for the free swag. They're not, they're probably doing it because they're diehard fans.

It's no different than having a video game themed wedding or investing geek culture into any other part of your life. Although this is a bit extreme.
Totally this.

Also, the kid has a normal middle name. He can do like any other kid that was given a strange first name and a normal middle name, use the middle name in school and the first name only comes about on official documents. I've known several people when I went to school that used their middle name as their first on their assignments and the teacher called them by their middle name in class.

So if this kid does encounter problems, it will happen very rarely.

I intend to dress as an Imperial Commisar at my wedding, just saying.

I wonder what "Dovahkiin" would shorten out to.

My guess is "Keen."
So that gives him the chance to eventually be "Commander Keen" as well.
I wonder how many Steam keys that will earn him.

Yeah... someone's going to go by their middle name, or just "Bob", maybe even get it changed once legally allowed to do so (I wonder if that would affect the deal with Bethesda...).

Okay, you got some free games, and the promise of future games. What if Bethesda goes under? What if they merge or get acquired, will the terms still apply?

What if by the time this kid graduates high school, their namesake will be nearly two decades old and long forgotten by the gaming community, and general community at large?

That last one isn't actually a "what if", it's a "definitely going to happen". So, good luck, Bob, I hope you find a nice cheap "no questions asked"-type "nursing home" for your parents in their "Golden Years".

So after ruining a girl's name with "Kyari" (the hell) you made another child very, very unhappy for the next 18 or so years.

Pretty sure if someone named a kid "Andariel" or "Boo" people would've noticed something. Or naming kid "Morgan Freeman" as first and middle names.

That is true. I know a girl who's middle name is Rose and she prefers to use it. Even teachers used that name to call her.

That baby...he's just too red. Forget the name, I'd be more worried about him looking like a tomato all his life. Unless it's just the camera, in which case we can go back to worrying about the name.
Babies look like that when they're newborn.

I tell you, life ain't easy for a boy named Sue.
Whether that goes for Dovahkiin as well, only time will tell.

My parents named me Duke Nukem and I've struggled with having used to be awesome ever since.

I doubt he is gonna get bullied for the name, the kids he is gonna go to school with will have no idea what a dragonborn is. Most likely they will just think its a foreign name, I think it sounds a little arabian.

I thought you made a typo. In any case, Batman bin Superman is still more goofy sounding and it still makes no difference in your example.
That is just your (wrong) opinion and has no basis whatsoever in reality.
Unless you want to be a politician or a public person your name does not matter.
What engineer will you hire: Dovahkiin; nice character, phd or Bob; sub par education and depressed.
Clearly Batman bin Suparman would be the best choice.

Look, I'm just waiting to see how long you'll go on with this "taking the internet seriously" gag.
Okay, i understand. It`s okay to give up.

Considering their other child is named Kyari - this isn't too much of a step up. Can easily be shortened to Dova as well.

Although, what really surprises me is the boy's middle name. Tom. Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer. How out of place does that seem?
I have a friend whose name is John David **** but everyone just calls him David. The same could apply fot the Kiin here. Who's to say he won't find firends that *gasp* won't tease him? I think the kid will be fine.
