That baby...he's just too red. Forget the name, I'd be more worried about him looking like a tomato all his life. Unless it's just the camera, in which case we can go back to worrying about the name.
Even his skin tone fits into the game.

Red guard.

I dunno, that's actually a pretty badass name. I feel like everyone said his name, the main theme song for Skyrim would start blasting in the background somewhere and then he'd fight a dragon.

Wait, what is with the bully posts? Why would he be bullied?

By the time he gets to kindergarden, 4-5 years will have passed. 4-5 year olds don't play Skyrim and they'll think it's a Serbian name or something. "Dovahkiin" is exotic, but it isn't something like naming your kid "Megatron" or "Darth Vader".

When he gets to Elementary school, kids still won't be playing Skyrim. I doubt people in grades 2-6 would play an old RPG they'll probably never have heard of.

When he gets to Highschool, Skyrim will be so far behind him that only a few hardcore RPG enthusiasts/nerds will give him a wink or a nudge and talk about how cool it is. While everyone else just knows him as "That kid who sounds like he's from Serbia". I don't see any of the logic you guys are presenting, he's not going to be bullied at all.
This, pretty much.

I'm seeing a surprising amount of "durr hurr he gon' get beaten" responses to this thread. But I honestly, sincerely doubt that's going to happen. At least not just for his name...

I also agree with:

Furthermore, people criticizing the parents think they're doing this for the free swag. They're not, they're probably doing it because they're diehard fans.

It's no different than having a video game themed wedding or investing geek culture into any other part of your life. Although this is a bit extreme.
So, yes. The parents probably could have come up with a much, much better name. That doesn't make them bad parents though, and it doesn't mean the kid is going to live a hard life just because of the name.

I don't understand all the hate over the name. People name their kids stupid shit all the time, like Bonquisha, Lakwanda and other variations.

I wish my name was Dovahkiin. Seriously it's badass.

Also you could call your little kid Dov for short. It works.

I wonder what "Dovahkiin" would shorten out to.

My guess is "Keen."
My guess is 18 years of being bullied.
One can hope, if only to serve as a demonstration of why there should be laws against stupid parents naming their children.

I wonder how the kid is going to feel later, knowing his name was just an excuse to get free shit. Imagine being told one day that you were only blessed with your name because it got your parents a free McChicken nuggets. Every time you write the word Hamburglar on a form, you are reminded of how your parents casually exploited you.

I thought "Keen" was a cute name. But I seriously hope that kid grows up to be the greatest LARPer the world has ever known.

I was hoping their daughter was named 'Pepsi' from some lifetime supply promotion from years back.

Aside from being a victim of marketing...I see nothing wrong with this. Dovahklin isn't a terrible name since it probably won't be used throughout a series of games. As the years go by it'll become less and less obvious and the child can always change their name if things should turn out bad.

So wait....what was the stipulation of the agreement.

Couldn't they change his name after a year?

Bah. Accidental double post. Editing for something new.

After reviewing their web comic, all their kids have odd names, so really I don't think his is going to be "the worst"

And besides, almost every kid born nowadays has some kind of made up or interesting name. I'm sure he'll survive.

I'd say if he grows up in an environment where their are a lot of first and second generation Immigrants then his name will fit right in. If I have a son his name will be Gannon and a daughter will be Zelda. the second daughter would be named Samus so it could be worse.

Well...at least "Dovahkiin" sounds like an actual name. They could pass it off as being Slavic or Scandinavian or something.

It's a hell of a lot better than naming your kid "Turok". Anyone remember that debacle?

He'll get bullied because his name is outlandish and different. Simple as that.

Kids can be evil little bastards.

I'm too ashamed of myself for getting the country music reference to talk about this. I guess this is what happens when you have parents who both enjoy different varieties of country music (a genre which I cannot stand to listen to).
Here's the song if anyone else wants to join in in the fun:
