Cheers science... Calling us fat and depressed will REALLY cheer us up...

Besides, me and a couple of my mate who play game are not fat nor depressed.

Well, I'm a pretty darn sociable person who enjoys hitting up clubs and other large gatherings of people, and I work in a position that requires me to deal with a lot of people. I have had bouts of depression in life, but they were directly related to very stressful situations in my life involving work, family, etc... However, not gaming. Could stand to lose a few more pounds, but I'm well on my way to doing so, and I'm far from being fat.

... Then again, I've met a lot of gamers, so... Well... Maybe. :p

Then again, most gamers I meet are twigs, actually.

Well, that makes me sad.
Perhaps I'll feel better if I ate something.
Probably chocolate, chocolate is my only friend, I have no-one else.

This just in! Scientists are fat, depressed, socially excluded losers with nothing better to work on than blowing the governments money on so called "experiments."

First thought, Science can go take those findings and shove them up there...

Second thought, I'm not fat

To be fair, the CDC lists that stuff for a reason (RABIES mostly.) And obviously playing games is less dangerous than being bitten by a dog in the immediate sense: you don't exactly have chunks disappear from your legs while playing games.

There's also the argument to be made that people who play games too much (not getting enough exercise) are in non-immediate danger: that is, while they're not going to need medical treatment right this second, they could be at a much higher risk for things like diabetes or heart attacks in the future than the risk is that you'll need treatment for a dog bite.

Anyway, the people who funded this study need a sharp smack across the forehead. We KNOW this information already, and since the methods used in the study were flawed the data you've collected is now worthless.

Guys, chill out. Correlation is not causation. Don't take things from this study that arn't there. Look at it this way: What hobbies are available for people who are already fat, depressed, and socially anxious? Its not sports, ill tell you that for free. Just because video games are a natural choice for people who are "Fat depressed losers" doesn't mean that you have to be. I bet if you do a study, you will find that people who play video games are smarter too.

That is a waste of time and resources. If your entire life revolves around one thing: games, work, sex, etc., then yes, you are likely to be depressed. I just prefer the Internet and Video Games to Motion Pictures and Television for my alone down-time. Plus, I have never been fond of these sample studies being attached to psychology. I can see the benefits of a random sample when it comes to opinion or an experimental new piece of science, but when you bring in psychology there are many things that can skew your data. For example, there was a similar study done about pornography years ago, which yielded similar results, so does that mean that Video Games and Porn just prey on the depressed, ignorant masses? Ask Stephen Spielberg or Hideo Kojima (for the Video Game side, of course) about that and I think you'll get a completely different answer.

I like how internet usage is a health risk now.

Also, I tend to use the internet less than any of my non-game playing friends. I'm too busy playing games, you see.

(That is assuming that here internet usage means your garden-variety browser-accessed internet, rather than ventrilo or game servers.)

I'm not fat, either. To eat you first have to stop playing games.

Obviously this study is 100% Correct anyone who says otherwise is completely wrong. Science is always right and you should just accept that if you're a gamer you're fat and depressed. Luckily I'm a casual gamer so I'm average weight and not fat. See ya later fatties

The article doesn't say anything about the samples. As in how many actually were players and what other demographics they belonged to. It wouldn't be a good sample if they polled them all from a ghetto. How did they sample? I must know.

My first question to his response is simple. If you sampled people aged 19-90 WTF are you doing when you say they should be playing Freeze Tag?!
