There was Super Mario Galaxy. After getting 120 stars as Mario, I got 70 as Luigi, and said, "Screw it, this is pointless."

There's also some SRPGs that's this is happened to me on, like Disgaea DS (Baal is a level WHAT now? My dudes are Lv. 120! I'm not grinding to 5000!)

Valkyrie Profile for the DS pulled the stunt of having the final boss being the only enemy able to attack all of my dudes at once, AND the ability to stun, AND having 70,000+ HP when my guys bearly break 5,000. Not to mention that it's a multi-stage battle, and there's no opportunity to grind, I'm supposed to wing it. Screw this, I don't care enough about the plot to see the end.

I played Fire Emblem DS, and finished it on normal difficulty. I tried the hardest difficulty and quit when my paladin was dispatched by a Lv. 3 Thief. Handily.

Naruto Broken Bonds-
I spent an hour Doing Choji's Missions and once I got the Achievement I said I'll fight him while I'm here. So I did and won but the game seemed pissed and dropped me through the floor and I was stuck falling forever in a never ending white backdrop with a sky. So I reset and loaded and guess what? The Game Auto Saved in the ~A~ Rank bug. I was so pissed.

Devil may Cry 3.
I remember reading Game Informers review on the special edition. They heaped praises on the game.
I played the very first game a while ago and liked it, so I took GI opinion and went out and brought it.
It was damn hard, as expected, but it was pretty fun, and I tried my best to get used to it.
The story was mildly interesting, and I might have gotten into it if it wasn't for Dante's annoying-as-fuck party-dude speech. it was aggravating me to death, and ruining any chance of me caring about the story.
I got as far as that cut scene where Dante is ambushed by Lady on her motorcycle.
Lady shoots a rocket at Dante. He jumps on it, and rides it like a surfboard while whooping and cheering like an fucking retarded reject from an 80's film.
I swear to God I didn't even let the cut scene finish, I took the disc out of the PS2 and returned it to the store.
There was something so unholy and demented about the lameness of that fucking scene that haunts me to this day, and no demon in the fire-hell could replace my disgust with the fucking lameness of DMC 3's Dante.
Oh, and I definitely got the 'Screw This' vibe from the Two Worlds demo. I hated it the first few seconds of play. The graphics, controls, and game play were complete shit.
I shut it down and deleted it after almost being killed in my first encounter with two wolves, and then being finished off by a wandering Orc.

I'm going to get right to the point.

Have you ever had a "Screw This Game" moment?

I just had mine. Playing Far Cry 2, which for some reason dosen't have an auto-save feature. I did a lot of missions, went to a bus stop, and the game crashes. Easily an hour of progress lost. "Whatever", I thought. I should have saved, my bad. I start the game up again and do a couple of the missions. "Aha! I've learned my lesson, I'll save".

The game freezes in the menu screen.

On a sidenote, should I keep playing Far Cry 2, or should I just give up?

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses, I decided to push trough with Far Cry 2, but then, it can go fuck itself.
i had that with farcry 2!! that exact thing almost, also the monotonous repeat missions drive me insane!!!

i don't understand why....but I'm still playing fallout 3...
Because Bethesda somehow coded heroin into the disc, at least that's what I tell myself when I'm yet again playing into the wee hours of the morning.

My friend and I were playing the first champions of norrath on the ps2, we were doing pretty well, getting some choice loot, then my friend gets mobbed by like 6 guys (he was playing wizard) and he gets killed, and I'm low on health so I can't fend off the mob and die as well. When the game loaded back at our last save point, it turns out we hadn't saved in almost 3 hours. Never touched that game until I got the sequel.

In Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, there was this one area where I had to 20 puzzles that were incredibly tediouse (this part in the game was optional) where I had to push blocks around to get to the exit. It took me three hours to complete, and that was even with a GameFAQs guide open. Then I run into an incredibly hard boss battle which is located right outside save terminals (at the time, I didn't realize there was a subterminal I could save at), and lost and had to do the whole thing over again, and I wasted a Friday. Putting a boss right outside critical save points IS A DICK MOVE.
But I got over that, and it's still one of my favorite games.

Oh yeah, and in Onechanbara: Bikini Sammurai Squad, when I get a powerup, I always die because it ironicly drains power, and the battles are so long and boring, and there was a boss fight I was having trouble on, and then right after I beat it, I had to fight FIVE MORE OF THEM. That is crappy design. Who thought doing that was a good idea in the first place?!

And in the old Pokemon games (this isn't really the programers' fault, I think, it just gets frustrating) but my Pokemon always beat themselves to death when in confusion, and when I want to catch a Pokemon, the game reads my mind and turns every hit into a critical hit, killing the Pokemon.

Not truly a "Screw This Game" moment, but close (I kept playing, but was getting more and more pissed as I played).

I was playing oblivion, and had... Well, to avoid spoilers, I had to steal something for a quest, and got caught as I slinked away from the building I was in. Naturally, I couldn't pay the fine, as then I couldn't keep my illicit goods. So I did the only natural thing, went to jail, busted out about thirty seconds later, and raided the evidence locker. Unfortunately for me, I raided the evidence locker on the fly, and the jailkeeper told me to stop. I "resisted arrest", and hauled @$$.

Now for the STG moment: I ran, and this guy followed me. A few more came in pursuit as well. After I'd left town and was running away (in, what I comically learned shortly after, was the wrong direction), I probably had about three or four guards in pursuit. The jailkeep, a few town guards, and one of the gate guards. Doing a quick roundabout (correcting my earlier mistake, and getting several scratches on the way around), I jumped into a river and swam towards the Imperial City, hoping to lose the guards and clear my bounty with Christophe. Mind you, I was in Leyawiin (however it's spelled). Quite the long river to travel, as a Google search for "Oblivion Map" can attest to. I had traveled halfway up the river before the guards gave up and turned back, and finally quick traveled to the Imperial City. All-in-all, the river chase took about five to ten real-world minutes, and was filled with several close calls that made me want to cry, because the last time I'd saved, I was in a jail cell. Not a fan of spending another twenty minutes running from the coppers.

Oh, and I completed the quest.

On Farcry 2 There was a glitch that wouldn't let me open the bar on the second 'island'. I thought it was just that time through so I go through again. Again it won't open. That door is critical because one of the story missions starts in it. At least the second time I had the peace of mind to check the door before a couple hours of gameplay when it becomes critical.

I have a few. A couple of years ago I found myself with some extra cash and not having purchased any new games in awhile I decided to get some, I picked up FF VII, FF VIII, FF IX, and all three Xenosaga games. I heard and read generally rave reviews for all of these games, especially FF VII and Xenosaga.

Well, started to play FFVII, got about a couple of hours into it, but then it decided to crash over and over again every single time I left a town or went into most of the houses. Screw that, never touched it again, and never bothered to get a replacement copy.

Tried out FFVIII, story seemed interesting for a little while, although the battle system was horribly boring, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out the upgrade system which seemed to revolve around pointless orbs that you drained out of random enemies instead of actual choice or strategy. Screw that.

Not really a screw this game, but because of those two previous failures I never touched FF IX. I totally forgot I had Xenosaga and picked up FF XII a year or two later. Fairly interesting characters at first, decent gameplay, potentially good plot, interesting level up system, and then I get to the point where I have to play for over 2 hours just to hit a save point. Yep, screw this.

Last Christmas I remembered I had those Xenosaga games and decide to pick them up. The plot was so convoluted and yet completely boring that I just couldn't take it, in addition to the horrifying fact that for every 1 minute of gameplay the game forces you to endure 5-7 minutes of boring cut scenes reminiscent of really bad anime directed at preteen girls. Screw that.

I'm glad that with the exception of FF XII I picked up all those games for a grand total of about $30.

An almost screw it. Very end of God of War. Who in their right mind has a good action-adventure game and then throws in a arcade style fighting game last boss, in an badly maneuverable arena, with a choppy and unpredictable camera, and gives the boss a bunch of practically unblockable attacks? You had good but scarce boss fights in the game, and then decide to do that with the last boss? Why? Why? WHY? WHY?!!? End boss fights are supposed to be challenging yes, but epic, interesting, and fun. Not, "O, what should we do for an end boss to really summarize and immortalize the experience of this game? Let's just throw in an arcade style boss for good measure." What? If I wanted to play against an arcade style combat boss I would have picked up Mortal Kombat or something.

Ico, after about the 10th time that the girl runs off while I'm trying to open a door, and I can't fight the shadow things with my stick, and she dies. I decided to let evolution take its course and leave her to die, along with the $10 I wasted on that game.

Mine was also during Far Cry 2 - getting lost and then passing through the same checkpoint 5 or 6 times is very annoying.

Expert on L4D. I had already finished the other 3 maps and only had to play Blood Harvest. We finally managed to get to the finale (after dying about 20 times due to one bot) and after losing 2 teamates to the 2nd tank the reascue vehicle appears. I was at 10 health so I was limping. I was just about to enter the car and i could see the tank out of the corner of my eye. Like a second from entering the car the Bot decides to heal me. The tank runs down and downs me then Kills me. Needless to say we kill the bot right after we started it.

I had that moment in a recent playthrough of Final Fantasy II, which is one of the only JRPGs I've ever liked, about 3 hours into the game. I was in Kaushan Keep, getting the torch, and I got jumped by a group of land turtles. They tore my party apart, and I ended up with one character left, with 5 HP. I just stopped caring, but I picked it up again last night, and through luck of the draw with battles, the character becoming good enough to evade every attack coming from a weak creature, and saving between battles, I finally made it out. I had 1 HP by the end of it, and the only reason I made it to an Inn was because I got a chocobo, which makes it so that you can't be attacked. It was satisfying to finish, and I'm glad I went back to it, because I think it's a great game for some reason.
