to be fair, Hank Azaria DOES looks a HELL of a lot like Gargamel... but still, no. nonononononono a thousand smurfing times NO.
also, silly Katy Perry, acting and being a tone-deaf skank are two very different things

Please, Neil. Tell me you didn't sign on to this, Neil.
In his defense: he was probably given a check that contained many zeroes.
Van...there is not enough money in the world to do this.

Not. Enough.

I want to comment in this thread enough because it so horrible and awesome...I'm excited and dreaded.
Eh, some actors and actresses would rather perform in a bad movie than do nothing. Hell, Michael Caine missed his own Oscar to film Jaws 4.

Why bother making original characters when you can bring back characters everyone hates?

Thank you Hollywood for ruining BOTH one of my favourite cartoons from childhood, AND my ability to use "smurf you!" and other such censorship tactics in conversation.

Just...smu- no. FUCK you Hollywood! Fuck you straight to the depth of Hell reserved for pedophiles, rapists, lawyers and people who authorise horrible rip-off films!

This looks like another mediocre film. It doesn't exactly bother me though. I'm not particulary attached to The Smurfs and it's a childrens animated film so what do you expect?

Also I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this yet but I'd much rather see:

(I don't know how to get the video displayed in the post >_>)

I already heard enough about the smurfs due to Avatar, then I see the trailer for this in theaters (think I was watching Machete) and I wanted to kill a puppy.

According to every other post here, me thinking "It doesn't look all that bad" is just me handing in my resignation form to the Escapist.
But c'mon, put in all the subtle rude references you want, it's still a film for 7 year olds. They're not "ruining your childhood", they're adding something to some other kid's.

That's what I'm going with anyway.

Not all hope is yet lost, looks similar in style to Alvin and the Chipmunks.

However very unnecessary Hollywood.

Gargamel seemed a little too 'Yiddish' for comfort (granted we're not shown too much of him to make a full assesment though)

And what does Neil Patrick Harris think he's doing?

That was so horrible I think it gave me cancer!

Actually, it looks like a bad movie, sure, but not terrible. I don't see any reason to condemn it to loathing just yet although the thing certainly doesn't make me interested in seeing the movie.

That's just...extraordinary. It's genuinely like they set out to make it unwatchable.

Is it possible that all of Hollywood is being trolled? This seems like the kind of thing Neil Patrick Harris & Hank Azaria would dream up if they got wasted together.
That would be the greatest joke in motion picture history.

I never liked the smurfs that much anyway so I think it's kinda funny, it's good to be on this side of the argument, finally it isn't one of my treasured child memories that gets raped.

This movie was already destroyed for me when I found out that it was going to be a mix of real time and animation.
Not that I have anything against the mix of the two. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of my favorite movies. But it means that Laddi, the man who voiced ALL THE CHARACTERS in the Icelandic dubbing of the old cartoons isn't going to be able to dub everything is a great disappointment. And after I heard him do it, I knew there was no one else able to the smurfs for me.

Just like Mentok and his mind taking. Or as he said, "MIND TAKING BABY! ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!"

You hear that? Thats the sound of Neil patrick harris' career hitting a great big blue roadblock.
Really? When was NPH's career really ever that spectacular besides being a awesome dude and a cult favorite? Sure How I Met Your Mother is ok, but he has yet to even build a true film/TV career yet.

OT: That trailer is dopey, but It will kill in the box office no matter what.

Why do they continually take shows made for children and try to make them "edgier" and "hip"? Would it have really been so damn horrible for Hollywood to just leave the lil' blue bastards in the show's original setting and just let it be? Instead it's the same damn cookie-cutter formula as every other big-screen adaptation of an 80's icon... I swore for a moment there I was watching Dave Seville's pratfalls from that lame redux of "The Chipmunks". This is a horrible abuse of a beloved property from many people's childhoods... and I'm not just talking about NPH...

Why, Neil, why.... Did you need money that badly? We would have helped you... *sobs*
