Interesting to see but I'm curious as to how they're going to get around people getting an obscene amount of motion sickness. Camera moving quickly, zoomed in camera, and the terrain flipping the screen around is a recipe for disaster.

Edit: Yea after watching jeffer's gif for a solid 2-3 minutes I'm already getting queasy.
Nah, I think it's more of a dramatic camera angle effect for the gameplay trailer. To give you an idea of what the overall layout will look like. I'm just glad the trailer isn't just about pure speed and have lots of platforming sections.

This looks a lot like Sonic Xtreme, which has made me ridiculously happy. Stage 1 of the Sonic Cycle has begun :p

But seriously this looks really good, and especially if it is being based on some of the ideas from Xtreme, it should be a decent game.

I'm digging the art style.

Also, I'm getting a HUGE Mario Galaxy vibe with this one because of how the world is designed. The platforming looks like it has been edited to a faster pace play style to keep your momentum going, so that's good too.

I won't be getting it because it's on WiiU, but it looks super fun. Can't wait for the next multiplatform Sonic.

So this is basically Super Sonic Galaxy. This explains plenty. But of course everyone realizes, if Sega does in fact pull this off, then a Mario/Sonic crossover game is not too far behind, right? To be honest, it's one of the reasons why I hope this game really does work out, since then Sonic and Mario would finally have, in a sense, a level playing field to work on.

With Nintendo possibly helping out behind the scenes, part of me is hoping that Team Sonic are focusing on getting a locked-60fps framerate this time round, rather than overstuffing the visuals and allowing the framerate to drop a la Generations.
Oddly, when I was reading this, your gif started having framerate issues...

Anyways, this Sonic game looks like it will be incredible and a definite improvement over Generations, which was still good in its own right. With this and Wind Waker HD being added to the WiiU's far-too modest library this year, the WiiU may finally be worth getting. Then again, I'm still not entirely sure they will last long enough for the inevitable wave of Nintendo's first party titles, but hopefully we'll know more about those in the next few months.

I just... OH MY GOD! I AM CHANGING MY PANTS NOW!
SQUUUUEEEEE!!!!!!

According ot Sonic Retro, there was a three game deal with Nintendo. This is the first. Second is Mario and Sonic 2014. Third is unknown.

You know what... this just might be the game that gets me to invest in a WiiU (also, I may finally be able to play SOnic Colors). Sonic's looking pretty sexy these days.

Ugh, reminds me of the clunky 3d sonics. Why is it so hard to make a level that flows.(at least based on trailer)
When you think about it, though, a level that "flows" is also one that comes to an abrupt halt, either into a wall or off a cliff. Think of Sonic Rush and the Sonic Adventure games; their levels "flowed", but they weren't particularly fun to play through because you were just holding the control stick in one direction and using either twitch reflexes or memorization to jump the platforms or gaps.

Then look at Sonic 2. You've got levels like Hilltop Zone or Mystic Cave where you have to slow down and platform, and those levels were plenty of fun.
Hey! I liked Sonic Adventure... and yeah, neither game was very good (to this day I fail to see how everyone likes SA2 over the first game).

yeah, the Super Sonic Galaxy comparisons are pretty apt. It does look like Nintendo offered some help there.

So they are trying their best to combine the best of both worlds? My god...are they trying to be creative instead of filling out a check list?... Are... Are we getting creative games that don't require super graphics and over-blown development costs? Are are... are we finally seeing a change? Really?

Probably because they can't afford to do all that ugly over developed game stuff from all the failures and are stuck making something good.

The gameplay design there looks really good, it looks like it totally avoids the typical falling off the cliff since now you can control his speed better, Sonic games have always been either full stop or Mach 5 speed.

I would like to see slow motion mechanic in that case of going into an object, like just 1 second of slow motion when the character is right about to it a wall full frontal. Kind of like how the last Pacman game had a slow motion for when about to be hit by an enemy.
(example at 2:56)

Either way its cool to have more then 2 speeds even if they are just...

I had never seen that before, but it was beautiful.

OT: This actually looks pretty fun, though my major experience with Sonic has only really been Sonic Advanced, Heroes, and that god awful game Shadow got.

Oh, and also this:

I knew buying a WiiU was a good idea :D

Want me some Sanic.
Good thing I'm gonna be getting a Wii U. Now if Nintendo can work out a deal with some of the networks like the Gaming Station and Fullscreen then Nintendo has mended the wounds they've done to me. I'm especially happy since it is a platformer, the games I grew up with. Hopefully the combine the speed elements of modern Sonic with the platforming elements of old. I will say that I did enjoy how Sonic Colors did it.

Why isn't it on the escapist you wonder? Because it's not Nintendo, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon related or related to Xbone or PS4.

Anyway, as stated it looks like Sonic Extreme, just a real kick to the face it's not on other platforms...But I hope some modders may remedy this, because I'm not buying a WiiU for 1 damned game. So, get Retro on the next Metroid game since it seems Nintendo is too incompetent to handle a decent Metroid tile...looking at you Other M.

This looks really good, and I'm glad that our little animal friends are making a return to the series (and not as mindless robots I hope.)
It seems that since the advent of Sonic Colors- Sega has been going back on track with what Sonic games are all about.

Now the question is- Iwata said this game was coming to the 3DS right?

I thought Other M was developed by Team Ninja? :S

OT: Welp, with one single game, Nintendo have justified me buying a Wii U, I'm such a Sonic fanboy it isn't even funny. :(
(Although even I can't defend Sonic '06)

It was developed, but the story, events, etc were all created by Nintendo and (I think this was his name) Sakamoto, so Team Ninja doesn't hold the entirety of the blame, a lot goes to Nintendo as well.

I'm such a sonic fandboy at times as well. Grew up with the Genesis, so it's in the genes.
