External Intrusion?

More like anal intrusion!

Amirite? Eh? Eh?

*crickets chirp*

OT: While it could be interpreted that Sony is blaming Anonymous, Sony has never specifically stated that Anonymous is behind this. Only an external factor or whatever.

Anonymous isn't one big group. Just because AnonOps says they aren't doing anything, that doesn't mean another sector of Anon isn't doing something. Of course, it could be anyone from Anonymous to Ebaum's World, so I'll just wait and see what comes of it.

It's annoying to be sure, I was in the mood to go on Killzone 3.

Either way, if it does turn out to be someone at Anonymous, all it's going to do is tarnish their image and making people less inclined to support them and/or Geohotz.

Captcha: very ghenteso. Lovely.

I wouldn't put it past anonymous. That cyberterroristic cult is just stupid enough to do this.

Well, good to get an update anyways.
I actually really liked Anonomous until they turned their gaze onto Sony. They were doing what was right, we do have freedom of speech and no one can take that away! Still from what little I know about their dislike of Sony, it seems like a stupid thing to do.

Why is this going on for three pages? There is neither proof nor accusation of Anon being responsible, it's merely Sony coming out and saying their network couldn't handle artificial stress. But hey sure, seeing fanboys and haters rage and continuing their eternal slap fight is just riveting. Continue. Next pointless thread with the same bullshit tomorrow.

Sometimes I really wish this whole gamer "culture" would just pop like a bubble filled with asinine hot air.

There is a difference between:

"they are lying"

Look I don't like Sony any more than the average person but I will not tolerate baseless slander because it cheapens the argument.

Wouldn't it take excruciating power to shut down PSN?

And a week from now when we all find out it was actually a hardware failure/upgrade then what? ... Sony has lied in the past, and it will continue to do it in the future. And I'm going to continue to say they are lying. If you don't like it or if this confuses you, look in another direction.

Beautiful, delicious irony.
Great with a side of mashed!

I'll just be happy when PSN goes back up. I'd like to get back to my obsessive, absurd need to dominate my friends in trophy level/counts.

Also there is not logic to say 3-days means it IS an internal problem, especially ignoring how Sony has gone on the record at great liability to say they have detected intrusion.
Look I don't like Sony any more than the average person but I will not tolerate baseless slander because it cheapens the argument.
I believe there is a good case Sony fucked up by having inadequate security, but it is dishonest to ignore all indications of third party intrusion.
Ok I'll concede the point about opinion and admit that "logic" was the wrong word, though I still think internal problems is [i/]the most likely[/i] problem (note I didn't say is THE problem).

However, I have to ask what indications that there was a third-party? A Facebook post? That could be legit, but that is all that I've seen pointing to a third-party. The rest is just Sony going "look it isn't [i/]our[/i] fault."

I still think that Sony is having some internal issues, but if it [i/]is[/i] Anon or another hacker group... well it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. *sigh* Whatever, I don't really care except that you insulted that guy for posting what he thought, then I thought I'd add my reasoning about the issue so his side would have more than just insults.

eh *shrugs* you're the one undermining your credibility by resorting to unsubstansiated slander on an internet forum and being prejudgemental as opposed to waiting until all the facts come out before comming to a conclusion, not me

whatever floats yer boat

So I need to worry about credibility on here? Really? ... You seem to think, that I think my post is actually worth that much attention and effort. The only advice I can give you is stop taking yourself and everyone else so seriously. Let it go.

The Russian granny and shovel strike again. Admit it Sony ... it was the Red 'Ma and her shovel of catastrophe wasn't it?

(edit: Please let it be true that it was a person with a shovel ... or more so several people with shovels and/or other types of digging apparatus ... there needs to be more humour in the world ... that and it's kinda depressing people would piss off millions of people just to make a point)

I buy this story. Sony's MMOs and station.com were down for a period of time on Thursday too, I had friends talking about unexpected outages in Everquest 2 and Clone Wars Adventures. They came back up that day. To me, that reads like Sony shutting things down while they examined the scope of the problem, deciding the MMOs weren't affected, and bringing them back up.

If Sony Online Entertainment could flip a switch and come back up, presumably Sony Computer Entertainment can as well, and they have chosen not to because that exposes them to liability greater than whatever this outage is costing. Like a security breach that exposes customer data.

Plus the only hardware failure that takes this long to fix is an undersea cable, and I can't imagine an architecture where one cable would take down PSN, and only PSN, worldwide.

Admits is kind of strong term for this. I believe "claims" to be more acceptable.

I think theres an internal problem they can't fix. If it was an attack, it shouldn't take THIS long to fix. Most networks have backups.

[joke] Someone must have tripped over a power cord, cant find which one. :p

Y'know i wouldn't ignore the possibility that this is Sony royally fucking up and blaming their problems on a hacker group, but at the same time there were moments when Anonymous gave me the impression that they couldn't keep all their members in line. There are a few possibilities, all of them with very bad implications.

Why do people still think that Anonymous is an organization? The "members" vary from every operation, there's no management or leaders, there's just some random guy coming up with an idea, and a bunch of other random people joining in, at random intervals.
