SERIOUSLY! Stop mentioning Anon! Just because PSN went down DOES NOT mean it was Anon! Anon aren't the only hackers in the world, it could be anyone. This is really starting to piss me of now, I hate it when people put words into other's mouth.
it may have been someone else but anon is the best scapegoat around so why not blame it on those jerks
Theres also Geohot and the pirates. Not to mention PCElitists. You never know whatever they do when you give them too much freedom.

No way Anonymous is behind this.
They would take responsibility, 100%.

Sucks that they didn't separate gameplay services from all the other crap (movies, dlc)...
Maybe then we'd have at least some service back up.

Sounds like Sony looking for an excuse for a hardware failure. Server farms and pipelines go down, it happens. No company wants to admit that it happens to them and Sony has the convenient recent trouble with "external influences" to pin it on.

I mean all we can definitely say is that it's not an ion cannon DDOS which is Anon's weapon of choice. As a DDOS doesn't bring a network down like this, it goes in fits and starts and it only affect the server it's targeted at, not all of them.
Actually I'm sure you'd rather say it was a hardware failure than admit that a service where people can provide sensitive information (like card details) isn't actually all that secure as it has been hacked.

I doubt Sony would say this as an excuse as it'd be a pretty stupid excuse!

IB4 "how do you know it is anonymous"

news flash: we don't know who they are, THEREFORE THEY ARE ANONYMOUS!

(I don't think it's China or Iran, they have bigger fish to fry)
Haha, brilliant. I can't think of any argument against that.

PC elitists really could not give a crap about PSN.

To understand the mindset of PC elitists, you have to realise they really do think consoles are so completely beneath them. They might attack those who undermine PC gaming but PC Elitist just find console gamers to be a joke. Small time, worthless "kiddie consoles" and so on.

this makes me want to go play on my xbox for a bit. suck it PS3 owners.
No, suck it single system owners. Many people have more than one console and everyone has a computer, so your jab at PS3 owners does nothing but brand you as trolling fanboy who (now this is speculation) has to find a way to make yourself feel good about your decision to go with the 360. Then again, it's not just you but it seems that everyone that has one system feels the need to justify it by denigrating the others and their users.
why would i ever, EVER buy both consoles and a PC, what a waste of money.

also i dont consider myself a fanboy, xbox sucks worse, and i know that, its just nice to see the table turning on the PS3 owners, seeing how most of them take stabs at the xbox's unreliability.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the 'External Forces' were their marketing and lawyer division coming up with a scheme to destroy the Anon problem by blaming them for Sony itself taking itself down.

There. You may now hate mail me.

It's only a waste if you only use them for games, and if you do, what a waste of money.

And everyone takes stabs at everyone for everything. It doesn't make it all right to bring that attitude here.

Worth noting: This was NOT a DDoS like last time. This time, PSN going down was a response to a hack, which itself didn't take down PSN. Most likely, someone found a way to pirate PSN games directly from Sony or something similar, and they're taking it down until they can get this fixed.

P.S. Thanks

I don't know, it gets people on Sony's side, people see them as under attack by a faceless group of miscreants earns them a little breathing room. No-one is saying wow Sony your security is shoddy. They're saying, why anonymous so eeevil?

Whatever, Sony. You just keep flingin' bullshit, and we'll see how that goes for you.
Lets see how you will like when you tell your children not to do something, and they go ahead behind your back and do it.
Lol, I'm not having kids. I'd ruin evolution. XD
Maybe you already have some...

Because you are a true connoisseur of gaming and want a broad and full experience.

PC is GREAT, it is the single best platform to own for playing the broadest range of video-games.

But it is not comprehensive.

What about Halo, Bayonetta, Resistance, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Alan Wake, Shadow Complex, God Of War, Metal Gear Solid and Zelda.

I think Sony has only said they had "turned off" PSN after the attack. I can't find anything saying that the attack actually brought down the whole swathe of PSN servers. So, it might be that Sony is just playing it safe considering a lot of sensitive information is connected to PSN and the attackers could have injected some code that auto-redirects to a malicious download, thus screwing things up to a completely new level. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Sony is just taking its sweet time to do a thorough clean up.

Actually, you know what, i will laugh my butt off if it will prove to be Portal 2 fault and the whole cross platform steam integration messing up with Sony's server infrastructure. Maybe PSN couldn't stand the load?
Well your butt is safe since that wasn't the cause.

Sigh...bummer. I was hoping the news would be, "Yeah, some jerks brought it down, but we know how so will have it back up tomorrow." Guess not. I'm on the last chapter of Portal 2 and then I wanted to play co-op, but it doesn't look like that will happen yet. Guess I'll run through it again and try to get the trophies I missed. And play some more Killzone 3. Perhaps now would be a good time to try and get 100% on Alan Wake too. And download Arrival on my 360. Not suffering from a lack of stuff to do, it's just...I want to see what level my trophies are at blast it!

It may seem random but I wanna know why there are so many people defending geohotz (anonymous included). I mean, he went against the Licesne Agreement and was sued for it. He got what he deserved.

"2. RESTRICTIONS

You may not lease, rent, sublicense, publish, modify, adapt, or translate any portion of the System Software."

Unless I misunderstand that, he went against the software license agreement.

Sony could have bought new machines and rolled back the service by now, if it was internal. Whatever is happening isn't, completely, their fault.

Because the End-User License Agreement isn't legally binding. There are a lot of people and organizations who purchased the PS3 for the OS running capabilities, not to play games and Sony took the service away, despite being a major selling point.

Why are people taking Sony at their word and quick to blame Anonymous? Anonymous is always more than eager to gloat and flaunt their work so why would they deny it now? Anon declared a war on Sony so it makes them an easy target for the blame. It could very easily be an internal problem and they are blaming Anon because of their earlier comments and Sony gets to save face.
