Nice secure system there Sony. Way to fuck up. At least RRoD only killed your system and didn't give out all your information at the same time.

Oh and I am still supporting the people who did this. How do you leave such a glaring issue in the system without fixing it? Thats asking for trouble. At least now Sony has to get their system together. If it didn't happen now, it was going to somewhere down the line and Sony still would have done nothing about it until then. Great company.
what kind of stupid argument is that... that's like saying you support the 9/11 attacks because it highlighted apparantly not up to scratch airport security.
Two different things first of all, but it did awake the country to the problem. Now Sony is awake to its problem, it failed to protect its information on a massive scale. You don't fuck up more then that.

Am I the only one who is reminded by this hacker/sony debate of the South Park episode where people are drowning in a flood while everyone who could help them is finding a way to blame it on global warming/Al Queida/Crab people? Granted, I'm not sure what anyone could do to help at this point, but still, something's wrong when we start to resemble the adults in South Park.

Besides, why would only the hackers or Sony be at fault? Can't they both be assholes?

shouldn't people with credit card info on any network take extra steps to guard that information once they hear the network was compromised? I don't even have a PS3 but after hearing it could have been hacked I'd have called my credit card company right away.
sort of like how I changed my facebook password after my friend guessed it in a conversation.

PSN info would be stored on servers. You do not use a PS3 to get to those servers, this can be done via a computer. The codes release was poorly timed, however, the root key does not grant access to said server.

Please, I know its hard to understand, but i'm a bloody hacker myself (white hat, not black hat, and its awesome pointing out the flaws in there system to them, giving us all admin accounts, ugh, idiots). At the very least take my word for it that Geohot is not responsible, you're just making yourself look silly.
I am angry, very much so, at the moment so I am not exactly making sure everything I post here is 100% correct. Of course I assume the CC info is stored on servers somewhere, but you have to remember that the PSN hacking began only after the PS3 hacking had reached the point where Hotz released the root keys. One followed the other. Forgot the nick, but wasn't it Count Chocula or something who used Hotz's info to crack the PSN and post the first logs of PSN transactions?

I have no proof Hotz is directly involved in this new attack (and he'd be crazy to get involved following his settlement), but given that apparently no-one was able to crack the PSN at all before Hotz got involved I do still blame him as even if he is not directly responsible, I think that without him this new attack wouldn't have happened. Exactly how they intruded on the PSN is immaterial at the moment, that they did and that they did so only after first finding out some info on how the PSN works using cracked PS3s should be clear to everyone.

As for the term hacker, I wish that the term weren't soiled by the mass populace misapplying the term to crackers like Hotz as well, but the reality is that nobody outside of the scene itself cares about the distinction. Regardless of intent, anyone hacking into systems they are not authorized to is called a hacker by almost everyone so I follow this usage. Use the terms white hat/black hat to make a difference if you must. I know what camp I fell in when I was still doing it, and I know what camp I'd place Hotz, Chocula, and whoever is behind this attack.

Good thing I had little to no info of myself on PSN, and last purchase I made was ACB DLC and I deleted the info for the card I used right after, so no problems here. However if credit card information was stolen then it would probably be a really bad idea for the hackers to do anything with card information since purchases made with credit cards can be easily traced and they culprits will be easier to identify (they haven't identified them but if they use stolen card info then they can say goodbye to their anonymity).

Holy shit on a fucking stick! My jaw dropped when I saw this headline. Fuck it with all my petty xbox fanboy acts, this just shouldn't happen. I'd better call my friend right now and see if he knows.

Wow... Just Wow...

I'm quite stunned by the gravity of the problem Sony seems to face right now. I mean ... ALL of PSN data ?
I'm just kinda glad that there i only put non-sensical information there ('cause i just wanted the free DLC for Disgaea 2 DHD) and that i didn't had a credit card back then.
That must kinda suck for all those that entered their credit card information tho'

Shit. I really hope the credit card that's on my PSN is now outdated. I replaced it not long ago, but i may have put the new info on my PSN. I don't think i have, and if that's the case, i should be ok. The only two things i bought from PSN were FF7 and FF8 a long time ago.

I can't believe Sony let this happen. It's absolutely disgusting. I guess this is what happens when you try to run a free online service. I wonder if the same thing would happen to Microsoft customers if XBL got attacked in the same way. Needless to say i'm done buying anything at all on PSN and any PS1 games can be played on my PS2 from now on. I'll also steer clear of any new hardware from Sony in the future until they can damn well guarantee this sort of thing can't happen ever again.

meh. I never put any card info in my playstation. And the email i used for it is a spare one that i really couldn't care less about. Although it doesn't look like PSN is coming back up again any time soon. Again, not much of a problem. All I'm playing atm is portal 2, single player, so I think i got off rather lucky ^ ^

You're seriously serious with this statement? What is remarkable is how much credit you give a rag-tag group of basement dwellers with enough free time to be angry about these things.
Bitches don't know about my personal army.

Imma take a minute to explain something. Anonymous conceptually exists on several levels. It is comprised of quite literally tens of thousands of people across dozens of websites. Therefore, any statement you care to make about them, is by the very nature of anon, true. Are they a "rag-tag group of basement dwellers"? Sure. But that is a gross oversimplification. Anon is a hive mind, again, quite literally. But beyond that there are some highly influential highly successful people who call themselves anon. I know of at least one congressman. I know of actors, directors, engineers, doctors, professors, lawyers and every other kind of professional you'd care to name. And the hackers. Anon thrives when people underestimate it. Just ask Aaron Barr.

Next console generation: Kill switches.

Seriously shit like this could have been pulled off using that custom devnet firmware that was posted about earlier.

Whoever did this better hope i dont get to them first.

And to save you the trouble, I am mad.

Well this is just ridiculous, why on earth have they waited this long to tell people that vital information has been stolen?
It's simply unacceptable, my trust in Sony has taken a good shaking, and I certainly won't be trusting PSN ever again.
Of course the true evil here is whoever hacked PSN in the first place, bunch of slimey little basterds.
