I wonder where they got this chat log; it looks legitimate in that it reads like an actual chat log, and the technical talk, which is admittedly over my head for large sections, doesn't seem to be blatantly made up. Also, despite what the author of the blog post said, I definitely got a white hat hacker vibe off of the chat log; if it's real, and the people in the chat are the people who pulled off the hack, they'll probably take better care of the info than Sony did.Spherex said:Possible hacker chat-logs. If what it says in that link is true, CC-info was transmitted and stored in plain text (although over SSL). To say that differently, it was never even encrypted!
Sony. Fucked. Up.
I never once said it was not entirely Sony's fault, you are right the system should have been much more secure than it was. It is just naive to think that a company/bank or whatever could create a completely hack-proof system, especially considering the hacking tools out there and the creativity of the people behind them. To use an analogy, what your saying is like: the police being blamed for someone's murder, because they were killed where there were no security cameras. The area should have been better protected, but no one has the resources to cover every square inch of ground to ensure something like this never happens. Yet everyone still blames the law enforcement rather than the actual murderer for the death. What you are saying is that hackers have no part in this, you are being hypocritical by blaming other who are defending Sony by pinning the blame entirely on Sony and none on the hackers who cracked the system in the first place.stinkychops said:Snip
If it's only a small possibility that info was stolen, it's not worth it to say that it might have been, because that will only cause chaos and/or uproar. Besides, as I said to the previous guy: it has existed for 5 years and it has taken that long for any serious hacking to happen.Torque669 said:I completely know its the hackers fault but its Sonys gaming online service, you believe it would be secure.headshotcatcher said:Frank_Sinatra_ said:snipJourneyThroughHell said:snipTorque669 said:snipYes, it was Sony who put PSN down and stole all your credit card information. They basically gave the info away, right?EcksTeaSea said:snip
No they didn't, it got HACKED, I.E gotten through illegitimate means.. Sony can't do anything about it, and that's why PSN is down and they're designing a new network now.
Is it 'Sony stole your credit card information'? No. It's 'Hackers stole your credit card information'.
Besides, if you do believe it's Sony's fault, you're the one who gave them the credit card information in the first place.. (yes I know that's a fallacy but think about it )
Also I was complaining that they had taken a week to tell people that there information may have been stolen, why did they take this F'ing long? They should have apoligised, explained and admitted their faults and their plans from the start, not hide them like a small boy whos trying to lie to his parents.
I was saying (or trying to say) that it's as much Sony's fault as it is your fault. You're both victims here, remember..Frank_Sinatra_ said:You know, I was going to use this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FopyRHHlt3M] on you, but I can discern a single coherent statement out of your comment there.
I'm not blaming Sony for this, I'm blaming the hackers. Furthermore why the hell would you say this is our faults?
Now listen to me carefully... We gave our information to purchase things on PSN IN GOOD FAITH THAT THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN!
This is NOT our faults, this is Sony's fault for not having a secure enough system.
Even if you "think about it " this is still not our faults. Sony should have had a secure enough system for this to not happen. Sure you can't have a completely foolproof system but you can sure as hell have a better one than what Sony had.
I'm sorry if I'm coming off as furious, but comments like this piss me right off.
If you shop at Amazon.com and you use your card to buy something and then Amazon is hacked it is not your fucking fault.
.... goosefrabaaaa.....
Okay, I'm calm now.
Im not actually, I use the Playstation, hence why Im annoyed that this happened. And yes, I understand that they're doing all they can to stop this and are even improving the network as whole to make it much better but why didnt they just come out with all this at the start, apoligise and get on with fixing it, why they would wait this long doesnt make sense to me.comadorcrack said:Woa calm down. Its hardly Sony's fault they got hacked. They did the right thing shutting down shop so quickly. Frankly as long as they can get this sorted then I'm fine loosing PSN for a while.Torque669 said:Wow ... This is just horrendous. They waited a week to tell anyone this, the flippin' idiots ... I dont know how PS3 "fanboys" can even attempt to rectify this. I heard arguments saying that it was "Free" and as such "Shouldnt complain its down" but just because its free doesnt mean people should lose credit card information.
I cant even come up with any idea how Sony are going to make this up to their customers.
Yeah maybe sony should have told us sooner about this cos it is pretty big news, but either way its not like Sony was asleep at the wheel. They're doing everything they can to sort it out.
Also. Don't be bringing in your Anti Sony stuff just cos your a fan boy of -Console X-.
And finally, someone who realises that its not just the hackers fault and not just Sonys. The hackers are bastards for doing all this, but they wouldnt have been able too if they didnt have an oppurtunity and "we" didnt know about the detail theft till now because they hadnt told us. Surely they must have known from the start.Nexus4 said:I am a PS3 fan, but don't forget that we didn't know about the detail theft until now. Trust me, no one is going to try and rectify this, Sony fucked up big time though I am also heavily pissed off at the Hackers for doing it in the first place.Torque669 said:Wow ...
