No offense, but I don't really care.
If one company is coming out with better stuff because they can afford it, then who gives a crap?

I hate Sony for things like this. They need to just stop sometimes because they are seeming desperate, and Sony is not desperate.
Darn the console wars it's annoying.

As a gamer who switched disks in Mass Effect 2 without even slightly caring, quite a few, I guess. The only people who'll care about that are the publishers, methinks.
What if Mass Effect 3 cost $10-20 more because it needed multiple disks? Publishers aren't going to just take the hit. Either way the cost will go to the consumer in the form of a cut down game, or higher price.
To produce one 50GB capacity blu-ray disc, manufacturers charge less than $2.50 - and they're significantly more expensive than the discs the 360 reads. Unless Mass Effect 3 comes on forty bazillion discs, markups of $10-20 due to manufacturing are essentially impossible. Publishers would be far more likely to hike the price to offset the cost of paying the developer to produce forty bazillion discs worth of content.

Also, Lost Odyssey came on four discs with no change in price. Don't be talking nonsense, now.
Just to throw my chips in here, am I the only one that actually likes multiple disks? That lovely warm thinking when you open the box and think "Good God! Four disks! This game is going to last forever!"

Anyone here read 1984?

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. They can never conquer one another

Okay, Sony have made a habit of just saying damn crazy stuff when it comes to the PS3, but I'm going to have to side with them for this one.

When you pay for in-house titles, you generate something that wouldn't of otherwise existed.
Paying for exclusives just means we will pay you NOT to produce something for one third of the market. (I know its not exactly that simple as then studios can focus on making the game better for the one platform, but still).

If you took it to the extreme, imagine if Microsoft payed every game publisher under the sun to only release XBox360 games and they won the console war like that.

Boo hoo. "We don't want to buy any games", is essentially what they just said.

You can't really blame Microsoft for lapping up all these exclusives. They're good for sales. And you know, they're a company. Companies like to sell things.

I own both systems. Your biggest cock contest holds no bearing over me Sony and Microsoft.
I think it's less of a biggest cock contest in this scenario. To me, it looks like Microsoft is waving their about whilst Sony insults it's size.

Who told Sony PR about my avatar?
That sounds awesome. I'd pay to see that.

OT: looks like someone had there bitchflakes this morning. Looks like they used the hypocrisy milk as well...

Honestly, if your going to ***** about Microsoft, try and find a better thing then, "they have more exclusives then us". Thats just basicly giving free advertising for Microsoft. Espically coming from a company which ruled the last console war through using as many exculsives as possible I.E: Some GTA games, FF, Gran trusmio, Rachet and clank, Etc.

Sony: Pfft, we won't buy exclusives or make in-house games.

Microsoft: K, we will. Enjoy having less games.

Sony: Look everyone, Microsoft is buying exclusives! Yaaa, booo, hiss etc.

Anyone else find that Nintendo versus SEGA was a lot more sensible and less immature than Sony versus Microsoft?
No. But it was more entertaining. Who remembers the Sega "plumber box" commercials where they dropped an N64 off a building? Classic

I have a 360 and not a PS3 because a greater proportion of games I'm interested in playing are either on the 360 only or on both. It was a fairly mercenary decision on my part.
Which is the only sensible decision in my book. I'm going to get a PS3 for the exact same reason... Exclusives.

It's marketing. I don't think it has to make sense, it just has to sound good. And "I can do greatness myself while you have to get it from others" sounds good.

Edit: Even though it is bullshit alright...

Microsoft buying exclusivity has also killed games in terms of sales. Remember Shenmue? Jet Set Radio Future? Yeah they were on the Dreamcast as well but at least a niche game could stay afloat on the PS2. God Hand anyone? Katamari Damacy?

Nintendo still printing more money then both combined so... XD

plus Sony should Pay for more exclusives god dammit! their fanbase is getting turned over when every time a big name game is coming out MS always gets it first >.< get with the times man! show some love to your gamers and spend the extra cash to get some damn exclusives you NINNY! I don't care if you have more first-party Studios, if they don't come out with a game every year its an irrelevant argument!

and good luck trying to take the US market from MS. Looks to be quite a feat to achieve and all the power to you SONY if you can.

Also AVATAR finally made the Blu-ray player in my PS3 worth it! Its gonna be my first Blu-ray purchase forrealz! XD

Sony's PR strategy in the console war seems to be to point out that Microsoft is a devilish, top hat-wearing fat cat lording over the population with its giant dollar-sign labeled sacks of cash.
The hypocrisy amazes me.

Sometimes i get kinda shamed when i read stuff like this, its childish its the type of shit you see on forum flame wars being argued by fucking 12 year olds, grow the fuck up no one really cares whos got what exclusive or whos got the more content as by this time everyone already bloody has both consoles.

Well, to be honest, I think MS writing checks only ends up hurting...MS fan's. Look at the facts, every single game MS has bought timed exclusivity for (other than their first party studios of course), have come back to the PS3...only...with more content and a much more refined version of the engine. So...it really ends up screwing the 360 crowd over, essentially. Or, as is the case with many adopters in Japan, they end up buying a 360 because they think said game will never hit the PS3, and they find out differently 6 months or a year down the road.
This. When a good game comes out for PS3 you know it's gonna stay there.

Sony's should focus on the positives of their business model. Their in-house projects often take serious popularity risks in order to deliver something amazing for their platform even if there's not much expectation that it's going to have mass market appeal... ICO, MAG, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain.

They're saying that Microsoft's way of doing business is to pick someone else's project that's going to be a huge success, and pay the developer not to do a multiplatform release ... it's not much to drop a couple million bucks to match the expected profit from sales on PS3 if a game's going to be so good that people might upgrade a PC or buy a 360 to play it. So instead of 10 million sales something like Mass Effect 2 only sees 8 million with MS covering the $ difference. That's a lot of people who don't get a chance to play ME2.
They do the same to get market share for their search engine, instead of paying to develop worthwhile features or content they pay existing sites not to list on Google.

Have you ever heard of the baseball card craze that hit around 1989? people thought those cards were gonna be a whole lot of money, now places sell those exact same cards for 1.00$ for boxes of 60 cards
