The 3DS is going to be the most awesome portable system EVER! It has such great graphics (so did the PSP), they ported actual CONSOLE games to it :O (isn't that one of the things you use to hate about the PSP?) and the 3D sounds just awesome! ('Any console that uses 3D is stupid because we don't need such a cheap gimmick. That is why the PS3 sucks and the Wii rules' weren't those you're exact words?)
It might be 250$ bucks, but it's very powerful so that makes it worth it! (Didn't you also say that superior hardware is not as important as a small price tag?)

That is basically a discussion I had with a co-worker a few weeks ago.
Now that the new PSP got announced his first comment was "Huh! No 3D? SONY SUCKS! =))". Does anyone else sense something wrong here? The sad part is that a LOT of people on a LOT of forums agree with him.
And people ask me why I think Nintendo Fanboys are hypocrites.
That is just sad, but hey at least we're gonna have a good laugh once the 3DS is hacked and see what nintedo's execs faces when that happens.

Touch pads on the back of the device?
Wouldn't that be a bit awkward to use?
Depends on how they're implemented, I suppose. I, for one, am intrigued. But not necessarily in.

Well, the first PSP being hacked is the main reason I got in the first place. I did BUY the PSP games, but I wasn't going to re-buy my PS1 library so I converted them into Eboot files. I also enjoy playing SNES, NES, Genesis, PC and GBA games on it. I'm against piracy (I still have no intention of buying a Jailbreak for my PS3) but if I get more variety in the software I can run on my machine then I'm not complaining.
Besides, I don't hate the 3DS and until I heard it was going to be 250$ I was planing to buy one, but buying a 250$ machine for just 2 games is not worth it for me, maybe when they make more games for it I'll buy one.

Like most people I'll wait until the price is drop to a more reasonable one and then buy it.
And I'm one of those people who think that 3D is a stupid gimmick like the Kinect, so 3D doesn't sell to me. And the only Nintendo game I love is Golden Sun series.

Oh well, to Sony's credit, at least they were smart enough to drop the awkward UMDs, although that isn't going to help them much at this point...If anything, the lack of backwards compatibility with the PSP library is just going to hurt them even more.
Remember, by and large, Sony is a tech company, they are not exclusively a game company, of course they're going to push for technological innovations, whether one considers them "smart" or otherwise.
I realise that. But technology by itself doesn't make for a good product. Innovation only has worth when it is aligned with utility, price and cost. And that is the problem with Sony; they pursue sustaining innovations at the cost of everything else....apparently, including their own financial wellbeing.

From the sound of the specs, and the release schedule, I think that Sony has put a bit much in this project and are probably going to handle this smarter than the PSPGo.
They are definitely pursuing this more smartly than the PSP Go....unfortunately, the fact that they are repeating the same mistake they made with the PS3 shows that they are not pursuing it smartly enough.

And backwards compatibility has neither been confirmed nor denied, unless you can provide links or something (The USB stick thing could be used for transfers and whatnot).
They already confirmed that the PSP2 will not have a UMD drive. If it cannot run the media used by the previous handheld, it means it is not backwards compatible.

I still don't use the 3D features on my PS3 so 3D is not that big a deal to me either. The reason I didn't get a DS is that I don't like any game on it. And as for the Wii, motion controls are ok when it comes to rail shooters but I wouldn't buy a system just for those, though they would be on my list. And here is why I don't have a Wii yet:

1. I want No More Heroes - but it's coming to the PS3 (which I already own);
2. I want Dead Space Extraction - there is a move-compatible (even though I don't have a move yet) HD version on the Dead Space 2 disk I ordered yesterday;
3. I want Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles;
4. I want Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom - however, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is coming next month on the PS3 and it features more characters (including Dante) and a Simple Mode which really tempts me;;
5. I want Silent Hill Shattered Memories - or I did until I got the PSP version and finished it 5 times.

So should I buy a Wii just to play the Umbrella Chronicles? No!

As I mentioned time and time again, I don't hate Nintendo or their systems, I just don't see the point in buying a machine that you won't use just because it has gimmicky motion controls and/or 3D support.

Well DNF will FINALLY be released in May I hope. Can the Wii support that? NO

Anyway back to nintendo, even though they the pioneers in most of the games today, they are also the laughing stuff when they released that god-awful Virtualboy back in the day and they are the biggest pricks when it comes to new innovations that is not invented by them. Want an example? They said that achievement/trophies are just imaginary prizes and will not implement those features on their future console.

As for 3D I don't see the point in it. I doesn't matter to me if I see a more enhanced version of a movie/game that I already seen in 2D.

Also I just can't take Nintendo seriously as a company that supports hardcore games.
To me they are always a company that makes casual or kiddy games.

They boasted Other M, and see what everyone's reaction to it, specially on the bad move on making Samus a submissive and stupid girl.

What do you expect when a game whose protagonist is a female and be developed by Team Ninja,
whose view on women are sex fantasies.

It apparently plays digitally downloaded PSP games you've bought from PSN.

TWO STICKS!!! AT LONG LAST, IT HAS TWO STICKS!!! If Sony can make long-distance wirless multiplayer possible, this'll sell faster than "Instant perfect wife/husband".

I don't even have a PS3 because they're too expensive. If PS3s are too expensive, you bet your ass this'll be too expensive. Same with the 3DS, as much as I want to buy that on release, but Jesus...the price...

Anyway as I said in the other thread, I'm not feeling it. There's nothing there that makes me desperately want one. So I'll probably do to this what I did to the PSP; buy it for £30 from a friend 6 years from now.

Expect a £300/$400 price tag on release. If they sell it for less than that, then Sony are throwing all the chips down.

I might be a buzzkill, but I really don't see this succeeding. I'm sure it's an amazing piece of machinery, but so was the first PSP.

I have this eerie feeling that this well be yet another portable money pit for Sony.
Sony have already shown that they don't actually care if they sink millions into something and it doesn't succeed. Look at the PSP Go! That thing sold like crap, and they were like "yeah, it was just a test to see if the market liked it".

This will KICK ASS!

Hopefully I can port games I already own to it.
Didn't Sony have those UMD transfer stations they said they were setting up? Did those happen? I imagine they'll set something up for this.

What's all that weird blue text in your post?

I am quite shocked by this news!

I fear that I will need to buy one, eventually, for the inevitable massive JRPG library.
Hehe, y'all so crazy...
