If it's one thing americans like more than bombing poor people, it's suing for a quick buck. I for one want no part of it.
This is a world wide event, I'm sure this is just the beginning. If anything you should applaud these guys for being so on the ball.
With all due respect, sir, but suing before the scope of the problem is identified, nor knowing what measures Sony has taken, how they will offer restitution to their customers, how the problem became such a clusterfuck in the first place, nor how they intend to rectify said problem, is not "being on the ball", it is being petty.

Don't get me wrong, I'm irritated at Sony, but I've been a loyal Playstation gamer since the off, and at this rate, I can see them declaring bankruptcy in the forseeable future.
I'm sure Sony as a whole won't go bankrupt, but they may choose to mop up Sony Computer Entertainment. Even if the legal fees won't kill it, the lack of trust by consumers might. Then again, that might just be the frightend gamer in me speaking.

Has anyone's credit card info actually been stolen? I haven't seen a single example as of yet that someone suffered from Identity theft, and to actually win a case like this you do need legitimate examples.
I've seen several, all of which seem like active trolls making trouble on forums. There are times when being an asshole goes beyond rude and into unacceptable.

I sure hope once Sony dies from this that I can finally play Ratchet & Clank on my Xbox 360... seriously, Ratchet & Clank + Uncharted are the only reasons why I even play my PS3!
If Ratchet and Clank was on the 360, I would have a 360. But it unfortunately isn't so I don't.

OT: How is this helping anything? Also, will I get to see a penny of this money Sony is going to have to pay out? Fuck no.

Oh gosh, my heart just skipped a beat and I felt kinda heart broken that SCE may not survive this.
I mean, we all could guess that this wouldn't be easy to survive at all but actually seeing it written down makes me really sad.

Meh, please don't include me in this lawsuit. All I want is the PSN back online so I can play Portal 2 co-op.

That's what I've been thinking. Shouldn't we be focusing on finding the alleged hackers (if that is the case) than attacking Sony?
Plus how is attacking Sony going to get PSN back any sooner?
Finding the hackers won't do any good at this point. The data that was stolen off PSN is probably on a hundred thousand computers all over the world by now.

And attacking Sony isn't about getting PSN back. It's about getting compensation, and, to an extent, retribution.

Assuming this breach happened due to Sony's negligence, all the PSN subscribers that were affected by this catastrophe can do now is try to *****-slap Sony hard enough that they'll pay more attention to their security practices next time.

If it wasn't due to Sony's negligence, Sony will probably fight the case and win, and won't be any worse off for it.

The sad part is that this is the main point right? I men, the PS3 was unhackable until some dude showed up and hacked it, then someone else, then someone else. There are people out there that simply CAN.
It does seem like very convenient timing, however I don't think it's been implied anywhere that the breach was through a playstation.

Though if it were breached by a playstation system, even though my info was compromised as well, I'd be laughing my ass off. Come on, think about it, I see the headline now: Sony hacked up the EULA by Playstation: Phrase "DO NOT HACK INTO PSN" now in all caps and bold print in new EULA.

This.

It sucks for the consumer but its not like Sony did it on purpose, they were already hit hard and I find that this lawsuit will only get in the way of solving the problem.

Costumers can ***** about the fact that their info is out there but they dont need to ***** about the "effort" of changing passwords, Sony is probably working their asses off right now so dont ***** about effort.

law firms love these kind of situations so they can use them to make giant law suits against big companies and rake in some dough. Walmart also has a class action law suit against them too.

Well, it was bound to happen. Even if it was an external attack, you don't drop the ball on handling the private information of 75 billion people and get to walk away unfazed.

Which would've been a valid argument had SONY been forthright with the scope of the damages from hackers. However, they waited around and released the information days later that the scope of damages will include all personal information submitted to PSN and probably your credit card info. Therefore I see no reason to wait to hear SONYs plan to rectify the situation. If they had a plan they should've released it with their previous press release.

As of right now it is the PSN customer base that is frantically taking action to prevent damage to their credit. Why should they not be compensated for something SONY should be helping with.

Those hackers better hope that if anyone catches them, it is the police. I understand the blunder of Sony's part, but they didn't give that info out, it was taken. And they are offering a free online service. Come on Sony, pull through! I don't want to see you go under. :(

So...

Geohot jailbreaks the PS3.

Sony uses this as an excuse to steal public information on anyone even looking at Geohot's findings.

PSN goes down. Sony blames "external source".

We find out a week later that all our information has been stolen from Sony.
Unrelated information, but still.
It feels kind of...Ironic.
Tragically so, seeing as this screws over the only innocent in this whole mess.
The Customer.
