i doubt they'll die from this and if they do well i guess this world is more fucked up then i thoughtDuskflamer said:Forgive me for being a bit rude, but what has SONY done lately that couldn't be picked up by, say, Microsoft's gaming division if SCE goes under? They have an online network that pales compared to XBL, a motion controller that, face it, is a direct rip off of the Wii, and are falling flat on their faces in the handheld competition against Nintendo. I don't see the future of gaming being any worse off if Sony and all it's terrible PR and bad practices get pushed out of the market over this, it might even make an opening for a better company to come in and take its place.
But I don't think that people realize the repercussions of what can happen from this. Sony itself may not go under but they might just pull the plug on Sony Computer Entertainment.DanDeFool said:Finding the hackers won't do any good at this point. The data that was stolen off PSN is probably on a hundred thousand computers all over the world by now.
And attacking Sony isn't about getting PSN back. It's about getting compensation, and, to an extent, retribution.
Assuming this breach happened due to Sony's negligence, all the PSN subscribers that were affected by this catastrophe can do now is try to *****-slap Sony hard enough that they'll pay more attention to their security practices next time.
If it wasn't due to Sony's negligence, Sony will probably fight the case and win, and won't be any worse off for it.
Hopefully the gaming world will wake up and realize the repercussions that killing SCE could have.RedEyesBlackGamer said:Those hackers better hope that if anyone catches them, it is the police. I'll put money down that if SCE is killed by this that The Last Guardian won't see the light of day.Casual Shinji said:I'm sure Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch and Team Ico aren't feeling too creative at this moment either.
It'll be a sad day in gaming if SCE dies from being quartered and incinerated like this.
i doubt this'll slow down getting psn back up since i don't think the same part of the company has to deal with thiscocoro67 said:Oh Christ they better be caught by someone other than the police.RedEyesBlackGamer said:Those hackers better hope that if anyone catches them, it is the police. But seriously, this does not help us in any, way, shape or form, in fact it'll probably make getting PSN back up (Goal for us) slower than some idiot getting a quick buck (Goal for idiot who SUUEEEEED.
But didn't they announce a plan to improve security, something rebuilding the entire network? That seems quite satisfactory to me in that regard. Also, is it not so that customers whose credit cards are used for illicit purposes shall receive recompense?dkyros said:Which would've been a valid argument had SONY been forthright with the scope of the damages from hackers. However, they waited around and released the information days later that the scope of damages will include all personal information submitted to PSN and probably your credit card info. Therefore I see no reason to wait to hear SONYs plan to rectify the situation. If they had a plan they should've released it with their previous press release.
As of right now it is the PSN customer base that is frantically taking action to prevent damage to their credit. Why should they not be compensated for something SONY should be helping with.
Ive still not had anything either, my boyfriend had an email earlier today but still nothing for me or my friends. Starting to wonder whether their just sending out emails to a random few and hoping for the bestThe breach occurred around the time the PSN and such were shut down, not recently. Sony only bothered to recently admit info was breached, then said they have already contacted PSN users to let them know about it.
And just saying, but I STILL haven't gotten any emails or the like detailing anything they promised what they'd send out.
Lots of talk and not so much action.NicoDK said:Yes, please. Go ahead and kill the company, we need more salt in the wound.
Accualy, forget the salt and bring the fucking acid.
It's like the ENTIRE FREAKING WORLD forgot what the word HACKED means.
I would seriously considder hacking the dickfaces doing this and then sue them over not being 100% hack proof, if you know, I didn't have anyting else to do.
Nobody wants your flamebait here. a) nothing stops ambulance chasers. If anything I'm amazed it took this long to get started. I knew it would happen if credit card information was stolen and used, but stress of changing passwords? Costs of issuing new cards? Seems petty even for lawyers.Dusk17 said:Is there any point to the lawsuit? Has anyone actually had their identity stolen yet? How about this, instead of worrying about Sony, they find the one that hacked them?
Of course they said it was safe, and it probably was! Anything running on electricity could be hacked, its not like these hackers just waltzed in and stole the information (which may or may not have been compromised depending on if you read the media or Sony itself). Sure, it's a huge fuck up, I'm not denying that, but lieing? Really? Does telling the truth before and then that truth being broken retroactively turn that truth into a lie?Shycte said:Anway, they are not being sued for not being 100 % hackproof, they are being sued because they said that they could keep it safe and they lied. There are laws against screwing up this badly. You can't just say "Whops we got hacked and 77 millions people got their identity stolen, no biggie". Laws!
a free game would be nice but i don't really care i just want it back so i can activate portal 2 on steamShirokurou said:Oh come on, that's just wrong...
I mean, they can't promise impossible to crack software and seriously "compensation for the "extra time, effort, and costs"" what's next, "compensation for not being able to play on PSN"?
Seriously, I hope Sony's lawyers kick this one back and avoid paying that stuff back.
Then again, maybe I'm just saying that cause I didn't have credit card info on PSN that could've leaked. But still I say in-PSN bonuses and compensation would've been enough IMHO.
