I've got an idea. How about all the companies stop making shitty motion controls and make some decent new IPs to stop the sequel parade for a bit.

Wow... he doesn't sound one BIT like a pretentious asshole in this video. Nope. Not even a little.

But seriously, calling a product that's not even released yet "a huge success" is really pushing the envelop when it comes to asshattery. And the majority of the video was just hating on the Wii. He seems to have forgotten that the Wiimote is basically what Sony is BASING the Move on.

This guys needs his smug little ass kicked. I don't care if Move turns out to be good or not, because that is yet to be seen; he badly needs a beating just for that commercial.

Umm... no shit?

I think it's obvious that kinect has vast flaws seeing as it has no controllers so equalling limited types of games. Sony took the logical decision.

I think Microsoft will end up bringing out a similar controller when they realise the stupidity of relying on an eye-toy.
I would think that stupidity would be to write the technology off as 'an Eyetoy' because it clearly is much more than that. I guess it is an 'Eyetoy' like a vintage car is a modern one. Both Move and Kinect are capable of awful useage. They both are clearly going for different goals. That Kinect will be illsuited for some of the things Move would excell at, is obvious, but the same is definate the other way.

I personally would not buy either, but wouldn't dismiss Kinect as you did, just as I wouldn't dismiss Sony's tech as a 'Wii clone'. Besides, it uses the Eyetoy for facial recognition and pixel based tracking as well.
Yeah true, I think I was being overly biased towards the Kinect. But I think Kinect is the weaker of the new motion ideas, I find the lack of a controller puzzling, it's so obviously limiting. I think Sony are just doing the clever thing and implementing a controller, coupled with the eyetoy bit they pip microsoft and allow a whole range of games to be developed instead of what appears on microsoft's part as predominantly 'party games'.

We'll see what happens though, but i think Sony's is the better of the new devices.
You may be right, but I think there is room for both, and as much as gamers talk about how 'awesome' the interfaces in SF movies are, it is strange that they don't see Kinect as one of the steps bringing us to that reality. In the end, Move is using tried and tested technology, as popularised by Nintendo, and demoed in the past with other camera tech (tracking the diameter of the glowing ball as a means to track movement in 3 dimensions) and prior accessories for motion control (PC controllers, the Tilt Pac and so on). Whereas Move will always be a game controller, I can see Kinect having wideranging impact on interface design and Human Computer Interaction for our future. Both will excell in their respective missions, here in the now.

I already made a forum thread on motion controls and most people wanted it to curl up and die.

And that means that the majority can be utterly, utterly right.

Besides, the wii already done that, it's like bringing back the joystick.

I guess that saying that Move is based on the Wiimote was pushing it, and for that I apologize. But I meant it when I said that he needs his smug ass kicked. A joke in a Sony commercial at Nintendo's expense is just being a dick. Also note that I have played my PS2 more than either my Wii or 360, and that I plan on getting a PS3 when I start a job next month. So please don't call me a fanboy.

Really? Are you really taking this commercial seriously? It's just a funny advertisement with a few sly jabs at the competition, haven't you seen Kevin Buttler's other commercials?

Lighten up, Kevin's been doing this for [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWLVJVlUE68] a [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCAJw8vbJWc] long [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkvAZ3dn-jQ] long [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH08Mslk_to] time [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgwNyb80L0s]. Have a sense of humor, dude.

The Wii uses buttons. Doesn't matter a damn if your controller has buttons or not. Software matters more.

i love how people keep saying sony ripped off nintendo's wii.
this is an industry based on taking already existing ideas and making them better!
nintendo made a console back in the old days why not complain about how sony ripped off nintendo and sega by making a console in the 1st place huh?

they took a good idea and made it better that's fact.
the wii has motion controls like it or not it can be the next big step in gaming. its hell of a lot more immersive then pushing buttons.

the design is the same because its the only design that works for motion controls a "handle".
sony took the motion controls of the wii and made them better. the wii has in-precise motion controls which is fine on the many party/family titles it has but for serious games such as shooters you need precision to make a head shot which is what the move does the combination of the camera and motion sensors make it much more precise.

now i played the wii its fun but.. most games use the motion controls as a cheap add on to gameplay like "shake the wii mote while being grabbed to get free" but never a full experience, unlike moves recent demo of sorcery a game which you use the controller as the wand itself making it immersive as it can get. that kind of game is made around the controller so it feels amazing a game you would enjoy much more then pushing buttons.

ever play a game of harry potter ever? those game are usually bad because the controls are often terrible, now think if it was made specifically on the move it would improve the game ten fold because you get immersed in it just like the movies or books do.

wow.. my 1st wall of text any way stop hating on motion controls and on sony, they do what they must because they can. (cookie for reference meh)

short version - stop hating on motions controls and sony, they improve on already made technology thats life.

I've seen his other commercials, and I hated those, too. So I'm an idiot for being annoyed by someone who is intentionally being annoying? Does not compute.

I stick by what I said about him being an idiot for basically calling the Move a sure-fire future success in a televised commercial. Even if it is a joke, that still lands him in my douchebag bin. If it turns out to be a flop, people will be rubbing what he said in his face for years.

I think I agree, tbh. I can ALMOST see that controller working. If the motion tech actually WORKS, that is.

QFT

I'm beginning to feel that the motion controllers won't just be an addon, but become the dominating controller form.
You know what else has about as many buttons as that lightbulb thing? A wiimote.

Any kind of arguement that says the move is "hardcore" just got up ended by carnavil mania.
