Sony: Nintendo Handhelds Aren't for Self-Respecting Adults

He's obviously never experienced the pure greatness of Proffesor Layton, Phoenix Wright, or the Elite Beat Agents.

And for that, I pity him.

Not to mention, when I went to the doctor's office recently, there were five OBVIOUS adults (probably 30-40). Three of them were playing pokemon.
On any plane I get onto, there are usually at least twenty people playing on some sort of handheld gaming device (usually DS).
Has he ever gotten on a subway or bus? There are loads of people playing!
Why? Because Nintendo handhelds are cheaper, work extremely well, and have a huge gaming library. I don't need a rear touch screen when I can play Radiant Historia or Infinite Space.
That said, if Nintendo keeps making remakes, I'm hoping on the NGP train. But this comment was still incredibly stupid.
I've actually seen more people embarrassed to play on a PSP then a DS.

There is no level of pure FUN greater than 3-8 people in the same room playing Mario Kart.

The closest sony ever got was when we played Battle Arena Toshinden for shots on PS1.

You can ask me, all of my mates at work (like 6 or 7 dudes) brought their own DS just to play Mario Kart with my own copy of the game and the only one who had Mario Kart, we even had a little tournament of sorts as more people kept coming to see what we were at.

Great times, I love my DS and I proudly play it at long bus trips... until I get dizzy of course, I can't play or read for longer periods of time when I'm in a car.

Let's get one thing straight, the only handheld for self-respecting adults is a smart phone. I hate the DS, and the PSP more. I've owned both and sold both a couple years after buying it. The DS's design is just stupid, you're constantly having to look at two screens to do one action. The PSP is too thin, if you play it for more than 2 hours your hands become claws, and ache like all hell.

I believe someone recently created a thread asking what do you hate/would you change about the industry?

One of my first answers: douchebag industry leaders, especially like this guy who may well not be a gamer himself or know anything about games, talking shit about other companies, other devices, other genres that they don't understand.

They talk shit about the Wii, then they emulate it. They actually improve upon it with arguably the best motion control system available (though not realizing the glowing IR ball would show up on the TV screen was a dipshit move), then fail to make any hardcore games for the peripheral or encourage any major developers to do so. Then they talk shit about the Wii again. He didn't even qualify his statement about the 3DS being a kid's toy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told yesterday that as of right now there are only 200 3DS units in the US. Within the past week, 2 friends have called me just to tell me how awesome the 3DS is. Both are in their 30s, and neither has a kid or any interest in a Sony portable.

Also, haven't we evolved past the SEGA!!! era where the companies assume we're adolescently self-conscious of what games/systems we buy and what that means regarding our cool factor/age?

I guess not, if EA and Sony have any say in the matter.

Exactly! Sony of America is run by a troll! Not that I don't think Reggie Fils-Aime is a tool, but I'd rather have a beer with him than this Tretton douchenozzle any day. Tretton would just be agreeing with everything I say the whole time, and trying to convince me that he's like me. He'd also shmooze up to people and talk shit about them as soon as they leave the table.

Good job Sony, I didn't think you could top "get a second job" in response to complaints about the PS3's release price. Sony fanboys are true masochists to love this company.

This statement they made also sounds like the dying words of a war already lost, which also doesn't give much confidence to those who actually believe the NGP has a chance.

I mean, I never saw any game company as particularly classy (except Valve), but that's really low, especially when your own handheld has so few great games that I could count them on two hands.

I question how the NGP will somehow magically be "for adults" simply because of its improved internal components. Sony can bash Nintendo all it wants, but it shouldn't bash millions of gamers, and its audience, at the same time.

My handheld: Been nintendo since I was 7
My computer software: Been Microsoft since I was 10

I contribute a lot to all the companies and I got big brand loyalty to the three of them all for different things. Sony shouldn't open its mouth to wide with those comments, those 20 something gamers grew up with gameboys from classic, to color, to advance, to sp, to ds, to 3ds. Maybe one of them decided they wanted to change their usual and buy sony, I'm gonna say they are less inclined to now. Brand loyalty does mean something.

Sony, still pissing in every body's collective cheerios.
