I think I find the flagrantly xenophobic language being used by SOPA and PIPA supporters even more disturbing than the proposed censorship. I guess everyone warmed up by yelling about Mexicans stealing our jobs and now we're ready to jump back into full-blown nativism.

"The theft of America's intellectual property costs the U.S. economy more than $100 billion annually and results in the loss of thousands of American jobs. Congress cannot stand by and do nothing while American innovators and job creators are under attack."
What about all of the other businesses that outsource their jobs to foreign countries because it so damn cheap to do so? Why not spend your time creating a bill that will tax the shit out of these corporations and give them tax breaks for creating jobs here if you are so goddamn concerned about the job market?
OH WAIT, I FORGOT
these corporations own your twisted rotting fucking souls.
I wish we could agree that this country is run by evil, not vote and demand to start over from scratch.

But how can the Mexicans steal our jobs if these "foreign thieves" are robbing our economy of the means to create them in the first place?
Oh god, this is the paradox that Doc Brown always warned us about!!

OT: Good, now maybe we can solve the real problems. Like firing Congress. All of it...from a cannon...into the Sun...

Every time I see "foreign thieves" I want to punch my screen. Don't ever come back, SOPA. Burn in the hottest pits of hell, along with the intolerant, dithering old Lamar Smith.

"Okay, let's see if we can't go back and draft a law that might actually achieve some of the intended goals without stomping all over due process and crippling the internet." Words I'd hope, but sincerely doubt, are being spoken somewhere in the halls of congress.

Hum, that raises another question, how powerful is Wikipedia? If they decide to support a bill and threaten shutting down could they theoretically pass anything?

So if there is so much out cry against it, why not scrap it and start anew if you are that concerned about what people think?
This just seems like a move the british government has pulled before, claim the bill will be put on hold then sneak it throguh while no ones looking, if thats possible with the american system that is.
Besides, there was no way america could basically police the internet, oh sorry i mean american businesses could police the internet, i doubt most countries would be willing to let america mess around with the parts of the internet based outside america, let alone leave america in charge of the lot.
Oh and just out of interest, the american government, haven't you got that big global recession to fix that it seems your country caused, not try and burn cash trying to control the internet?

Which are these highly-theoretical "thousands of jobs" that suddenly vanish because of piracy alone (because nothing else make people lose their jobs).?

Wasn't it just postponed indefinitely a couple days ago, then brought back?

Call me skeptical, but...
No. It was 'shelved', then they said they were going to relook it in February.

But then the Blackout happened. It worked.

I reckon they're only doing it because Obama said he wasn't going to support SOPA. Their plan must be to postpone it until the next election, then if Obama gets voted out he won't be able to veto it. It's far from dead.

There needs to be a voting off process done once every six months for Congress - but not only will a member be fired, they will be forced to work a demeaning job to finish out their term.
America would totally get behind this - it would be like American Idol but only it won't be a complete waste of fucking time.

I'd like to know how much this guy gets paid a year, $100k a year or more? Fuck off you patriotic piece of shit. 'Support this bill to support the country you love' what a fucking cheap way of earning your buck, and A lot of Americans actually buy into this crap.

It wasn't exactly a "Day of Rage," although there was no shortage of pissed-off stupid at @herpderpedia [https://twitter.com/#!/herpderpediaa], but the "No Wiki Wednesday" [or whatever you'd like to call it] was nevertheless noticed by the Powers That Be.
Link to Wiki's twitter is broken, got an extra a in there. :u

During this whole SOPA/PIPA thing, there was one question that has been sort of bugging me.
What was Virgin/Richard Branson's position on this whole issue?
As a huge business figure, he must have had an opinion on this, and could have easily thrown the argument in a whole different direction if he had spoken out about this.

Since his company is not listed as a SOPA supporter, and him being quite an intelligent guy, my guess would be that he was against it.

But I guess he may have remained silent due to business deals with companies that do support it.

But I think with him being such a huge business icon, if he would have joined our side, the fight would have been won much sooner and much more definite.
But I guess this is all just speculation.
Just my thoughts.
